BitaTruble -> AIG takes the $ and runs to luxury spa (10/7/2008 12:38:36 PM)

One week after AIG's $85 billion dollar bailout, the execs run down to a luxury spa to have a conference and 'calm down' to the tune of almost half a million dollars including $20,000+ spent on the golf course and in the spa getting massages, manicures and pedicures.

Must be tough hauling around all that free money.

Man, I feel for those guys .. I really do.

AIG luxury spa trip

I've included a link but actually heard about this while watching the congressional hearings.

Yes it's tough, they wanted to $50,00 spa but had to settle with the $20,000 spa instead. Those poor soles, we should all pray.

Do i start saving up for a fruit cart to put out on the street. i think i have one of those caps the boys used to wear when they were standing on the corner with newspapers calling out..."Extra! Extra! Read all about it..."

Seriously, how bad will all of this get? i watched that 60 minutes thing and havent stopped shaking since. The sky is falling. i think im going to go back to bed.

The 'Regis' is very nice!

Good thing Senators Obama and McCain authorized President Bush's bail out plan or else they'd be at the Holiday Inn.

Reminds me of when Keating had his party in Phoenix at his newly opened Phoenician Resort paid for with bad loans. He gave out $40,000 worth of 'silly string'.

There are international treaties against child labour.

I think the $50 Billion Senator Obama plans to give to the UN will be for policing that problem.

Barack Obama, who lamented Friday that "we have not managed our federal budget with any kind of discipline," is nonetheless promising to spend $50 billion on a United Nations anti-poverty program that critics say will drive up American debt.
"The short-term weakness in the capital market is a reflection of long-term problems that we have in our economy," Obama told reporters in Florida. "We have been loading up enormous amounts of debt."
Yet Obama and his running mate, Joe Biden, have pledged tens of billions in new spending on a U.N. program that promises cash to poor countries. The program is one of eight sweeping "Millennium Development Goals" the U.N. adopted in 2000.
“Obama and Biden will embrace the Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015, and they will double our foreign assistance to $50 billion to achieve that goal,” the candidates vow in their campaign platform.

Two wrongs make a right?

Lockit -> RE: AIG takes the $ and runs to luxury spa (10/7/2008 2:03:04 PM)

This just shows that they didn't get the message and some were too easy on them.  Rather than a spa... some ought to be in jail... including some of our leaders!  Think about it... the stress we are under, we get no spa for... we get a message board or a good lay... but we don't get pampered on someone else's dime.

As for the cool drink stands... we had a young lady close by that got shut down because she didn't have a business liscense and health department inspections.  They shut her down and because of some who felt the gov was wrong to do this to her, they bought her a whole set up, with inspections and such so that she could stay in business.

It's going to be hard to find something the general public will be willing to pay for when they can't afford to keep their own families going and it is something they can provide for themselves.  It is easy to be charitable and think.. how cute... a young'un that wants to make a buck and has the wherewithall to do something about it... when you can afford to spare an extra coin... somehow I doubt many of us will be in that place.

Are you starting to loose it? What the eff? The ILO's child labour regulations are signed by the USA; in fact, much of the United Nations agencies are RUN by Americans, and the ILO is no exception. I can't believe that you're taking this as yet another opportunity for another anti-UN, anti-Obama, anti-progress rant. Oh, hold on. I can believe it [8|] .

And if ILO is involved, perhaps that is exactly where Senator Obama plans to have the money used. Do you have any other insights?
Please provide any and all examples of UN agencies "RUN by Americans". I seek to have your perspective.

Why is it that pointing out facts to you is "anti"? Why is it 'anti-progress' to not put another $50 Billion of US dollars into an institution that sanctions what is going on in Darfur?

I don't know why I bother - you never answer any direct question...

kittinSol -> RE: AIG takes the $ and runs to luxury spa (10/7/2008 2:25:46 PM)

My insight is that I have worked at both the ILO, WIPO, and the UN. These agencies are run by lawyers, especially the first two. These lawyers are, for a large majority, American citizens, trained in America, in American universities.

Secondly, it is you who made a completely goofy link between Obama's supposed plan to go on a spending spree to 'help poor nations' and the ILO and labour laws. I therefore ask that you justify this insight of yours, since you seem to know more than anybody else does when it comes to that money. It looks as though you don't know the work of the ILO, as you made an erroneous link 'child labour=poor nation'. These laws protect minors throughout the world, and industrialised western nations too have child labour concerns and have signed those treaties. Unbelievable, isn't it?

Thirdly, you didn't 'point facts', as seen above. Therefore, I have no question to answer, as you haven't asked any, but rather made some eccentric claims that have not an ounce of weight to them.

Edited for spelling.
