One would immediately state that a newbie couldn't readily approach play to a high level, because they lack confidence that is gained from experience. Well this is very wrong

So true.  For me, prior experience had nothing to do with the level of play, even at the very beginning.

kyra played with no one before me, after a couple of testing scenes... I played her and brought her to a level that was beyond what many experience after a few years and took days for her to wrap her mind around.

Same for me.  I had never been beaten, flogged, tied....nothing before Master.  Our first experience together was very intense and He cut me no slack, so to speak.  It was amazing what I took and took well, if I do say so myself.  I had NO prior experience and jumped in with both feet and took one hell of a whipping.  Thinking that a newbie can't jump right in and take anything an ole pro can is just utter nonsense.  Some of us can and have................luci

~fast reply~

I've got to jump in on this too. I was never trained to be a masochist. I discovered I was a masochist when I played the first 3 times. I took more and more and wanted more and more. Each time was more intense than the previous and I loved it....still do...a lot lol. I have discovered that things that feel painful to some translate to pleasure for me instead.

I believe a person can be worked with to increase pain tolerance and take more, but not trained to be a masochist. I think that is more a part of someone's makeup than a learned behavior. My opinion only.

I always remind the one that I am bringing through the first experiences of pain to breathe. I remind them that we naturally tense up when we experience impact and when coupled with pain we tend to hold our breath. By breathing in the same way you would through a physical workout at the gym ~ in thru the nose and out through the mouth I explain to them they are allowing the pain and sensations to move through them. An example is first time nipple torture...I keep emphasizing breathing and having them actualize that when they breathe in it feels as though they are breathing through their nipples but when they blow out they get like a half seconds break. As they learn to breathe long full breathes and focus on breathing the build up of the pain threshold is easily attained. The breathing can almost become meditative and I think its a great path to space....
