My first mistake (other than deciding to do it at all), was knowing that one of the skins was not going to fit the pattern I sketched out, but thinking I could make it work anyway.

Good thing the store with the bunnies is not open today, or I'd seriously be thinking about going to get two more skins and trying again with a different pattern.  OH MY GOD, IT'S NEXT TIME!  SHOOOOOT MEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

This thread is kind of like me saying i started quilting to use up old clothes and save money. ( this after i bought $60 of quilting fabric yesterday - saving $25 because i had previously bought $250 at that particular store).    Yep - me saved me some big biccies with my quilting *cough cough* say no more say no more!!

just buy the bunny mitten.... until your finished with the project, taking into account the time you need to go purchase the materials, cut out the patterns, assemble it, and the clean up, it's less expensive in the long run, INCLUDING any shipping charges.

a mit is super easy hun.. try a thumbless one.. take the skin, fold it in half width wise... stick your hand in there.. see how and where you need to cut it. add an extra 1/2 for the stiching.

Cut it out in a rounded hand mit shape. keeping the folded edge folded and uncut. Flip it so that it is inside out.. grab some waxed sinew.. and blanket stich it around the outline of the hand. You can finish it by folding the cuff up or inward.. and blind stiching that. And Voila!

It takes hardly any time.. and once you get the stiches down it goes quite fast.. just keep the stiches even, and about 1 cm from each other. when you fold it wrong side out.. be sure to brush the fur with your fingers away from the edge.. it will help with the stiches.

Gwyn, I was going for one with a thumb, kind of like an oven-mitt.  The skins weren't wide enough to fold over so that the hair all went up toward the fingers (the way I read it should go).  If no one shoots me  [sm=blasted.gif]  and I decide to give it another go, I'm going the thumbless route.

I told him about the little project today, and we had a good laugh about it.  He was with me when we looked at them and I said, "pfffttt!!!  I can make that cheaper!"  Yeah, it's hard to talk sometimes with your foot in your mouth.

Well, it's not for me, and, I mean I know our relationship is new and all, but somehow, I just don't think Kirk would take kindly to the suggestion that he just stick his hand up a rabbit's ass.  Well, actually, I think he would laugh, ALOT, but hand-up-rabbits-ass is just a kink that I'm pretty sure is not on his "lives for" list.
