Fakes on here? If that's a serious question you'll be getting a lot of sarcastic responses. Yes there are fakes here and all over the web, you need to get used to it. Delete, block, ignore.

Yeah, those people are getting quite creative in how they post their profiles. But, I am noticing many similarities. I'm just a concerned member. I like the feel of this site and would like to see it flourish as a haven for the kink-friendly. I'd just hate to see the few spoil it for the many.

Thanks DarkSteven.

Maybe I've should have said any "constructive responses" would be appreciated. Hey, c'mon, I'm serious here folks. So, this has never happened to anybody else?

yes it has happened to everyone else here, you aren't special in this regard.  this is why the jokes are being made.  deal with it or get offline.  what you are suggesting is prohibiting free speech, even if it is dishonest and annoying.  scary.

The board typically goes sarcastic when a dom who seldom posts,  complains- the key word being "fake" "liar".

Seeing the OP pic is prompt for more comical.  This pic is a good looking man who could easily date woman in real life....yet to hang here- knowing what the odds are to meet someone compatable AND nearby.

Anyhow- casual banter has  some good conversation... and THAT part IS hard to find in real life.

I read your journal Mitch...shutting down this profile and opening another wont help you to avoid the scammers.  As others have said block and delete are your friends here. CM is a free site and the mods don't get paid so I doubt they would look at introducing any kind of mandatory check of profiles to reduce scammers unless this became a pay site.

And yes, pretty much everyone gets contacted by scammers.

Every so often I string one of the scammers out. I'll chat with them when on meesenger if they contact me. 10 - 15 minutes while I'm doing other thing online and maybe 2-3 times a week. I had one that I started with way back in... I can't even remeber it has been so long. I figure I'm saving some other gullible soul their life savings by taking up the scammers time. It can actually become somewhat comical and entertaining. I'm not nearly as devoted to this as another online. When I looked at his website I absolutely howled. Personally I don't have the interest, time or energy to go as far as he does. His web address is:

www.ebolamonkeyman.com

Check it out for a good laugh.

Mitch,
I have to say I disagree with the whole 'Fake is an off limits word', in this kind of case. I think it is wrong to call someone fake because they are different than me - because they have a different kink - or because we tried to have a relationship and it didn't work out.
However, using the word fake to describe someone who tells emerical lies in order to get something specific from me other than interaction - money, or a check for having me join a site, or whatever - yes, that would be a fake.

All of us get them. ignore them or block and delete, as you chose. I almost never bother with block and delete, since they generally go away when ignored, and the next time it will be a different person, so why bother - but that is up to you.

We have all been taken, from time to time. Master has talked to a few who got him actually beliveing them, for a while. Usually they out themselves in such fantasticly obvious ways, even if they were doing fantastic at it for a while. Like the one who said she was born in the US, in the same small town she lived in, had never moved from there. I don't remeber the name of the small town, except that, when we googled it, it was not a small town at all. it was a township sitting smack dab in the middle of Queens, NY. Now, I have friends from NYC - they are never from some small township. They are very bouroughcentric - they are either 'from NYC', or from their bourough. So, He asked her 'So, you are near Queens?' and she said, 'What is a Queen?'

Another common one is that some out of country scammers will check 'Native American' as their race, by which they mean that they want to claim to be native born to the US, not relizing that it has a more specific meaning here. I asked one, 'Your profile says you and your wife are both Native American? Are you from the same Tribe? What Nation?' He said 'Nation is United States of America' - it went downhill from there.

You will get gotten sometimes - but sometimes you will get gotten by the salesman at the Circut City, the begger on the corner, or the girlscout knocking on your door to sell cubscout scout a rama tickets. We all get taken sometimes - it is not an internet phenomina, nor one that the world can protect you from. Sorry, old chum.

I'll tell you what, you stop sending messages asking if I am available for breeding, or formulated letters that have not had anything to do with my profile requesting me to relocate into a cage some 1,2,3 states away, or stating that you live in Turkey and I will stop sending messages from Nigeria.***********

One tip, mitch, since I like Latino men.....don't think of us as "subbies" and don't chase down profiles with photos of hot, young, impossibly gorgeous women.  Those photos are usually "bait" from the scammers.  (Except for faerie, she's ok.....but she also prefers women.....)

Ok, that was 2 tips.

Anyway, try to stick with more average-looking photos & profiles.  A good rule of thumb in this world and on these types of sites is, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

We live in a world where you have to watch everyhing, even the phone company. They scammed me once now I have no longdistance (but I do have a magic jack phone which takes care of that. The point is, the whole of society is coming to value the appearance of trustability rather than trustability itself.

Sorry to get to philosophical on your ass, but the thing is, if it happens everywhere it happens here. (I think I have reached a new milestone here, gettung philosophical talking about the phone company). The same caveats apply.

As tsatske pointed out, there are ways to find out if someone is fake. First of, those who are real will want to correspond a bit, and talk about a few other things than the bedroom or playroom.

In your profile, you state your desires and I find it a bit shallow. It concentrates on blind devotion and physical attributes. While that is fine and good, you don't spend 24/7 in the playroom. There are other aspects to real life and they are a concern. You have to agree on a few other things than kink, at least share some commonality in choice of recreation, how things should be done, etc.

These are the things that can tell you if someone is real. For example, what do they do for a living, try to get some detail. Assuming they don't say "scammer" proceed to find out something about their profession.

How about something like this, early enough to be seen in your profile statement : "You will come to me at your own expense, I don't want an incompetent sub. If I send thee home I will pay for that ticket". That statement needs a little work, I just came up with it on the fly, but it does sound Domly enough.

There are other things, first of all their location. After sufficient correspondence, they are compelling enough for you to send them a bus ticket to get to you, they will have an address. Forget it if it is a PO box, and there are ways to find out if the address is what they say it is. Then ask them for driving instrustions. See what you get.

It says do not send money to other users for any reason, but they can't stop you. Just remember that it is your money. Might just be a good idea to get money out of the picture from the gitgo.

My two cents, all I am worth today I guess.

T

None of my 26 profiles have ever been asked to rescue a Nigerian from anywhere. I think the whole Nigerian scam thing is a myth proposed by the many that have read the common scams section on the other side.

Hello MsGreedyTop
I did but I thought we agreed I couldn't rescue you from Nigeria because the thought of you trapped in Nigeria was too much of a turn on for me.

Have you seen the colour scheme they use in Nigeria I'll be staring at the colourful walls, going crossed eyed to try and make the stereogram pop out at me.
