OK.

Let's hear your solutions, guys.

I'm reading nothing but unsupported rants about why everything sucks.

What should we do? Why should we do it? How do we know it will work?

Convince us morons.

hahahaha...what no solution?

I've posted it several times. No point in repeating them only to hear ya'll throw up new tagents.

Rex, go over in the corner by your dish and lay down.   I offered a solution and it sits without comment or countervailing view.

I was going to say something, but I think it belongs on a new thread.

I agree with 6 and Mm that the situation has been explained by more than a few and solutions, ideas and amendments to the Paulson plan have been offered in a number of threads here and certainly well covered by various media over this past week. I suspect that it is a minority of posters who read threads in their entirety. In fact, that's been demonstrated over time. I once started a thread asking how many posters read threads in their entirety before making their own comments and found that a majority admitted to reading only the OP and/or skimming a few posts. No big surprise, eh ? Imo, just another instance of folks not taking the time and making the effort to inform themselves before forming and sharing their own opinions.

Rasmussen poll shows that only 30% of Americans think the government should step in and bailout the banking sector. 63% said they are worried the government is going to do too much.

50% said they feel it is better to let the companies go bankrupt.

If you read history, it seems to me that George Washington and the "boys" probably had an approval rating for their little revolution about equal to George Bush.  Most of the population were not rich landowners or wealthy merchants, and paupers were not part of the drafting of the Constitution.  Most people were either ok with being British subjects or had "no opinion" and were just "present".

Other than after a horrible event that unifies a nation, most are just involved with the daily struggle to pay bills, fix the kids teeth, and take out the garbage at night.

Forget the polls.  In my opinion, we should all try to protect whatever financial assets we do have from todays insanity.  Hey...but that's everyone's personal  issue....everyone's  personal decision.

cjan -> RE: Poll: Only 30% of Americans support a bailout (9/27/2008 4:32:15 AM)

cory, I'm just curious. In your "daily struggle", how many hours of "entertainmment" tv do you watch a day ?

Sanity -> RE: Poll: Only 30% of Americans support a bailout (9/27/2008 5:45:22 AM)

Imagine the hell that life would be if we were governed by daily tracking polls. To begin with, we would have little need for juries...

corysub -> RE: Poll: Only 30% of Americans support a bailout (9/27/2008 6:11:54 AM)

Now that is an interesting question?  Are you trying to determine if we are a match?  Sorry, I thought this was a political chat page, not match.com!   Not that it's really any of your business, but I watch Morning Joe, flip to CNBC, and CNN..and than start a 14 hour day running two businesses.  I live well on five or six hours sleep, wear casual clothes most of the time, love enjoy music from opera to country, hate urban crap, and always floss.

How about you?  Are we a match?

You nailed it!  We ARE being governed by weasel, thieving, corrupt, power seeking political machines and their cohorts who follow the the polls and not what might be in the best interests of the country.  Men and women with "principles" are rare in the hallowed halls of Congress.  We are forced to accept people who photograph well, who are wordsmiths and charismatic, and have been able to hide their sins from public view. And life IS hell these days.

Lorr47 -> RE: Poll: Only 30% of Americans support a bailout (9/27/2008 6:47:28 AM)

I have not seen any support for a bailout where I live.  However, if we have to do something the Buffet -Zuckerman idea finds some support.  Apparently Buffet loaned Goldman a substantial amount of money but insisted on a new type of preferred stock in return.  If Goldman screws up. Buffet can convert the preferred stock to common stock and go after their souls.  Neither Buffet or Zuckerman (net worth North of $ 3 billion in cash and metals who has been forcasting this for about 2 to 3 years) will buy the trash (Why are our leaders (sic) desireous of purchasing the trash above the market value?  Zuckerman believes the politicians want the public to hold more than just the bag for the trash.)  Under Buffet-Zuckerman's plan, the lenders have ownership commensurate with the loans and can convert the stock to control; punish the thieves;  and take over the entire company should the management mess up again.  The worth of the entire company protects the lenders.  However, I still agree with what I perceive as Greenspan's opinion.  "Let them fall.  The physical economy will survive.  Do not sell out our future to protect thieves."

i do not trust Greenspan either!  i do not believe any of the assholes know what they are doing!  they created this damn mess!  every single one of them assholes!  they are forcing this down our throats!

So you hate Greenspan too, who's against the bailout, leaving you both for and against the bailout.

No wonder you like McCain. When he went to Washington and was asked what he supported, he had no answer.

bestbabync -> RE: Poll: Only 30% of Americans support a bailout (9/28/2008 8:59:08 AM)

Mus
i am a voter that has just come to the realization, a little sooner than others, that we should fire them all and start over.  eventually i will not be alone!  maybe not in our lifetime, but the democrat/republican parties will be third parties, NOT the majority.  why?  because both parties have high profile representatives that are totally responsible for this mess.  if you read the article i posted above you will understand partly why i feel this way.  the solution they have found is full of if's and should's.  i do not know about you, but i do not want them gambling with my children's and their children's future.

Musicmystery -> RE: Poll: Only 30% of Americans support a bailout (9/28/2008 9:18:14 AM)

I'm all for developing viable third parties. But they have to be realistic---many of them are single issue initiatives that frankly would do better as PACs.

In the 70s, Dems and Pubs got together to discuss what it would take to pass legislation and achieve reasonable common ground. That all stopped in the 80s, exacerbated in the 90s, and pushed to extremes in the 21st century. Everyone loses. Lines are entrenched.

But fire them all and start over is clearly not practical--no more useful than bomb them all as a universal foreign policy.

Replace them with whom? Get involved in a campaign and sell your candidate(s).

Everything else is whining---and the world is just more complicated than that.

Your statement appears to be in direct conflict with a Mr. Phil Gramm,  Tim.

This is where it starts to get out of round.

guess what, both presidential candidates are for the bail out.  i do not support it.  i truly believe this is just postponing the pain.  "if the bail out works, we should break even or maybe make a little money on the deal."
i hate the way that sounds!
i am not whining, i just refuse to swallow the lies anymore.

Musicmystery -> RE: Poll: Only 30% of Americans support a bailout (9/28/2008 9:23:49 AM)

Well, understandably he'd believe the world is flat...

lol
