RacerJim -> RE: So what did you think of the debate? (10/3/2008 8:11:41 AM)

One thing I sorely wish Sarah Palin had pointed out is the difference between why McCain once voted against a troop-funding bill and why Obama did likewise -- the "time-line" issue.  McCain voted against a troop-funding bill specifically because it contained a time-line WITH a firm/set date for all of our troops to be out of Iraq, while Obama voted against a troop-funding bill specifically because it contained a time-line WITHOUT a firm/set date for all of our troops to be out of Iraq.  Whether one is losing or winning a war, the VERY LAST thing one should do is tell their enemy they are going to quit fighting on a specific date!  That Obama-Biden don't get that or, worse yet, do get that but won't acknowledge it for political reasons, is the pre-eminent reason why they should not be elected.

How about, "revolting," RML?  That was the first word I typed, and then went back.  "Vile?"  "The words of a spoiled brat who is going to take the ball and go home?"

'Country' ranks well above 'party' in my values hierarchy.  I don't wonder about the intelligence and basic worth of people who make comments like this.  I'm completely convinced.

     I'll add, "don't come back."

Disgusting, revolting, vile -- each and all.  Reflects Obama's "Me, Myself and I" persona.  Anyone who takes ten or so minutes to do a little research will find out that the very first time Obama participated in a Senate committee hearing (at the invitation of John McCain no less) he pompously lectured the committee.  During the recent White House meeting called by President Bush regarding the $700B "bailout" bill Obama reportedly once again pompously lectured everyone.  Also noteworthy was Obama's failure to convince even one member of the Congressional Black Caucus to change their vote on the "bailout" bill.

"Country" also ranks well above 'party', and moreover 'self', in my values hierarchy.

McCain-Palin = "Country First"
Obama-Biden = "Party/Self First"

Well, I think we need someone to step up and lead.

The pilot is dead or AWOL and the plane is in a dive.

To the naughty,a talking to would naturally seem like a lecture.

To those looking for leadership, those same words could be described as truthful, realistic and about fucking time.

What was McCain`s roll?

Faking the suspension of his campaign(never happened) and going to Washington to kill the deal that was agreed to.

Then taking credit for "improving"it,with billions more added to the package.

Any call to re-regulate and restore confidence in the system from McCain?Nope .

His only leadership was to kill the agreement and play the spoiler.

Then he slinked down to the Miss. debate, looking less than competent.

Obama,...presidential.

McCain,... desperate meddler.

I find that being articulate, straight forward, precise of purpose,
specifically focused and clearly honest in intent and delivery is
the best approach at communication using dignity and respect
when addressing a bunch of retards.

Throw in a whole lot of winks, "gosh darn it's", "you betchas",
and God forbid, puke, they tend to arch an eyebrow, smile at
each other and look at you like a bunch of electorates.

I know retards Quick Draw Mcpaw.
Retards are friends of mine.
You, Quick Draw Mcpaw,
don't know retards.

Seriously off the mark

Does anybody know what this mean? The intent of this post seems to be all over the place: do you object to Palin addressing you as if you were a retard too? Or don't you like that I noticed that she was talking to the audience as if they were a bunch of retards? Are you arguing that she was articulate, or are you agreeing with me that she wasn't? What's off the mark, me, you, or her, or all of us?

It never fails to amaze me of how someone will walk around with
shit on their face, rather than do the decent thing and wipe it off.

She didn't have to, Biden pointed it out for her.

She was more concerned with telling everyone how she was goin' to be a doggone, gosh darn, heckuva vice-president than actually dealing (I'm mean dealin' in Sarah-speak) in facts.

BIDEN: Gwen, with all due respect, I didn't hear a plan. Barack Obama offered a clear plan. Shift responsibility to Iraqis over the next 16 months. Draw down our combat troops. Ironically the same plan that Maliki, the prime minister of Iraq and George Bush are now negotiating. The only odd man out here, only one left out is John McCain, number one. Number two, with regard to Barack Obama not quote funding the troops, John McCain voted the exact same way. John McCain voted against funding the troops because of an amendment he voted against had a timeline in it to draw down American troops. And John said I'm not going to fund the troops if in fact there's a time line. Barack Obama and I agree fully and completely on one thing. You've got to have a time line to draw down the troops and shift responsibility to the Iraqis.

One thing to consider........ Having a defined time line does NOT mean you have to blab it all over the world.

Did anyone watch Palins facial expressions. A few times I thought she was going to lose it. I like the way the Biden chided her about the Maverick thing. I think her political time in Alaska is getting short. Seems like the people there are getting fed up with her. If I were Obama I would cancel his other debates and just keep traveling around the country talking with the people.

Did you watch Biden's facial expression when Palin pointed out that during the Democratic primary he himself said Obama did not have the experience or judgment to be POTUS?  Talk about a "Gotcha"!!!!  I also liked the way Biden chided her about the Maverick thing, also claiming he has been just as much a Maverick as McCain -- the latter being such a gross misrepresentation of the facts as to be an outright LIE.  Relative to the length of time each of them has been an elected politician, I'd bet that Biden has opposed the majority of Democrats/agreed with the majority of Republicans, i.e. been a Maverick, far less often than Palin or McCain has opposed the majority of Republicans/agreed with the majority of Democrats.

If I were Obama I also would cancel his appearances at the final two Presidential debates and just keep traveling around the country preaching to his subjects.  His "empty suit" doesn't look very good on tv.

I'll probably get the humour... some day. In the meantime, there's a serious cultural impediment that forbids me from getting it now [&:] .

But I do get that you can't polish a turd [;)] .

bipolarber -> RE: So what did you think of the debate? (10/3/2008 9:14:53 AM)

I wonder... how many Americans RESENT being referred to a "Joe Sixpack" True, in gay circles it's a compliment (it means you have washboard abs) but I think for most people, it conjures up the image of some beer swilling jerk in a wife beater shirt who's having trouble keeping his job down at the warehouse...

kittinSol -> RE: So what did you think of the debate? (10/3/2008 9:20:41 AM)

Face it, Jim. Unless there's a serious reversal of fortune for McCain, such as something violent (Republicans pray on fear, remember?), he's lost: I'm sure his retirement plan won't suffer too much from the downturn in the market. Palin will get a job as a talk show hostess after writing a book on her 'near vice-presidential experience'. Little old ladies will have porcelain decorative objects made in her effigy, and she'll have plenty more photo opportunities to show how big and wonderful her family is. Which isn't such a bad deal for her, really.

Yes, I suppose there could be no harm in thinking of a segment of the
population as, "less than".

But I do get that you can put lipstick on a turd and it's still a turd.

Palin and her advisors treated her audience like they were morons - but most of them aren't morons, and they weren't fooled by it, were they :-) ? I wouldn't go so far as to call anybody a turd (well, perhaps a few people...) though: Palin's just proven how inconsequential she is to the outcome of the election... and what a bad strategic mistake McCain and the GOP executives made in appointing her.
