Heretic, everybody has their kink....

;-)

NumberSix -> RE: Palin positives (10/4/2008 9:35:24 PM)

She provides good fodder for comedians and apologists.

That is as positive an attribute as I can give.

She just has such a vapid, smarmy, plastic look about her. Maybe it's the fact that she's such a miserable, mean-spirited, snotty excuse for a human being. Her inner ugliness is shining through.

Shouldn't that be over in the thread about hating her?

Oops! You're right.

Well, I only meant it in the most favorable possible way.

philosophy -> RE: Palin positives (10/4/2008 9:41:53 PM)

FR

.......er........she has focussed a much needed debate on the seperation of church and state.

bluepanda -> RE: Palin positives (10/4/2008 9:43:07 PM)

She's absolutely, 100% certified Witch-Proof!

bluepanda -> RE: Palin positives (10/4/2008 9:44:06 PM)

She makes Dan Quayle look like Jack Kennedy!

TheHeretic -> RE: Palin positives (10/4/2008 9:44:14 PM)

And she gave the right answer on it, Phil.  With a veto, not a speech.  (Link is at the bottom of my first reply in the thread.)

..had a quick look at it, and i'm glad she did veto the bill. However, the whole church v state thing is a much bigger issue than just gay rights. Though that is a part of it.  What i do think she has done, and not by any direct action or veto on her part, is make people wonder about that separation thing.
Like anyone with strong beliefs she has inevitably polarised opinion. She does appear to have acted on some of her beliefs and not on others.

DesertRat -> RE: Palin positives (10/4/2008 9:51:30 PM)

~fr~
She's not saddled with preconceived notions (also known as "knowledge") about foreign affairs, geopolitics, or economic issues. She reads so many publications, she couldn't even begin to name them. She has a pulse.

DomKen -> RE: Palin positives (10/4/2008 10:16:40 PM)

I'm sure someone somewhere thinks that her agreeing with Cheney on interpretations of the office of vice president's constitutional authority and position in government is a good thing. Besides shotgun dick himself I can't imagine who that would be but she sure made it clear during the debate that she was serious.

TheHeretic -> RE: Palin positives (10/4/2008 10:47:20 PM)

Going back to the OP for a moment, we should also look at all the positives she has brought to the campaign.  This also reflects on McCain for making the particular choice.

She solidified, and motivated the religious wing of the party.  I don't like them very well, but realpolitik dictates a Republican find a way to bring them aboard.  She did that.

Reagan was "teflon," Sarah is a trampoline.  An amazing number of the attacks and questions on her, bounce right back onto the top of the Dem ticket.  Experience and religion at the top of the list.  Those actually hit a bit harder on him because her experience is executive, and she left the more 'intense' church without it becoming a national issue.

The biggie is how she has drawn out the bile, spite and bitter partisanship Barack Obama spoke about ending when he stepped into the national spotlight.  Now that it's time for his behavior to match his glowing proclamations of virtue, he's mighty quiet.  Believe it or not, the hate speech is a real turn-off for a lot of folks.  Oh you betcha.  She highlights very nicely that the most important value in the Dem platform is hatred for those who disagree.  She's like Luminol for liberal hypocrisy.

caitlyn -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 5:32:24 AM)

I'm unlikely to vote for Governor Palin, but do find her interesting in a likable sort of way.

Compartmentalizing a little bit ... she has added to the ticket, which is both a positive and an accomplishment.

I was stunned she did so well in the debate. Again, from the point of compartmentalization, if you consider the goals, she was the clear winner.

As far as qualifications ... the chief quality required to be a leader, is leadership. Every time I hear someone bash Senator Obama's or Governor Palin's experience, I think about who some of our best generals and leaders were, and just smile ... and think about all the people throughout history with worlds of experience, that couldn't lead a thirsty horse to water.

meatcleaver -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 6:28:39 AM)

Experience has always been a red herring but Sarah Palin's ignorance isn't.

We were all stunned she did so well in the debate but then, she never really answered a pertinent question, she just waffled on eating up time. It would be interesting to see her in a proper debate where she has to respond to quick fire questions. My youngest daughter could have survived the debate Palin had to endure and she can bearly speak.

NumberSix -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 6:34:37 AM)

So, meat.

To reframe your response into a Palin positive:

"She is capable of  memorization, and learning rote."
meat.

That about sack it up?

You took the words out of my mouth NumberSix.

I guess I must have been having a Palin moment and couldn't articulate my thoughts well enough.

LadyEllen -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 7:13:26 AM)

I would say that the one admirable point I find about her is that she has taken a position and done so unapologetically, maintaining it against quite considerable attack.

I can admire someone for sticking to their guns like that, rather than changing with the tide of popular opinion to appeal to the latest poll, even if I might disagree with their particular position.

And I guess too we should thank her for showing such resolve in demonstrating her character and viewpoint. At least with her we can be pretty sure who she is, what she might do if elected.

I suppose being obstinate can be a quality...

It could be seen by some as obstinacy, whilst being seen by others as conviction.

I meanwhile, couldnt possibly comment.

Except to point out that conviction is not always a good thing when one looks back through history at those leaders who relied on conviction to determine their policies in a world which can move quickly to outmanouevre fixed positions.

kittinSol -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 7:25:59 AM)

Well this is the thing: if someone in power is obstinate from a position of right, it's for the common good. If someone has power and is obstinate from a position of stupidity, it sucks.

seeksfemslave -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 7:33:48 AM)

She upsets PC liberals.   She dresses well.    She loves Alaska   I think she likes me judging from the way she looks at me when making her speeches.
