Democrats have also "stolen" elections. Subverted, etc. Not all the problems in this country can be laid at the Republicans feet.

Here're the accusation, and the analysis from today's NYTimes.  I watched Fox flog this all day long yesterday (Fox plays at work with the audio off.)
Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign on Friday stepped up its efforts to tie Senator Barack Obama to a community organizing group that has been accused of involvement in problematic voter registrations in several hotly contested states, including Colorado, Indiana, Nevada and North Carolina.

The group, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or Acorn, has long been a favorite target of conservatives. It made news this year when it was revealed that a brother of Acorn’s founder had embezzled almost $1 million from the organization but that Acorn had failed to disclose the theft for eight years.

“Barack Obama has made very inconsistent remarks about what his relationship with this organization is,” Rick Davis, Mr. McCain’s campaign manager, said in a conference call.Mr. Davis said Mr. Obama had worked as Acorn’s lawyer and conducted training events for its leaders. He also noted a payment the Obama campaign made in February to an Acorn affiliate, Citizens Services Inc.

While Mr. Obama did represent Acorn in a lawsuit in 1995, Acorn was on the same side as the Justice Department. The training events involved two hours of work. And the payment to the Acorn affiliate was reported in campaign filings, although they had to be revised because of an error.

The Obama campaign described the accusations as a spurious effort to tie Mr. Obama to potentially fraudulent voter registrations.

“Barack Obama strongly condemns voter registration fraud or any other breach of election law by any party or group,” Ben LaBolt, a campaign spokesman, said in a statement.

Acorn, whose political action committee has endorsed Mr. Obama, has said that the investigations into its voter registration work are politically motivated. “Rumors of Acorn’s voter fraud have been greatly exaggerated and to a large extent manufactured,” Bertha Lewis, the organization’s interim chief organizer, or chief executive, said Monday in a conference call to announce that the organization had registered 1.3 million people to vote.

Ms. Lewis said it was Acorn itself that informed state officials about some questionable registrations collected by its employees that are now under investigation. Acorn said it had terminated the workers involved.

In 1995, Mr. Obama was on a team of lawyers that represented Acorn in a lawsuit to compel Illinois to comply with federal laws intended to enhance access to the polls. The team also represented Equip for Equality, a group that promotes the rights of the disabled, and four individuals.

Mr. Davis said that as their lawyer, Mr. Obama had “an intimate relationship” with Acorn “against the State of Illinois and the federal government.” In fact, the Justice Department was on the same side as Acorn in the lawsuit, as were other organizations, including the League of Women Voters. Those plaintiffs won the case.

Mr. Davis urged reporters to question Mr. Obama about training sessions he had done for Acorn. “What were you teaching them?” Mr. Davis asked. “Were you teaching them how to evade the law?”

Lewis Goldberg, a spokesman for Acorn, said Mr. Obama conducted two leadership training sessions of roughly an hour each for Acorn’s Chicago affiliate over a three-year period in the late 1990s. He was not paid for that work, Mr. Goldberg said.Even before Friday’s conference call, Republicans had made much of an $832,598 payment made in February by the Obama campaign to Citizens Services Inc., a consulting firm affiliated with Acorn.

“This organization is not just related to but deeply ingrained in the Acorn organization, a front group for Acorn,” Mr. Davis said. The Obama campaign initially reported that the payment was for “staging, sound, lighting” and other advance work when it reported its expenditures with the Federal Election Commission. It filed amended reports in August and September to reflect that those payments were for get-out-the-vote efforts.

Mr. Davis contended that the original filing was an effort to “hide the fact” that money was paid to Acorn. But F.E.C. officials have said such amended filings are common. Citizens Services typically contracts with Acorn and its affiliates for work like that done for the Obama campaign. Mr. Goldberg, the Acorn spokesman, said that less than $80,000 of the Obama campaign’s payment to Citizens Services went to Acorn. Jeff Robinson, executive vice president of Citizens Services, did not return a call inquiring how the rest of the money was spent.

In 1992, Mr. Obama was personally involved in voter registration efforts when he served as director of Project Vote in Chicago, helping to register 150,000 voters on the South Side. His success was widely written about at the time and credited with helping to elect Senator Carol Moseley Braun, the first African-American woman in the Senate. Mr. LaBolt emphasized that Project Vote and Acorn were not as intertwined at that time as they are today, when a significant part of Project Vote’s revenues flow to Acorn and various of its affiliates as payment for services.

But according to Sam Graham-Felsen, who blogs on the Obama campaign’s Web site, Mr. Obama himself linked his 1992 work to Acorn in a meeting with Acorn’s leaders in November.

“Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drives in Illinois, Acorn was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work,” Mr. Obama said, according to a post Mr. Graham-Felsen made in February.

Acorn is a very real organization.   Believe it or not, I am studying about Barack's involvement with it.
Even it is true, I don't see how McCain can make a difference.
If only Barack had picked Hillary.  I would have had something to look forward to in the next four years.
No, he picked Joe Biden.

Regards, MissSCD

If only the democrat party had picked Hillary for the top of the ticket...that we would have a choice between
the better person in November, instead of the lesser of two evils.
The major difference between McCain and Obama is that one is a capitalist and the other a socialist.  Depends on where you want to see the country heading in the next four years.

And yes ACORN is very real...and very active in registering anyone that can get to a polling booth and register, and register, and register one more time!

I can use bigger words than fuck cory.

