kittin, Florida's law regarding felons and voting is an anachronism that goes back to the post civil war years. These laws were enacted by many southern states because the intention was to keep felons ( who were mostly black) from voting. Today, the intention is to keep felons from voting because the fear is that they, black, brown or white, would vote Democratic. Of course, this opens the door to specious arguments about whether blacks are more felonious and Democratic (read liberal ) or whether they are more likely to wind up being convicted due to a lack of $$ for sharp defense attorneys. Nevertheless, Florida is one of a few southern states that has fought tooth and nail to perpetuate this disenfranchisement of felons who have paid their debt to society. Of course, our governors and whores in the state legislature have been Republican. Coinkidink ?

I'd say not. And I also say that felons' civic rights should be automatically restored upon their liberation from prison. After all, they're supposed to be all fresh and new - how come there isn't an uprorar over this? I hear of voters who are afraid to go to the voting booth, who don't vote because they don't have a driver's license, who have their name taken off the voters' registry... what the fuck?!

I missed registration, oops. But I am not in favor of either pres candidate, and there are zero opponents in the congressional elections here.

I couldn't agree more, SilverMark. I, too, have always voted both in local and national elections since I was 18. This system is far from perfect, but there are much worse governments to live under in this world and if we don't like something, we should be willing to do what it takes to change it and that begins with doing what's necessary to ensure we are heard. This means registering to vote and then exercising that right as often as possible.

I've never served on a jury because I was exempt due to the ages of my UMs, but that won't be an issue the next time I am called. Should be an interesting experience if I am chosen.

I am registered and will vote, with the ability to vote but to concede to exercise your rights to cast your ballot only makes you less of a citizen.
My philosophy: If you are able to vote and do not, then set down and shut up.

I hope you all realise that democracy is an illusion since the list is limited to those that have acquired wealth and power in other areas. Once upon a time MP's were part of the community and representative of those communities now however MP's have two homes their constituency home and their real home. This is what party politics does, if I had my way all MP's would have to live somewhere for five or ten years before they could represent that constituency that way so called safe seats would not be used merely to elect cronies and the MP's would share the actual experiences of their constituents. There would be less personality politics also which can’t be bad.
