my online friends are friends.  Fortunately, some have become RL friends, and similar to DV , when i meet online friends face-to-face, it's more like a high-school reunion than a first meeting.

i love knowing if i have a bad day, or a joke, or a happy news report, i can send out mass emails, and get some love in return.  i truly felt like getting on a plane and hitting Cali's ex in the kneecaps with a Louisville Slugger(lots of bending involved on my part...and let me point outthat i have nothing against "little people" and enjoy Verne Troyer in all the Austin powers movies) just as much as i wanted to when one of my best friends of many years was dealing wth similar issues.  i get all gooey eyed when lushy or christine or any of us have a break-up, and all joyfull over the moon when they find hot new Daddies, i pray for Things 1 and 2, and i cry when some of you lose loved ones, i pray for people on long journeys to Texas, and Texan friends from whom i miss receiving emails after Ike.  Just like i would for any other friends.

The TDHO laughs when i try to underplay how important my CM friends are to me.  Something will happen, and He figures "they know" pretty soon afterwards. (though i am getting better LOL)  i have a bunch of RL  friends i've accumulated during my lifetime, all over the world...(i am a lucky girl)  but i still value my online friends, and the connection i share with them is no less than any others...often we have more of a connection.  Not all of my RL friends are happy that i let guys "boss me around" or that i seem to be overly fond of cocksucking.  But the Pimpettes??? Hell, we hold emergency cock-sucking advice and intervention meetings!!!![;)]

Loves her soul sista
and as far as cocksocking intervention?
head back, relax your throat.[;)]

Okay, now I'm fondly remembering Tulip showing us what it was like when she was caught outside, cocksucking, by a helicopter flying overhead.  LMFAO!  It was priceless!!!!

I think they are or can be friends, as people have said its about being there for you, I have had people that i have never met that i am closer to than people i see all the time. However all of my online friends I do desire to meet in real life, there is so i guess I do have a value judgement to the friendship, however an example from here is GT I have only met her once for like a day and a bit far less than I see some of my r/l friends but I love her to bits because as has been said I know if i had a problem she would be there for me 100% where some of my friends wouldnt.

GreedyTop -> RE: online friends....can they ever be classed as real life friends? (10/4/2008 7:46:57 AM)

I gotta say this.. when I was blessed to meet Cj and the Pimpettes.. I felt as if I had known every one of them forever...

An on-line friendship is as real as a R/L one.  People do not have to meet face to face to share thoughts, joys, disappointments, and experiences.

Yes I agree with this.

I have yet to meet any of the people coming across the country for my birthday but I count them all as friends and some I count as VERY Close Friends.

I have been watching the plans for your birthday bash with much jealousy...it sounds like it will be fabulous

I count most of you on this thread as friends. I care about you, and I don't doubt that you care about me.   Your sorrows and joys affect me.

grins...I SO want to meet you GT!

And the rest of you are just friends I've yet to befriend.

I have made some very close friends online, but I do consider the majority of my online contacts to be acquaintances, rather than friends, if we are being all semantic about it.

grins.... one can never have too much discussion about semantics.  I do seem to have some sort of intangible point at which people change from acquaintances to friends
quote:

ORIGINAL: persephonee
but i have yet to form a connection with a person online that didnt translate into realtime...if youre my friend online, chances are we will click in real time.

Yes I have found this as well...and isn't it fantastic when you are meeting for the first time yet already have such a history of shared in-jokes and knowledge about each other.

Acquaintances are the ones I might talk to the rest of my life and if the oppertunity never presented itself to visit, we would never meet.

Yes true (damn do I always agree so much with everyone? ) .... I actually have already made plans to visit both of my friends who are coming out here at some stage next year and thankfully circumstances meant both were able to come down under first....yet I have some online acquaintances I have known for a few years and I have even been in the same place as them yet have not been too upset when plans to meet did not eventuate.

Just because we met online does not lessen our friendship or link.

Shadow took it a step further and came down for 2 days so that I wouldn't have to handle the move all by myself. How is that not friendship?

smiles.... I often am blown away by the acts of friendship I hear about in message boards.  Though it doesn't surprise me as I have been on the receiving end of so much kindness at various times.

I probably know more about some of their lives than I do about my friends that I hang out with in person. I know some of them know more about my life than they may care to!

That is definitely true for me on both counts.

I treasure them, and one gal in particular (and I know you know who you are *wink*), has helped carry me through some of the darker times I've had this year.

I found myself coming here a few times a day to read updates on how CM people were going after Ike..even when people are away or traveling for a few days I confess to thinking about them and wondering how they are going

Just wow

Absolutely... from CJ picking me up at the airport, to the next day when I was running screaming thru the baggage claim area towards Lushy and Hib who were similarly running screaming towards me, to the next day when Greedy came thru the gate at CJ's and came running screaming towards me and me towards her... (Tulip sauntered in after that with some dignity, no running/screaming).

Hmmm... there seems to be lots of running and screaming in our friendships... but in any case, it was like a long-awaited reunion, definitely not like a first-time meet.

GreedyTop -> RE: online friends....can they ever be classed as real life friends? (10/4/2008 9:12:58 AM)

it was awesome, wasn't it?   And I think the only reason Tulip didnt do the running and screaming thing was because she'd driven the whole way.....

since you live in the boonies, Bear body disposal shouldnt be a problem.

A good friend will come visit you in jail, a great friend will bail you out of jail,
but your best friends will be sitting next to you saying, "Man that was fucking AWESOME!"

In my world:

friends are your “tribe”
You exchange money & services freely with friends to help in the group’s mutual survival.  By measure, a friend will help you burry the body and then bear false testimony in court to protect you.

…your love(s) is/are your “family”
You will risk more than your time, effort and money for your love or family, you will risk your life to protect them and insure the group’s survival.  By measure, your love/family will help make the body in the first place

...online
If someone is only there for your fair weather emotional support, counseling, advice or even something as intimate as phone sex, it is still just free therapy.  That is an acquaintance not a friend or a love in my book.  If you are someone online that will share money, time, labor and maybe even hop a plane to help burry the body, then you are a friend indeed.

Goodness RS, you seem to mentioning bodies quite a bit here.  Need a hand, Sir?

I don't think friendship should be classified by the method of delivery.  Even though Gwyn didn't make it to the party in Florida, I consider her every bit as much of a friend as the people who were able to be there.
I think it's what you share, not how you share it, that makes a friend.
Cali

I Sooooo Absolutely Agree With That!!!
And with Everyone here who's said that friends we have "on line" are just as real If Not MORE SO ... then RT friend-ish aquaintences.

I bought my very first computer in 1999, and in an odd little "off the wall" chat room ... learned more about "life" in general ... while making the VERY Best ... Life Long Friends I've Ever Had!!!

And it's been those very same "on line" friends who've helped me through some really dark periods of life,  and who've shown me ( quite litterally ) just how accessible the Rest Of The World REALLY Is.
We often travel in and out of our own home countries to visit with one another ...we  talk via the telephone several times a week ... we email EVERY Day .. and we send snail mail, cards, and gifts back and forth.
I wouldn't hesitate to say that They've honestly become More Dear then most of my REAL family members
( my "on line" friends definitely KNOW me better then Any of my family members )

all in all ... I can't help laughing Right Out Loud at those I hear say  "on line" relationships are nothing more then a sick ... time wasting "Internet" fantasy   [sm=LMAO.gif]
