slvemike, you are most likely correct. Personally I prefer having them be fucked right along with the rest of us, as opposed to our being fucked and they surviving and thriving.

If this is truly a free market (which its actually a controlled market, not a free market), then by definition, we have to let those banks who made foolish decisions fail.  There is no other way to allow a smarter company to come in and do the right thing.  Let their greed be their demise.  Find these people, interrupt them at the Country Club, and hold them accountable.  In front of their families.  In front of their peers.  Armies around the world understand that there is nothing morally wrong with neutralizing a taxpayer for the benefit of the nation.  What they're engaging in on Wall Street, is financial warfare, and those responsible for decision making there, should be tried for war crimes against taxpayers.  Obviously the politicians are torn between bowing to the corporate bosses, versus doing what's right for the taxpayers of the nation.  Don't expect those in Washington to do the right thing, its up to us, just like it always has been throughout history.

try reworking ur math

700,000,000,000.00 divided by 200,000,000 us legal citizens = 3500.00 dollars

which is a little but not much but if u want to reduce the number of people it should be legal and working above 18

yes i know there are those under 18 who work

As scary as it all is, we cannot continue to bailout these corporate thieves.
We are going to have to grit our teeth, and get back to basics.  That is the only way the economy will recover.
I may vote yet.

I don't have a calculator that works in those numbers but I believe your math is incorrect....

That is assuming the inverse of this "The cost of a $700 billion bailout would be $2,295 estimated cost per American (based on an estimate of 305 million Americans), or $4,635 per working American (based on an estimate of 151 million in the work force)."[

If they took $700 Billion and divided it between all US legal citizens, from infants to elderly, we would each receive $2.5 million dollars, which would be plenty to pay off our mortgages.

I think you may have missed a decimal point.  We have a bit over 300 million residents.  88 percent of those were born here.  Others are naturalized citizens, but just allowing that EVERYONE who is foreign born is illegal that leaves 265 million citizens born in the US.  That comes out to a bit over two and a half GRAND (not million dollars).  Can you pay off your mortgage with less than three grand?

Why worry...surely there are plenty of Belgian and Chinese banks that can buy our the failing US banks.

I'm personally glad the house rejected bush & his cohorts attempt to rob the treasury one last time!!!
The American people have survived these disasters in the past & I'm sure we'll survive this one too...
I just hope that the dissent & social unrest from this isn't the excuse that bush uses to declare Martial Law & suspend the elections...

Yeah, Americans survived the Depression.  I've heard it wasn't a hell of a lot of fun though.

Do we need to experience that personally because we are angry at those who got us into this?

Because it will be the average person that experiences the greatest economic pain.  Not those you think we are going to punish by denying the bailout.  They may have to downgrade from a Gulfstream to a Learjet and trade the Bentley for a Mercedes but they'll do just fine.  It'll be the rest of us who will be hurting.
