I normally cut my own because no one seems to know what to do with long and curly hair, but I decided I wanted to do some layers because my hair was getting too heavy.  It was down to my hips so I figured I was going to get raped.  I didn't even ask how much it would be.  Let me enjoy the moment until that moment.  The woman kept saying your hair is so long... I can't believe how long your hair is and I figured I was really going to get it!  So when she was done giving me a great cut and not chopping it all off, I asked how much.  I had to ask three times because I could not believe what I was hearing.  $14.  I gave her a twenty and walked out a happy layered red head with most my length in tact.  Now that is rare!

I spend about 30.00 for a cut but toss in a 20.00 tip because my hair is just plain weird.

oh, if we're talking more than just a cut....it's about 300 for my hair for cut, color and style.  the color is just too much so i do that part on my own.

I wasn't going to post until I saw this.
I pay about the same.[&:]

I readjusted the typos.  I was having a very bad day yesterday.  Interesting poll.  One person in the chat room spent $450 on their hair.  Must not be affected by the economy.

i get my hair done at a beauty college near me.  all work is done by graduating students under a teacher's supervision.  for a wash, deep condition, relaxer, trim, wrap and style, i pay under $40.  i take my daughters to the same place to get their hair done and for them it's under $25 (just a shampoo, deep condition, trim and style).

anyone else notice the options should be the other way around...
30 to 60
30 to 100
(should be 60 to 100)
100 to 150
150 to 200

makes more sense yes??

Just nitpicking your nitpicking.

i used to pay $60 for a color (my hair is totally grey and i can't stand looking at an old woman in the mirror) and cut every 4 weeks ... before i retired.

Then i let it go longer between times - 2 months - but still paid $60.

This week i only got it cut ($14 plus tip) and bought the Revlon on sale at $2.29 at the grocery store and did it myself.  i missed the roots behind my right ear, but they are covered up by the rest of the brown hair.  It turned out to be a little darker than i like but it will soften up a little with washing.  BTW - SHH likes it.

*hangs her head in shame*  To be honest....it was a different time and a different economy.

I go a a wonderful salon that gives you the most important perk....head/neck massage during shampooing [:D].....for about $45.00 plus a $10.00 tip.

~ fast reply ~

I was in a conversation with someone a long time ago and she remarked that a woman will spend $200 on an awesome outfit or a pair of shoes that she will only wear a few times, or every few months...but she won't spend that kind of money on her hair, which she wears every day.  I thought it was an interesting observation.  At the time, I had more disposable income so I went to a highly recommended salon.  I was amazed at the difference in my hair, so I kept going back.  When I have more income to spare I'll go back.  Until then, it's back to the old ways for me, although I still have a bunch of their hair products that I use when going out.

sunshinemiss -> RE: How much do you spend getting your hair done? (9/23/2008 8:40:28 AM)

jesus... I spend about $7 dollars.  Ok in the USA I spend $12... but now I do the whole coloring thing... That costs about $15 every two months... so let's see

in one year...

$12 x 6 equals $72  for coloring
$15 x 6 equals $90 for the cut
and the occasional 'I can't stand it anymore cut' in So. Amer... runs me about $1 - 8 maybe two times a year, so
$2 - 16
that adds up to a whopping um.... *counts on my fingers..
$9 plus 7 plus 2 equals $18 a year.  yep.  Had to use my toes for that one.  whew.  Thank goodness for those extra little toes on each of my feet.

My hair is something we're particularly fussy about. I've been seeing the same guy for years and it usually runs me about 100-120 a pop. Which is why I only get it done about four times a year and I'm going back to my natural color to cut it out completely for awhile. But when I go back, it'll be to the same wonderful guy.

SnakeWithScales -> RE: How much do you spend getting your hair done? (9/23/2008 10:01:50 AM)

I never know what to do with my hair at a salon. I usually just end up getting the split-ends trimmed and the part moved around. I rarely do that anymore. Under $30, since I doubt my trim every year or so and shampoo add up to more than that.

I make up for it with effort, though. My hair is a huge mass of very slim individual strands, and curly/wavy/twisty. So, if I don't take care of it every day it turns to matts and nests. And, ever so often, I do that gross olive oil treatment for a night to keep it moisturized. Then it behaves for about a week. lol. But its a nice color, so people get distracted by that. In other words, my hair is cheap, but crazy.

mmmm.............  I wonder what a budget would do to how much a woman spends??

I just know the longer the length, the more it costs.[sm=preen.gif]
