Can I ask this so I understand you correctly CL?  So you suggest that any s-type who does not identify as service orientated is only after sex for themselves?

You may ask.

The answer is I suggest nothing.

Personally,I would call her the by her/his name.

i know you are! And you know me well enough to know when i am sarcastic as well! LOL!  And my take on labels!!!! Just had to throw that one out there to the masses!

i truly admire service-only submissives however, i personally desire everything in a relationship...from dirty dishes to tantric sex.  i am an all or nothing kind of girl .

However, if i could afford to hire someone to do the menial chores of everyday living i would not look at that as being "less than" what i am...after 46 years, i would not miss washing dishes or doing laundry in the slightest!

There are somethings i would put alot of thought into the actual service aspect, such as personal grooming (him or me), creative ways of food preparation and serving ( adding an erotic or nurturing aspect) and ofcourse anything done with love, is "service" in and of itself...

But, i really like to just get the menials over and done with because i would rather be playing with my Partner than scrubbing his bathroom floor. One is a desire, the other a necessity ~

And please, no offense to anyone that finds any type of cleaning meaningful...it is just something i like to get done and over with...kind of like a shot or a colonoscopy!

Then colour me confused.
I'm just unsure if you are saying that s-types that don't identify as service, are focusing on sex for themselves or as a pleaser for the dominant.

Not sure the two notions are contradictory, myself. Certainly any slave of mine that wants to get laid is bound to be pleasing

Ok. i have a little trouble understanding this concept.

on my other post it was described as
quote:

ORIGINAL: tsatske

quote:

what exactly does it mean to say that one is a service oriented sub? as opposed to what?

It means doing the dishes.

now i know she meant that in a more broader sense, but i am still confused. ok.

Service oriented subs enjoy performing services... but more closely related to house duties?
this is what context clues would lead me to believe.

i know nothing said about subs or any one type of people can be said to be true for the whole, but do service oriented subs only serve this purpose?

i mean i just dont understand this concept.

as far as i understand, if asked to do something, considered a "service" or not, i would think a sub would do it. i would atleast.

So then what does it mean to say one isnt a service oriented sub? that you dont enjoy housework??? that you want to have a life??? i dont understand

What's so hard to understand. Some people find actual enjoyment from helping others. Whether it's helping with housework or helping a stranger with their groceries. Service orientated subs to me denote someone who do what they do because they have a need to be needed and expect nothing in return. What they get out of it is the satisfaction that they were helpful. Usually a selfless act to a greater degree. Sex isn't service as far as I'm concerned.

Its not like i am seeking a new theory of relativity or anything. merely just to understand. to me sex is a service in some aspects. like sucking dick is a service... i would say i get absolutely no pleasure out of that except to know that He is enjoying it and pleased. therefore i love doing it.

that being said, as far as i understand, i can draw this conclusion... even with all the input

all subs or slaves are service oriented... but not the other way around.. and i know people are gonna be like "No!!! never say all.."

but is it not true that on the whole if you like servicing someone in what ever way, making them happy, then you are providing a service.

on a more general level you are employed under the service to keep him happy...

therefore service oriented...

i just think its a little overkill to say, but i do see how this fits people who arent subs, so i understand.

Amen to that!
It just set off another thought in my head in the reverse, which is why I asked.  I believe I was thinking out loud.  I think it's probably for another post though, when I formulate it properly in my head.  Thanks CL!

Hi,

Although i am a slave, not a sub, i am going to take a whack at this... i am very service oriented and always have been. For me, it means that i gain happiness from helping/serving others, no matter who they are. Whether it is helping a customer find what they need in the store, picking up something someone dropped on the street, opening a door for someone when their arms are full -- it gives me pleasure to do these things.

In my relationship, it means that i am not only happy to serve my Master sexually (wooohoo!) but to do other things for Him as well. To wash Him in the shower and dry Him off after, to put some clothes in the laundry for Him, whatever He needs done. Oh, and i detest doing housework for myself, but when i am doing it for Him... totally different! i want to make His life easier, smoother. If He called me to His home to do nothing but clean for Him or help Him with yard work, i would do that with a smile on my face. i don't have to be on my back (or hands and knees, or bent over or... where was i?) to serve Him and please Him, i can do that all the time and still bring a smile to His face, which is in turn, my reward.

