Correct: there are no Palin positives except that she provided us with a fantastic source of laughs.

No, but you can aspire to if you like. Try to watch several hours of Fox News. That should lower your IQ by several dozen points - enough to put you in the ballpark. [;)]

And further, should she choose an audience that was sympathetic to her cause.....

Who would know?

I am mightily impressed with how she has been able to memorize almost all of GoPAC's talking points in only three years.

I am sorry LadyE, I've been wracking my brain all day trying to come up with something other than...

She is entertaining if you can watch her without spewing
She shone a slightly brighter bulb on the campaign of the guy that looks like walking death, that is her running mate.

Unfortunately I don't think it was the sort of light he was hoping for. Unless he likes humiliation play.

Oh, and I think she might have an acting future on daytime soaps. Enough people have bought her lame lines so far.

Don't let it trouble you for a moment, Kitten.  We have lots of regional and cultural sub-dialects going.

So you prefer your politicians to just 'get on board' with corruption, when they encounter it, Kitten?  Or are you just in utter denial of this woman's career?

I like her accent. It's kind of cute. She reminds me of Bobbie's Mom.

She's a mavericky maverick of a maverick, mavericking her maverickness in so many mavericky ways.

As much as I disagree with Palin's extreme social conservative politics (but think it is the lesser of the evil of Obama's fiscal liberal/socialism so am reluctantly going to vote for Palin/Mccain), I don't entirely agree with the opinion of her as this know-nothing-bumbling idiot.

Regardless of how the media is trying to stretch it and twist it, the "common person, simple thinking, disconnected from "big politics", hardcore family values" image she has created is her major selling point to the middle class. Of course, the media is going to eat it up, because this is really the first time (at least in my short life span) we have had a candidate who presented herself as "one of the middle class" as opposed to a "Washington politician who is for the middle class".

In my opinion, her performance at the debate with Biden provides pretty solid proof that she can hold her own in the political arena and is not this completely unqualified dolt who is making a fool of the Republican party.

Are some people going to be influenced by the media and not vote for McCain, because they believe she is an idiot? Of course. Are they going to get caught up in the way she talks and her presentation as opposed to the substance of her message? Sure.

However, I find it really hard to believe she is the wrecking ball for McCain in the polls as opposed to the backlash toward the Republican party from a lot of Americans who are pissed off at Bush for the bail out. In fact, I honestly believe that despite the bad publicity, she is doing more good then bad for him.

At the very least, I will feel a little better as I reluctantly cast my vote.

How about getting some Palin dissenters who can write in decent grammar and provide some substance to their arguments that extends beyond the brilliance of "She's a doo-doo head"?

We seem to be short on those as well.

TabrisMaceth -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 9:23:58 PM)

Hey, I just thought of a positive about Palin! And no, it's not that she can knock out a moose with a single punch. By cutting funding to the Alaskan Special Olympics and making rape victims pay for their own rape kits, she's been helping Alaska get through the economic crisis...or something! She's not an atrocious human being! She's just a penny pincher!
...You know what? Let's go with that "knocking a moose out with a single punch" thing.

TheHeretic -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 9:38:33 PM)

That's one of the things conservatives do, Tabris.  They cut spending.  What a concept that medical insurance should pay for medical kits, huh?   I hadn't heard the Special Olympics claim.  That will sound just awful to those who figure that every worthy cause that comes along should have endless access to the taxpayers teat.

edit to add:  It looks like she cut $124 million out of the states budget last year.  I consider that pretty positive.

TabrisMaceth -> RE: Palin positives (10/5/2008 11:50:27 PM)

Yeah, Sarah Palin- who has a mentally handicapped child- actually cut funding to the Alaskan Special Olympics. Not only that, but she apparently "really went out of her way to make this cut":

http://medianation.blogspot.com/2008/09/sarah-palin-and-special-olympics.html

And in case you're wondering what Palin's side of the story is:

http://www.thesarahpalinstory.com/palin-special-olympics

"It was one of many bloated budget requests made by non-profits in the state hoping to reach deep into state coffers filled with oil revenue money the state received in the form of royalties from energy companies working on the North Slope."

Yeah! Shame on you, Special Olympics! Trying to get a piece of that oil revenue money! You greedy motherfuckers!

Sarah Palin IS one of the most interesting, entertaining, and charismatic people the republicans have had on their ticket since Ronnie.  She has so shaken the media elite that all you see are vignettes of her speeches, Tina Fey SNL skits, and now, and finally, getting down to understanding who this man Barack has been associating with, being mentored by, all his life.  Sarah went toe to toe with a three decade lion of the Senate and more than held her own and, in fact, I think really charmed old Joe.  How many people criticising Sarah Palin today would be able to muster up the guts and intelligence to go before about 70 million people in this country...not counting foreign reruns, and be as poised and articulate as Palin?  Not many...heck....Biden even beat Barack and Hillary in the democrat party primary debates!!!

With all respect, Sarah Palin is attracting the crowds of people who think like her, speak like her, are normal americans like her...and ARE her!  And she doesn't need Bruce Springsteen to attract and warm up the crowds.
It's gonna be an interesting October!

Truly this is a positive in a representative democracy - the ability to make the electorate believe that you are one of them, that they can relate to you and that you will represent them as they'd like to be represented.

But given that the country is split on almost 50/50 basis nevertheless, and given the veracity of this particular positive, its also clear that not everyone believes Palin to be like them, not everyone feels they can relate to her or that she would represent them as they'd like to be represented - or there is more to people's preferences than merely an appeal to this positive.

Irishknight -> RE: Palin positives (10/6/2008 5:45:35 AM)

Here's a positive.  Since she was announced as running mate, the Obama campaign has changed its theme music to "I don't like your girlfriend."

That's a joke for those who want to look it up in factcheck.
