Sanity -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 7:04:51 PM)

Obama is on record saying this is the worst crisis since the great depression, but a debate is more important than getting to work on hammering out a good bipartisan solution to the problem?

What's wrong with that picture.

Sanity -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 7:07:21 PM)

Maybe since Obama's never sponsored or cosigned any significant legislation ever, he doesn't see a need to start now.

yeah?  so does that mean because we have phones no one has to show up at work?

Meanwhile, Moose can't think of anything significant Squirrely has done in his 26 year "career" as a pig at the trough.

Nothing wrong at all.

Mr. Obama can walk and chew gum at the same time.

This is the most desperate stunt I`ve ever seen.

He`s on the ropes and wants a breather.

But trying to make it look like he`s concerned, makes McCain look calculating and exploitative.

What would McCain do if we were attacked? He can`t tell the terrorists to suspend or the Russians to wait.

Rep. Barney Frank said they don`t need McCain or Obama, that they`ve got something worked out and that the "crisis" may be over by Friday night.

McCain said he`s not going to Mississippi but the debate will go on without him.

Obama is going.

I hope McCain doesn`t show.Seeing Mr Obama standing there next to an empty podium would be hilarious and poignant.

My guess,McCain will blink and solidify his new wimp image.

candystripper -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 7:59:59 PM)

Well, here in Ohio, McCain is running attacks ads, claiming he sponsored regulatory legislation (which if he did, was obviously flawed) and that Obama cannot wrap his head around a bail out solution.  So much for suspending the campaign.

By the way, I'm tired of that same profile shot "I'm John McCain and I approved this message'.  Does the man have only one photo?

Say... Isn't McCain the same guy who missed 412 of 643 votes taken this year, more than any other Senator?  Odd that now he wants to go to work...

Of course, only a cynic would notice that this would 1. make him look like he cares, even as he continues to push deregulation schemes and 2. postpone the VP debate, allowing Palin's total ignorance a little quieter.

No. McCain is doing this for the good of the common man.

Nobody suggested postponing the VP debates...[8|]

Yes.  They have.

"Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC), speaking on behalf of Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign, suggested in an interview Wednesday with CNN to postpone Friday’s presidential debate until Oct. 2 and hold it at Washington University in St. Louis instead of the vice presidential debate."

You assumed that you were well informed, I guess, when you made that little eye-rolling emoticon.

Thadius:

You know McCain is trying to make himself look good at the burden of this crisis.
It is all crazy.
I always knew in my lifetime I would see something like this happen.  We are watching history in the making.
I never thought I would be a part of the sinking ship.
I am on Obama's mailing list.  He tried to get me to sign some kind of petetion online where I backed his plan.
I could not in good faith do it.
I am sick of all it, but feel the debates should go on.
I will say that President Bush looks quite pale and thin these days.

Where does it say the vice presidential debates are being postponed or even asked to be postponed?

I guess reading comprehension is not your strong suit, eh?
I guess you thought you were being intelligent when you tried the gotcha game.  You are the one that made an incorrect assumption, sorry.

Try again.  The campaign has not asked for the VP debate to be moved or postponed, that was an early report made by a reporter, and not accurate.

Just like the political points they tried to score when they postponed the start of their convention?

kittinSol -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 8:25:23 PM)

I love this! McCain blew it stratospherically there: Friday's debate is still going on, but now he looks like a moron for having suggested it be postponed in the first place. YES!

OK.  I'm stopping here because I'm a grown-up.  But that was filed 3 hours ago.  It has quotes from McCain's campaign.  I'm not sure what other proof you need.  It's an ancillary point, anyway.  But, yes.  The plan was simple:  Postpone the presidential debate until Oct. 2nd and postpone the vice-presidential debate until sometime later.  If ever.

No wonder you supported Bush.  Neither of you can admit when you are wrong, even in the face of obvious evidence.

But since we can't seem to be polite to each other, I'm done talking to you.  You can have your opinions, but you can't have your own facts.

Here's the entire article -

"
Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC), speaking on behalf of Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign, suggested in an interview Wednesday with CNN to postpone Friday’s presidential debate until Oct. 2 and hold it at Washington University in St. Louis instead of the vice presidential debate.
McCain suspended his campaign Wednesday until Congress approves a $700 billion bailout of the financial market.
Graham said the vice presidential debate could take place in Oxford, Miss. at a later date to be determined.
Sen. Barack Obama's campaign has said that it would like the debates to continue as scheduled."

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/24/mccain-camp-to-propose-postponing-vp-debate/

Edited to add another link, this one from CNN, to once again show that McCain is trying to move this to the night of the VP debate and to "postpone" the VP debate.  A cursory search of the internets would show this, of course.

Sanity -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 8:33:10 PM)

I see it just the opposite. All the talking heads including Obama keep saying that this is a very grave financial crisis, maybe the worst imaginable... yet, Obama can't be bothered to take time out of his busy campaign schedule in order to address it.

Thadius -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 8:33:57 PM)

Please point out a QUOTE from anybody in the McCain campaign, much less a QUOTE from Sen. Graham.  I do not see a single quote in the entire article.

Ask anybody around here, they will tell you when I am wrong I freely admit it.

Where have I ever suggested that I support Bush?  Now you are making shit up.

I guess CNN isn't a good enough source in this case.  I have a feeling I could post a video and it wouldn't matter.

And I'm not sure I appreciate being called unintelligent.  I see that certain posters have their posts approved by the moderators before being seen.  Perhaps this should be more widely done...

Thadius -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 8:49:30 PM)

Still no quote from anybody in either of those links.

I have been watching this all day, waiting to see what was going to come of it.  Still no reliable sources. Oh and the folks that are running the debates haven't received any word suggesting or asking for any changes from the campaign.

The details about what McCain is seeking, which were provided by a McCain aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity, came a few hours after the Republican presidential candidate announced that he was suspending campaigning so he could return to Washington, D.C., to try to forge a consensus on a financial bailout package.

If this is the position held by the campaign why would it be only spoken about on the condition of anonymity?

The debates will go on as scheduled.

Well, McCain is no spring chicken.
He may need a break every 6 months as he gets older, than
President Palin can step in.
I think McCain needs to take a break for the next 40 days!

Sanity -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 9:13:16 PM)

It seems like Obama's the guy who usually "blinks" or flip-flops, comes around to John McCain's point of view.

We've seen it with the offshore drilling issue, the surge, pulling troops from Iraq immediately, higher taxes... not to mention the Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Tomorrow he'll probably be proudly wearing his American flag lapel pin and acting like it was his idea to cancel the debate "...for the good of the American people."

From andrewsullivan.com, who says it better than I could:

"
One of the rhetorical devices the GOP-prepped candidates (like Bush & McCain) like to use is talking about "blinking". They often say how a leader cannot blink in the face of a crisis, how they will not blink when confronting islamic terrorism, how we must not blink in the face of monumental challenges. Well, now McCain and his entire campaign is blinking - blinking at the press, blinking at debates, blinking at the financial crisis. And it seems to me that on 9/11/01, President Bush did nothing but blink for seven minutes. After which he massively overreacted in one of the most memorable and devastating acts of cover-my-ass in American history, causing orders of magnitude more damage to America than Bin Laden could have dreamed of. That should show everyone what these people are: bullshit artists who cower at the prospect of accountability and responsibility."

DomDolf -> RE: McCain suspends campaign temporarily... (9/24/2008 9:17:12 PM)

Quick reply- The really great thing about these CM debates is you get to see who is closed-minded, who is brain washed, who lives in a fantasy land and who is totally off their rocker. I wish it was this easy to spot all these types in the real world.
