I believe the fact is that you don't believe Palin is fit to serve as President. Accordingly  you presumably believe that McCain did not put "Country First" in choosing her but put politics first in a supremely risky fashion, hardly the behavior anyone with conservative leanings would want his candidate to do.

Noah, I am one of the few people on this board who had heard of Sarah Palin, before McCain announced her as the one.  I was the only one who predicted she would be the choice (link here).  Of course she was chosen for political reasons.  That is the nature of a vice-presidential pick.  Since you have to win, before you can lead, I'd say she fits nicely into the "Country First" model McC has adopted.  Rumor has it, he wanted Joe Lieberman.

Do I agree with everything she has ever said or done?  Hell no.  When this grand spectacle began, I was a supporter of Rudy Giuliani.  When he spoke here about a year ago, I was close enough to the lectern to look into his eyes while he spoke, and I would have busted my ass, working on his campaign.  This despite the fact that he has done things I completely disagree with.  My social attitudes often raise conflicts for me with Republican candidates, just as my fiscal opinions, and positions on personal responsibility caused some eye-rolling and teeth-grinding, back when the Democrats could still casually count on my vote.

Ready to be President?  That's a tough question, but I've got an either/or kind of choice, unless I choose to flush my vote in protest, to the creators of South Park.

I like her instincts.  I like her resume.  I have a certain amount of faith in the systems of checks and balances.  She's ready enough to take the ultimate intern job.

Now.  Tell me how you feel Barack Obama is ready for the job when he has never done anything but raise money with his mouth and vote "present."

And do be careful with presuming to know what is in my mind and heart.  I've already eradicated one poster from my screen over that sort of thing within the last 24 hours.

No, which is one of the reasons she won't be.

Ten years from now it will be "Sarah who?"

subrob1967 -> RE: Do you really think Sarah Palin is ready to be VP of the USA? (10/2/2008 7:31:47 AM)

Hell, I'd elect Palin to God, over an Obama Presidency.

Move to Alaska. I am sure you will be happy.

Interesting thing there is that, her popularity in Alaska is falling now. Amazing what the bright lights of reality can shine on.

StrangerThan -> RE: Do you really think Sarah Palin is ready to be VP of the USA? (10/2/2008 8:07:27 AM)

If Palin isn't qualified to be VP, Obama certainly isn't qualified to be Pres. That's kind of how I look at it. Neither one of them has a resume that indicates they're ready or even much good at what they've already done. Hell, you even don't know where Obama stands on a lot of things because he votes "present" so much of the time instead of yea or nay. If that's not political posturing, I don't know what is. What they do have is backers. Die-hards on both sides who will pick, poke, decry and denounce the other's qualifications while ignoring that same dearth on their own side, people who will hunt every little piece of shit and dirt they can to smear the other for no other reason than the other has a different political label.

I second the notion someone else had here that I don't know which scares me most. Obama as president or Palin as vice president.

It's not so much the qualification question that makes people balk at the thought of Palin. It's the intelligence factor. She is sorely lacking any. If you can't bluff your way through media interviews, you're seriously out of your league.

Right. Hilary Clinton is only a Yale Law School graduate, and one of the most influential lawyers in America. She's only been senator for New York for eight years.

She's obviously in the same intellectual league as Miss Caribou [8|] .

PS: Mike, I like it when you talk my kinda language [8D] .

Oh hell. In an open debate Hillary would shred Sarah Palin. Hillary is alot of things but stupid is not one of them.

RacerJim -> RE: Do you really think Sarah Palin is ready to be VP of the USA? (10/2/2008 9:38:44 AM)

Sarah Palin's resume' qualifies her for V-POTUS far better than Obama's resume' qualifies him for POTUS.

