If you could be any character in a book what character would you be?

I always when I was little pretended that I was Anne of Green Gables. I enjoyed the series of books and loved the movies even more. She is a fiery redhead with a temper who often speaks before she thinks. (Much like me) she is a nerd (much like me ) head buried in books and good at school.

The protagonist from Duras’ The Lover.  I was a very precocious child.  *pulls out shelf worn copy*:    “So he doesn’t do anything either, doesn’t undress her, says he loves her madly, says it very softly.  Then is silent.  She doesn’t answer. She could say she doesn’t love him.  She says nothing.  Suddenly, all at once, she knows, knows that he doesn’t understand her, that he never will, that he lack the power to understand such perverseness. And that he can never move fast enough to catch her.”

Seriously, this book/ movie (unrated! screw you Blockbuster!) was a major watershead for me for me...much like when my boy first read Venus in Furs and realized, much to his discomfort, how much he had in common with the main character.  That was actually a GREAT training tool as a result.  It is always an interesting moment when, in the midst of read some book you realize, too late, that you have been reading your own mind’s thoughts.     Another snipet: “..she became a spectator…”  And thus was the perfect description of the majority of my own coming of age.

You couldn't be more right about seeing yourself in a book. I don't think I've ever found a whole entire book where the character is me, but there have been plenty of times I'm reading along and my breath catches because some part of a character is very close to a part of me.

Now I have to go find that book. I don't know if the local library would have it. If not I'll just order it

Hmmm... It is hard to choose only one.  I suppose I would have loved to have lived the life of Chingachgook, being that in touch with nature, being responsible for raising a man of Hawkeye's stature.  The end sucked but it would be worth the trip.

this disturbs me a bit, but i'd love to be "Frannie" from the book "The Stand" by Stephen King.  i wouldn't want to go through losing all family and friends in a world wide, deadly epidemic.... but i'd LOVE to have the passionate relationship she had with Stu Redman.  wow, that is a romance/slighty kinky relationship that goes down in history in my eyes.

Scarlett O'Hara. Gotta respect everything that character went through and accomplished and her strength to be a total bitch and do what had to be done. Of course I would have let Rhett sweep me off of my feet after the whole staircase scene instead of blowing the moment, but that's just me.

I want to be Buttercup from the Princess Bride (William Goldman's 1973 novel).  Her Wesley was skilled in sword fighting  (yay for edge play)  he kicked ass in the fire swamp (woo hoo fire play) and had an incredible intellect (good for a mind fuck).  It also helped that his friends had cool accents  Mand Patinkin (Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you keeled my father, prepare to die)  and Andre the Giant (Fezzik).

I think I need to watch the DVD tonight.