It can mean washing the dishes. It does, sometimes. But it is more than that. It is the idea of making His life easier, that my presence makes things a little easier for Him in some way.

regards,

g

Well said.

To varying degrees. I mean if a sub didn't want to do anything but wash the dishes would you consider her service oriented? I wouldn't.. She would simply be providing a service..It just isn't the same as being service oriented. If all she wanted to do was something sexual I would still come to the same end.

I suppose it would be a horrible thread hijack to suggest that both s-types and d-types are "in it for themselves", regardless of what qualifiers they put on things?

I guess it would be left to intentions behind it. Are you thinking of yourself when you do something or are you thinking of the other person. I personally can see a difference.

I'd probably be labeled a service oriented slave..but aren't all slaves? That's another topic..anyway...

No, I am not the least bit service oriented but am owned. He puts me to service for him but my desire is to be managed, controlled, dominated not to serve. I serve because I'm owned and wish to be kept.

I am not service oriented. I get no enjoyment from doing his laundry. I don't get a feeling of satisfaction for helping him this way. I do it because it needs to be done, but it doesn't do anything for me.  I don't get upset if he pours himself a glass of water instead of having me do it, and my understanding is that service oriented subs do feel as if they fail if the dominant doesn't let them serve.

Okay, yea - and it is silly. you might even go as far as downright stupid. But, yes, I get unhappy if I see him get His own coffe, ect.
That is why my traditional answer to the one word command 'Slut' - with a coffee cup, ect, extended in my direction, - is, 'With Joy, Sir.' Cause I mean that.
I thought I posted to this thread way earlier, before going to work this morn, but obviously it did not go through.
The thing I most wanted to share was,
I belong to a fantastic Yahoo group on the subject of service submission:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/service-excellence/

Some topics that have been covered on this group include: the best way to pour a soda. HOw to properly set a table. someone posted a link on toilet paper orgami.

To many 'service oriented subs'. the concept includes the idea of doing things 'correctly', or 'in the best way.' It also includes the concept, for some. of doing things in the way Master prefers it - remebering how he likes his coffee, for instance. Or, the fact that I keep what I call a 'magic cookbook' - a binder i fill slowly. Now, I have lots of other cookbooks, and many resources for finding recipies and storing and sorting them - cause it is a hobby, anyway. But the 'Magic Cookbook' gets only those recipies that Master loves most. This is a sort of service, to know what things he likes.
To many 'service oriented subs', the idea is to make Master's life easier, His home more comfortable, and generally smooth things over for him, as much as one can.
So, service can include any skill one is good at - bookkeeping, or typing. For my last Master, who loved to write stories, I proofread and provided feedback for all his writing.
In short, it means something differeant to everyone :).

no profile....

She's already addressed that in another post. Her original profile has developed one of the well known cme glitches and won't allow her to post.

And all subs aren't service oriented OP. I'm not and I am submissive. I do stuff because I love him and want him to be happy but I'm just as happy if I don't have to do the cleaning. And after five years of me proofreading his letters and pointing out (over his shoulder) what needs fixing, it's rare for me to have anything to do these days. He's learned what words he usually spells incorrectly and checks them himself.

But I'll take getting laid, thank you very much.

I suppose it depends on your personal view of whether or not any act that you authorise, is a 'service'. Now, I suppose it is in the sense that you will only authorise acts that are rewarding to you. Yet the term 'service' smacks of an arms length transaction, so perhaps that is a counter-argument.

There is an issue of valued 'service' - personally, I place little value on someone washing my clothes or cleaning my house, but I hold a good cook in high esteem. It follows thus you'll receive varying responses on the meaning of service in accordance with personal preference.

Ultimately, all that matters is that two people can fulfill one another's priorities; whether or not it is called 'service', is of secondary importance.