Obama is a deceitful and pompous "Empty Suit" -- nothing less, nothing more.

kittinSol -> RE: Do you really think Sarah Palin is ready to be VP of the USA? (10/2/2008 9:54:46 AM)

I'll tell you what's empty (and to go back on topic): it's Palin's cranium. Behind those pseudo intellectual glasses of hers (a rather obvious stage prop, if you ask me), there's a serious lack of interest in the world. People like her, who are sure about everything and question nothing, are easy to laugh at, but it's not so funny when they bring their religious dogma to the rest of us. Willful ignorance gets dangerous when it becomes public policy: Palin is a perfect illustration of this. Her lack of knowledge is elevated as a virtue by her GOP peers, but when mediocrity is held up to be a desirable quality in a political leader, you know you're up shit creek. Just say no.

I agree with everything you said. And most of it applies to both Obama and Palin. Religious dogma is religious dogma. Palin sticks with hers. Obama didn't denounce his until it became clear he would be the one injecting racism into the race if he didn't. He had about 20 years of room to do so on social and personal reasons prior to that and didn't. The only message he really has is change. To ignore that is willful ignorance. What you have a problem with kitten is not Palin, it's the Republican Party. I have a problem with both parties. I don't think either one has the integrity, the leadership or the will power to pull this country out of anything. After all, it both of them put us where we are. Both parties cater to the fringes in order to capture as many votes as possible. Neither one really gives a shit about this country or we would not be where we are today in terms of wars, financial catastrophies and social division because members of both damned well put us here. Both parties play the games of raising issues for no other reason than manuevers for future elections.

I have to vote the lesser of evils because I really don't have a common sense kind of person standing up there. I have a man who has no resume, who is a powerful speaker but hasn't backed up those words by actions on critical votes a lot of times and opted to just say present. I have a woman whose background paints her as one of those types I just can't stand. It's not conservatism I can't stand. It's the extreme right'ss affect on it. I'm all for lesser government, fewer taxes and less intervention in my life. NEITHER damned party offers that though. Both offer more and more and more of the same. It just depends on which way you lean personally whether or not they appeal to you.

I don't lean. I basically want both sides to shut up, quit arguing and handle issues with a common sense approach to them rather than trying to bend over backwards for every whining segment of society just to court a vote. The reality of it is though that I have to vote for one side or the other and that side is going to do it's damndest to determine how I live, what I do, how I do it, and I have basically crap to choose from.

Palin is a loser. So is Obama. Out of the entire cast of presidential folks standing up there, all 4 of them, McCain is the one dislike least. Having spent a good portion of 8 years in the military and in the middle east, he's at least the one I can respect on that ground. Past that, neither side is really offering much except their platforms and for a lot of people, that's all it really boils down to.

Until he croaks. Then who is the lesser of evils?

StrangerThan -> RE: Do you really think Sarah Palin is ready to be VP of the USA? (10/2/2008 10:54:21 AM)

I don't think the topic is, is she ready to be president. It's is she ready to be vice president, and she is as ready as Obama is to be president.

kittinSol -> RE: Do you really think Sarah Palin is ready to be VP of the USA? (10/2/2008 11:02:24 AM)

That's a trend I have noticed in recent republican soundbites: when Palin's intelligence and knowledge get questioned, they retaliate with 'But Obama!'. As if one could even remotely compare the two. It's a sure sign that they have NOTHING to back up their claims that she is 'ready'. She is not 'ready' for anything as complex as being second in line to the American presidency. Sorry.

StrangerThan -> RE: Do you really think Sarah Palin is ready to be VP of the USA? (10/2/2008 11:10:21 AM)

Palin is silent for a simple reason. She's well on the right side of things and they want to temper that some before letting her open her mouth. Anyone who doesn't understand that doesn't understand politics. Anyone who thinks that makes her stupid and makes Obama a better choice for a different office... well had the choice picked out before the running mates.

We can debate this forever, but there's really no reason to. Neither of us is going to change any opinions. If Obama gives me some reason to vote for him, I will. If not, I'll vote McCain. It's that simple.

Have a good day
