It is a teacher that is the problem, they are scarce, like I said, the one I had, a confirmed feminist, has left the area.

I do.
But unless you give people the full information then they cannot make an informed judgement on your assessment.  It has nothing to do with women being insecure about themselves, it is the type of dance and the whole concept.  We aren't talking the chicken dance here or waltzing.  These are specific classes that can be deemed as sexual, even if that isn't the intention.  Regardless whether you are a safe option or not, it is their right to not have men infringe their space.  I have gone over the human rights issues about this with you before and I am not prepared to do so on the forum again, but your not giving the full info and therefore your thought of sexism cannot be correctly diagnoised my dearest friend.

I have not mentioned this dance to avoid prior judgement, I just wanted to find facts as they were without the mind being jaundiced by the fore thought of this in the west being predominantly a female orientated dance, something that Hollywood twisted for the masses, from a time when the lingering colonial mentality still viewed some countries and their ways as curios to be looked down upon.

The dance I wish to learn at a class, is Middle Eastern dance, as is performed by both sexes in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, and parts of North Africa, to most in the west, this dance is called Belly dance, a word taken from the french Danse du ventre. Interestingly in Egypt, the main place of practice, the belly has to be covered. Hollywood changed this.

Pity. I give ballet lessons.
My pas de deux creates quite a stir.

I never wear a codpiece. So vulgar !
I do enjoy the occasional fish and chips.

I also write ballet music.
My  opus magnum is called  entre une chatte avec mon bite  enorme. Written for flugal horn and washboard.

Yeah that looked a bit like synchronised prancing to me and didn't prove your case therefore in my mind, besides which I wasn't being serious anyhow, sometimes we say things for the ha de ha factor and aren’t making serious points about the dance skills of certain ethnic groups.

Try finding someone who will give private lessons. It's a bit more expensive, but of course you get one on one instruction. Once you have become an intermediate student you might have better luck entering a class. Students with more experience are probably more confident and would enjoy your presence more. Another thing to consider is that a female teacher may not know how to teach you to do a more masculine version of belly dance. The moves are a bit different, there is more strength and power. Maybe there are some belly dance videos for men?

Thankyou, I have considered private instruction, but being a student and the only private instructor in my area being forty miles away kind of negates that at the present, as I do not have transport. What I ask is for a class, because learning by video, is not quite it. I have been using the video method over the summer, that and learning to play the Doumbek drum, so I can be reactive to the changes in rhythm that is prominent in ME dance,( ME music is far more complex than western). As to teaching a male, there is no difference, the dance is the dance, how males interpret it is what males do, bearing in mind our physiology is different. Males dance more upper body than lower, as that is where our strength lies due to physiology, but myself, I do not know yet, as I am not the strongest of specimens. My power has always been legs, as I used to be a fairly serious cyclist.
