Okay, so no threads discussing this have popped up yet. So...

Yesterday on the campaign trail, a woman stood up to McCain, and started talking (like a good little GOP sheep) how she didn't trust Obama, how he was an arab in disguise...

And McCain pulled the mike away from her and began telling her that, "No, he's not an arab... he's a good, decent, family man... one whom I disagree with... but one you shouldn't be afraid of as President of the United States. I want to be President, and naturally, I don't want Senator Obama to be... but he is a good man, and would make a good President." Or words to that effect. I'm sure one of you will be kind enough to provide a link to the video.

Naturally, his supporters began to boo him.

Personally, I was dumbfounded! Suddenly, out of nowhere, as this "campaign" of his breaks it's chains and tears out of the lab to kill children by the lake and reek havoc in the villiage... suddenly the "Rove potion" wears off and we see the real McCain coming out again! It was a great moment to suddenly see the guy from the 2000 election make a cameo appearance in these last weeks.

But I also felt terribly sorry for him. You could tell, as he was admitting the truth about these lies and misdirections that the GOP has been forcing him to recite, you can see how pained he was. He knew that he was probably handing the election over to Obama at that point. That he'd rather lose as himself, than win as yet another candidate who had become the fear mongering, hate inspiring "Mr. Hyde."

Additional note: As of yesterday, one commentator noted that the McCain/Palin campagin was beginning to show similarities to that of George Wallace. McCain's people immediately accused the Dems of "fostering hate" against the republicans. (There's a twist! They spend the last week calling Obama a "terrorist" and insinuating that he is a muslim, but somehow it's OBAMA who is resorting to "hate speech.")

I'm not a McCain supporter, but he gained my respect by doing that. I can't believe his supporters boo'd him. The ignorance astounds me.

Well he hasn't regained mine....saying one thing when a rally starts going ugly on him ....while running ads that feed the very hate he is trying to tamp out is disingenuous at best....dishonorable at worst!

          I saw that clip as well, Bipo. He was responding to two separate audience coments. I appreciated it, as I'll get to, but it was a badly missed opportunity as well. There are plenty of good reasons to challenge Barack Obama on lots of issues. That would have been a very good moment to bring those up.

         As far as I'm concerned, the only outcome worse than an Obama victory, is yet another four years of bitter division, with half the population (maybe even more if the electoral vote goes bad) flat out hating the guy who made it in.

        He could have said it a lot better, but I'm glad he did.

       Oh yeah. Wanting a better understanding of where these radical leftists Obama palls around with, fit into his worldview is still fair game.

Do you have anything from a site with actual news credentials? Anything at all? Maybe a National Enquirer article? Something that isn't based on unsubstantiated opinion?

So far, all official statements from the Obama campaign have been calm, reasoned, and above the fray. By contrast, Palin and McCain have been the ones delving into this dark corner of hate speech. The whole point of this thread, Firm, was to acknowledge the fact that McCain realized this crap was getting out of hand, and it was an insult to his good name, as well as Obama's. Your continued attempt to perpetuate this BS is just dragging your guy down.

Frankly, I think the only real reason McCain pulled back on the "evil terrorist-loving muslim" rhetoric is because he wanted to defuse the BS so he wouldn't be called on it Wed. night. I.e., he's too much of a pussy to say such things in front of his target. From what I've heard, that's his usual mode of operation. He won't confront people directly. It seems he can only give "straight talk" about someone when he's speaking behind their back.

Wow, what a great unbaised source.

The reason McCain changed his tune is simple. His plan backfired. even elected officals started pulling away their support from McCain, for not acknlowledging and putting out the fire.

When McCains number get even lower (not a easy thing to do) he changed his plan. So once again he is "starting" a new campaign.

I met Professor Treacher (we called him Jimbo) when he was a third year research assistant at Thilly U. That was back in the spring of '22 as I recall. Of course back then he was still young & idealistic albeit a might too serious. As I recall, my main issue with him was his disdain for flappers. I never understood that. Cute girls in swirly dresses. What's not to like? Then the crash came and he spent years searching out grapes. I'm not sure why, just said something about purple toes and would walk away mumbling to himself. I'm glad to hear he's developed a sense of humor. I had heard that cons with a funny bone existed, but hadn't actually witnessed one, personally. Life is good.
