In a CBS/NYT poll of women voters, a surprising result was found: It seems that Sarah Palin's addition to the McCain ticket has actually become a detriment to his numbers with "likely women voters." Over the last few days, since Palin has been giving interviews, and the populace has had a chance to gain some information on the Governor of Alaska, there has been a 21 point shift.... away from McCain... and toward Obama by that demographic. Before the conventions, McCain was actually ahead of Obama in appeal to female voters.... now he lags behind by several points.

It seems that, although they had a good bounce immediately after the election, that "bright, shiny distraction" is losing it's lustre... and Sarah is actually dragging McCain down.

Bipo, this roller-coaster can't be good for your blood pressure.  The polls are...drum roll please... right back where we were before the conventions.  Slight edge to the Dems, who should be out front by 17+.

I understand the addiction.  Try to follow the weekly and graph results, maybe?

bipolarbear,

Remember how many times Senator Clinton has been slammed on these Forums as being too polarizing? Or the bashing that Mrs. Obama has taken from several people?  Now the same polarization is obvious with the current GOP VP nominee.

Senator McCain could have made a more moderate and safer choice in a Republican woman with Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

From a Conservative Web-site -

"Sen. Hutchison has proven she can handle this challenge. In 2000, she captured the most votes in Texas history, tallying more than 4 million ballots. Hutchison knows how to win even when the Democrats are surging. After all, she was the first-ever Republican woman elected to the state legislature and the first female elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas. If Hillary Clinton’s bid fails, Hutchison will be ideally positioned to gain votes from voters wanting symbolic gains for women.

As a bonus, Hutchison would burnish John McCain’s conservative credentials in Texas and elsewhere. The American Conservative Union confers a lifetime rating of 90.4 percent on the Dallas senator, higher than a conservative stalwart like Mitch McConnell (89.7 percent) or McCain himself (82.3 percent). The National Rifle Association awards Hutchison its highest rating. The pro-business U.S. Chamber of Commerce assigns the Texan a rating of 92 percent. And Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform gives her a 95 percent rating. In the school of conservative politics, Kay Bailey Hutchison is the super-smart girl who sits in the first row, an all-A’s student whom John McCain should want in his study group."

But Palin spurred the Christian base.  McCain had to lock them down.  Hutchison is old.  She's also from Texas, and keeping the Bush stank off the ticket is critical.

I want to see where we are in a week-10 days, and what the next move from McCain is.  He still has a lot to work with in his pick.

You think that just being from Texas would bring about comparisons to Bush? That is a different take on the matter.

Too easy and cheap a shot to pass up, Ven.  It would stick, too.  What percentage of the time has she voted with the President?

Breaking news on the economy and banks is going to set the McCain campaign up to put a spotlight on Palin's very admirable fight agianst corruption in the Alaskan oil and gas industry.  People went to prison, and Johnny has only teased us with that story so far.

The point is, (and I do have one) that this "sudden swing of Hillary voters" toward Palin (or anything female) is pretty much just republican fart gas.

        Hutchison is old.

Why is that a bad thing  again? Is it that she's not photogenic enough, or is it because she's more likely to cark it? I thought old people were great, because of all the accumulated experience?

And where has alot of that "gas" come from?  The pundits on the idiot box in everyone's living room in America.

I don't buy it for a second.  It was to shore up the voting from the FAR right.

We are talking about the latest CBS-NY Times poll, right? http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/Sep08b-Elec.pdf page 3 for the breakdown on gender.

The one that shows a 12 point gain in support for Obama amongst women?  He is now at 54% compared to 42% Sep 8.

Or did I miss somethin?
