Notice that McCain showed up for the ending part of the interview? I guess he was afraid of that pillar of investigative journalism Katie Couric and all of her history of
gotcha' journalism on the Today show....no...CBS news.....no....uh....hmmmm.....
There are no expectations of the Governor except "don't screw up"...I wonder how old she was when McCain made his famous speeches....Oh wait, he's never made one...Funny thing to say when your running mate is 107 years old...
I wish I was not going to be traveling Thursday night but, I guess I can catch the coverage on Saturday Night Live....

Last nite on Brit Hume's show on Fox News, some of his guests were conceding she is another "Dan Quayle" in the making, which is even funnier considering Quayle was the one who made the big stink about single parenting and out-of-wedlock births being portrayed on that Murphy Brown tv show.

Palin, a journalism major. .

cloudboy -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 8:12:33 AM)

Republicans don't value intelligence as much a loyalty and toting the party line. Its just harder now to have a party line with a string of failed policies attached to their ankles. (Being attacked on 9-11, failures in Afghanistan and IRAQ, Katrina, Israel-Palestine, and now the financial meltdown.)

The simplistic us v. them mentality in foreign policy doesn't work like it used too.

The tax cuts and free market way to run the economy hit an ice berg.

Bashing gays, promoting guns, fear mongering, and the abortion card --- none of these old staples will balance the federal budget, clean up two wars, and cure our banking ills.

Classic, "red meat" for the bigoted culture war assholes, and zero on the intellectual front.

I read:

THE NEW YORKER
THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS
THE NEW YORK TIMES
WASHINGTON POST
BALTIMORE SUN
SALON

--------

I will confess, however, that I'm not an avid reader (cover-to-cover) of Newspapers. I usually make through about 50% of the New Yorker and New York Review of Books.

In general I don't watch TV NEWS.

Palin is against the morning after pill. I found that out last night, in the clip I linked above. She thinks a newly fertilised egg is a child. She forgets that a large number of women who take Plan B as a preventative measure don't get pregnant anyway. And her father is a science teacher: did she miss out on the great DNA lottery?

kittinSol -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 8:19:26 AM)

She can't even name ONE publication! Argh! Creepy!

cloudboy -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 8:22:10 AM)

It shows she doesn't read. It also helps explain her batty way of answering questions.

I for one am going to hope they have somebody good come in and lay hands on her in prayer Thursday night.  Don't underestimate the psychological power of such rituals.  She is capable of tearing Biden up, if she finds her footing and her own voice again.

Out of her league?  Somebody probably said that the first time she ran for city council from the PTA.  Again when she ran for mayor, then when she took the appointment to the oil and gas commission.  How many said that when she took on an incumbent governor in the primary, beat him, and went on to win the general election as well?

I'm not sure what has been going on with her.  She's a lot better than this.  The wrong people prepping her, probably.

I'll be watching the debate.  Considering the week McC is about have in the polls, the pressure is going to be extreme for her to do well.  They make movies about this kind of stuff, when the ending is right.

i like what was said here.  and i like Palin *shrugs*  flame me if ya like.  i pray she does well too.  she has the potential to be a very good VP.

gemmie

kittinSol -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 8:25:24 AM)

Her batty way (the perfect adjective, by the way, thank you cloudboy :-) is because she is trying to be studious. She is literally spouting back the advice given to her at her media training classes instead of thinking the questions through.

bipolarber -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 8:29:20 AM)

She couldn't name any Newspaper of magazine that she reads on a regular basis.... she couldn't name a single supreme court ruling other than Roe vs. Wade.

In a previous interview, she gave a rambling answer worthy of that girl in the Miss America pagent.

Until last week, she hadn't met a single head of state.

She didn't even have a passport until last year.

Oh yeah! She's READY to be president if John McCain croaks. [8|]

Well the right ending to this movie is she takes her minor league ass back to Alaska and entertains them for a good long time.....

Only to come back in '12 to beat Hillary after the US figures out that Obama's idea of "change" was to be worse than President Bush II...[:D]
So you have conceeded 2008 to Obama?

Sarah Palin's abysmal interviews recently have lowered expectations to the point where all Palin has to do is not trip walking up to the podium, is this enough for you?Does not McCain's selection of this train wreck prove he is unfit for the office he seeks?
Will you be grading her on a curve? And if so why?
Sorry,I am of course referring specifically to Thursday's debate.

I am so disappointed that I have a class on Thursday night... I will have to catch Biden spanking Palin later on cspan or youtube

LaTigresse -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 9:37:45 AM)

I am only hoping I can make it all the way through without spewing.

A prime exmple of setting the bar low!

DomKen -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 1:07:49 PM)

If it isn't perfectly clear by now she has memorized responses to questions she is likely to be asked and on everything else she is completely unprepared and unable to even state a cogent opinion.

Vendaval -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 2:52:44 PM)

That is my take on the Thursday evening entertainment too, La T.  [&:]

Katchoo -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 4:16:19 PM)

Used to be American presidents and their VP's were accomplished, brilliant men. W has already proven that being articulate and highly intelligent is no longer a requirement for leading the most powerful nation in the world.

Were she truly ready for the position and the enormous responsibilities it potentially entails, she would have no need to be prepped by anyone.

Penis or pussy, blonde or black... makes no difference to me... but I would like to see someone inspiring back in the top two before I exit the planet.

A man with her "qualifications" and verbal "skills" would never have been considered.

threadbare -> RE: Low expectation as they apply to Palin (10/1/2008 5:29:25 PM)

totally- Heller v DC or Kelo v New London. I'd think any red-stater would have those two down. Wonder if she can name one justice aside from Alito, Scalia and Roberts.
Were I from AK it would be one embarrassing month