Words so big that you would need the Oxford English Dictionary and several advisors and a plethora of virgins to help you interpret the scathing quashing of your being, and it would take several months and you still wouldn't be quite sure what I meant.

But for the moment, let this stand...

Fuck Ja.

Obama is going to be our next president.  You work out what the fuck you are gonna do about it popsicle.

LOL, you can be as intransigent as you want about the fuckin' thing, but it is celerity in this milieu. (save you some dictionary time, it is as ubitquious as light exists in this world we live in, that  this will happen). So close to certainty, you won't know the difference between this happening and your first blowjob, pumpkin.

And once again, thanks for playing....somebody give this man a towel, he'll need it in his travels thru the universe.

The ACORN references were what led me to the link, because that's what I was reading up on. What surprised me was the New Party affiliation and endorsement. No one has commented on that.

Thanks to thornhappy for adding substantially to my picture of the ACORN connection.

Why should anyone dispair?  Just because someone no one knows other than he is articulte, is ahead in the polls
is no reason to assume the embryo position.  I will dispair on November 4th should such an inexprienced and socialist/liberal person be put in a position of power...a person whose philosophy of government is 180 degrees opposite the founding principles of our country, and mine.  Been here  before andt we survived.  Interesting time, eh!

I just want to know how Obama qualifies for a security clearance, let alone top secret Presidential with his background full of raging leftist radicals.

Frankly, I wouldn't want a President who can't even qualify for a simple "secret" security clearance to have access to all of our "go" codes.

Can you point out some of these founding principles that Obama is philosophically apposed to?

Specifically.

And while your at it,please explain why Bush/Gonzalez tried to get rid of Habeas Corpus?A concept, btw, written into the Constitution that predates the Constitution and inarguably ,a founding principal.

Can you square this contradiction ?

Mmmm, yes... voter fraud. Republicans have gotten really good at that game. I've already noticed that they are making whisper campaigns,  saying how if you have warrants for your arrest, you'll be picked up if you try to go in and vote... or that you have to have valid photo ID in order to vote... or if your name SOUNDS similar to that of a convicted felon, you will be denied your rights.

"How To Steal A Post"...change the subject...tsk tsk tsk...

The subject of this post was ACORN...not Florida politcs or other side issues.  To quote the young man from Illinois who is great with words..although he can't write any meaningful legislation, ALL of these topics from repulicans are DISTRACTIONS!

The man is a better comedy writer than Franken or Chevy Chase...Would be a great addition to the SNL staff
after McCain is sworn in this January.

With respect to the TOPIC, ACORN filed 5,000 "new voter registrations" in Indiana, half of them up to this point including dead people, the name of a fast food business like Tony Roma...(that's not the one) as a voter..and on and on.  The democrat Commissioner of the Board of Elections is appaled at the number of falsified applications, multiple registrations..etc.  And this is the group that the Obama campaign funded with over $800,000.  Nice people these politicians from Chicago.

Accusations and innuendo start flying whenever a campaign is in trouble, unable to compete head to head on issues. That means digging up whatever, blowing up as big as possible whatever else. That way, we can be sure to vote for people who will so play. Whatever.

The NY Times also reports on the difficulties McCain is facing:
Concern in G.O.P. After Rough Week for McCain

So there`s a few thousand dudds,.... with millions of good registrations.

What`s the percentage there? Way less than one percent at least.

That`s pretty damm good,performance wise.

Can you claim to be correct or accurate over 99% of the time, cory?

I don`t know of anyone ,including ACORN who wants to scoff at the law or break it.There`s no evidence of fraud being perpitrated.Accusation doesn`t equal guilt, especially when only cons are doing the accusing.

Personally,it would be more suspicious if they(or any group) got every single reg. correct. No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. That`s normal.

It`s the leap to Obama is trying to cheat, that`s the bull shit line here. It`s just election year politics and nothing more.

Neat debating point....You don't have to show any evidence that Obama has the qualifications to lead this country...although I totally agree that he is very capable of promoting "change"...so is a diseased cell in a healthy body.

What's the old saying..."if it smells like an elephant, is big like an elephant, has a trunk like an elephant...maybe it's an elephant!

I have not heard the name of anyone on Obama's Christmas List of a person who is not either a radical terorist,

like Ayers, a radical pastor, like the good Rev. Wright, a convicted felon, like Tony Rezko.  His stated mentors are the communist Sol Olinsky and, of course, the good Reverend, until he threw Jerimiah under the bus.

The man has written two memoirs, (but not much else in terms of legislation) and pretty much spells out his views.  What was the key chapter in those books that convinced you about the "leadership" qualities of this man?

Those of us who are trying to understand how people could be supportive of a man they don't even know find so convincing about this person...or is it strictly the horrible environment of today that creates this inner need to self-destruct?

Since when did having a background in leftist radical movements keep you from getting clearance? It didn't stop me from getting and keeping a TS/SI for my enlistment and getting it renewed more recently when I did some contract work for the feds.

BTW my background is actually in radical leftist movements not in progressive liberal movements that are only radical in Rush's odd view of reality.

I don`t think Obama is ten points ahead b/c of his qualifications compared to McCain.

It`s because of his positions on the most pressing issues, compared to McCain.

Got it?

Of course the cons will harp about their own concepts on qualifications, with the same energy that they run away from issues like Iraq,Afghanistan, the economy, regulation vs. de-regulation and the mortgage/credit crisis.

Basically,McCain is disqualifying himself b/c he wants to drive the ship over the falls,in spite of his years of experience.
