quote:
How many times have you defended yourself with your gun? Lots? If so, I'd suggest you might want to make some basic changes in how you're living. I've lived and worked in some really scary places and never been in a situation where I needed a gun. I've made it through 54 years so far, and expect to muddle through a few more decades. Somehow, I manage to go through life unafraid, even though I am gunless. Can you imagine that? None, but I have never had to call the police for a break in either. I keep self defense guns for the same reason I keep a condom on me. Likely wont need it (least not the condom with my luck lately) but I would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. And I am not afraid, has nothing to do with being afraid or otherwise, it has to do though with taking care of myself. When it comes down to it I trust my gun and myself to protect me from a criminal more then I do a cop. quote:
Also, how do you know most private gun owners are better shots? Not that it matters Mostly personal opinion. But also just general studying of behavior. Many police who aren't private gun owners themselves don't shoot outside of qualifying. I'm not saying they are all terrible shots, but in general private gun owners shoot better. Go to a shooting match where the cops have a team, bet you ten bucks that in at least two out of three matches (involving all different teams) the cops team is spanked. Cops ammunition is rationed. If they use it all up they aren't allowed more without getting a serious reaming unless they pay for it out of pocket...few do that aren't private gun owners. quote:
"Irresponsible adults allowed a kid to be irresponsible with a gun that ended in the childs death" While it is sad, accidental deaths from guns is low it is more the media hypes as many of them as possible. More kids probably die by tripping down the stairs then they do from accidentally shooting themselves with a gun. I also think a lot of those that do happen come from people who hide the gun away like a dirty secret next to mommies "back massager". I know people who grew up on farms and started shooting 22's at the age of five, and were handling them unsupervised before ten. Only one had an accident and that was his friend who accidentally shot himself in the foot. Education prevents accidents IMO not hiding things. quote:
, then let's remind them that Cars, airplanes, boats, knives, base balls, bats, lakes, swimming pools, bridges, electrical equipment, buildings, and etc etc etc... also kill people and should be band by everybody. Actually each (cars especially) kill more people then accidental guns do. And you say earlier one of the most fundamental points to people with common sense- if you want to kill someone you can without a gun. Maybe it is magic. quote:
i think the world would be a safer place if they replaced all firearms with dildos I think the world would be a safer place if we updated a medieval English law. All male citizens between certain ages should be required to do two hours of practice per week in handguns and a long gun of their choice. quote:
Even if Guns never existed, I conclude these deaths and attempts would have not only still have happened, but would have also been more successful. Reagan and Brady would have been dead rather than wounded. Happened plenty pre-gun. Ceaser anyone?
