FR:

FYI, the Treacher piece is parody.

As I have always said, the further to the left you are, the less the sense of humor you have, unless it involves the murder or denigration of anyone with which you disagree.

As for all the other ramblings, and talk of "bloggers": each of the blog post was sourced.

As I said before: address the facts, not the source.

Not that I really expect that to happen, however, because the facts do not support the narrative that the left is advancing in this case.

You're the one pointing a big gun at people in your avatar, Kitten.  Would you describe your sense of humour as right wing?

Well he hasn't regained mine....saying one thing when a rally starts going ugly on him ....while running ads that feed the very hate he is trying to tamp out is disingenuous at best....dishonorable at worst!
My Name Is John McCain and I Approved This Message!!!!!!
I agree. Here's a letter (probably deserves its own thread) from an ex-evangelical preacher and friend of McCain's:

"
“John McCain: If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as ‘not one of us,’ I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence.

“At a Sarah Palin rally, someone called out, ‘Kill him!’ At one of your rallies, someone called out, ‘Terrorist!’ Neither was answered or denounced by you or your running mate, as the crowd laughed and cheered. At your campaign event Wednesday in Bethlehem, Pa., the crowd was seething with hatred for the Democratic nominee—an attitude encouraged in speeches there by you, your running mate, your wife and the local Republican chairman.

“Shame!

“John McCain: In 2000, as a lifelong Republican, I worked to get you elected instead of George W. Bush. In return, you wrote an endorsement of one of my books about military service. You seemed to be a man who put principle ahead of mere political gain.

“You have changed. You have a choice: Go down in history as a decent senator and an honorable military man with many successes, or go down in history as the latest abettor of right-wing extremist hate.

“John McCain, you are no fool, and you understand the depths of hatred that [surround] the issue of race in this country. You also know that, post-9/11, to call someone a friend of a terrorist is a very serious matter. You also know we are [a bitterly divided country] on many other issues. You know that, sadly, in America, violence is always just a moment away. You know that there are plenty of crazy people out there.

“Stop! Think! Your rallies are beginning to look, sound, feel and smell like lynch mobs.

“John McCain, you’re walking a perilous line. If you do not stand up for all that is good in America and declare that Senator Obama is a patriot, fit for office, and denounce your hate-filled supporters when they scream out ‘Terrorist’ or ‘Kill him,’ history will hold you responsible for all that follows.

“John McCain and Sarah Palin, you are playing with fire, and you know it. You are unleashing the monster of American hatred and prejudice, to the peril of all of us. You are doing this in wartime. You are doing this as our economy collapses. You are doing this in a country with a history of assassinations.

“Change the atmosphere of your campaign. Talk about the issues at hand. Make your case. But stop stirring up the lunatic fringe of haters, or risk suffering the judgment of history and the loathing of the American people—forever.

“We will hold you responsible."

And you still do not address the meat of the issue. You simply attempt to deflect attention from inconvenient facts that do not comport with your narrative.

Typical "reasoned debate":

"... I realise this is upsetting to you ...": Condescending, insulting.

" ... others feel no obligation to have this conversation on your terms ...": You mean a discussion based on facts, reason and logic?

" ... you will just have to learn to deal with that ...": Condescending, insulting.

" ... the Treacher piece actually struck me as par for the course coming from you!": Condescending, insulting.

[sarcasm]

WoW!

Your side can really marshal quite an effective argument, I must admit!

[/sarcasm]

Firm.

(And I'm the one who gets missives from Mod 11 because I'm "baiting, insulting, and trolling"?)

Obama Rally Turns Ugly:

Firm

I have watched enough rallies from both sides to doubt that account without video evidence.  I have seen Obama on quite a few occasions admonish the crowds for rude comments and boos towards McCain.  I have also seen Palin whipping a crowd into a frenzy and then saying "you guys just get it" following supporters saying "kill him" and "terrorist".  Seriously, this is like one of my ums trying to get out of trouble by saying "he did it too!" whether or not the other one actually did anything or not.

Firm,in order to have reasoned debate there must be reasonable people involved.....I can't carry a conversation alone....feel free to send the first reasonable right winger this way...if you can find one.

The OP and his immediate followup post basically says that the Republicans are the party of hate, and that McCain is fanning the flames.

My first two posts refuted both of his main points.

Nothing since has been part of any kind of reasoned debate on the original subject, other than Bita's post which was a humorous response to my 4th post. My 4th post was humorous, but was making a serious point that how you frame and report an event has an effect on the discussion.

Nothing you have posted has added either levity, facts, or logic to the discussion of the issues at hand. To the contrary, your comments deflect and insult, and are the anti-thesis to any attempt at serious discussion.

You are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Firm

Oh, but I am a true believer, Firm. I truly believe that Congress is full of corruption and greed, that the words politician and liar are fungible and that if you don't point out the crap, no matter where it lies,  you're very likely to step in it and then, yanno, you have to scrap shit off your shoes and that not only sucks it ruins a perfectly good pair of shoes.

Oh, and I have to say .. I hated Palin's trench coat (I mean, did ya hear the crowds boo that fugly coat!) that she wore to the Philly game but the shoes she wore to the RNC rocked.

Honestly, what could McCain-- have said differently!!! The old woman put him in an impossible situation. There is no possible way he could have agreed--not to mention its just NOT true.  Obama is American. Period.  He's lived here his entire life, he even went to Harvard, he's been in politcs for awhile. We don't elect foreigners to run our country, we never have, we never will.

The fact that McCain got booed for saying, gratiously, that Obama would make a decent president to counter her 'statement' -- shows how  "tense" this election is.  Often canidates say that the person they are running against is a good and decent person, but that they're better because (insert random politcal views).  I mean, there slight more subtle character attacks, but they aren't THAT blantant.  I think McCain handled the situation rather well.  I can't think of anything else that he could have done there--and still looked decent in front of the press.
