Well, I'm not obsessed with it and not about to pop a vein over it, but I think the polite thing to do is respond, provided the note was nicely written, and not some rude classless line. I don't reply to every single email, but if I have a brief a exchange with someone, or they take the time to write a nice note, I will certainly give them a "thanks but no thanks". Others don't feel it's necessary, and I can understand that too, as there are certain emails I WILL ignore. But for me, it feels more comfortable to reply to someone who has been polite and made an effort.

I don't feel compelled to write back to the people who send me used car notices in my real life mailbox telling them no thank you. And it's an equal non issue in a cyber mailbox.

I agree with Marie. If it's polite, I'll respond in kind, even if to say "no thanks." I have actually replied to the handful of dumb ones I've received, too... usually not so nice. The dumb ones that Daddy reads before I get to them, He answers. Those tend to be not so nice, too. [;)] I guess I'm pretty lucky that most people read my profile and respect that it says I'm not available. Either that, or they were just doing some general perving, without intent. I have lots of pervs, but most of the mail I get is from the crazies I know from this side. hugs the loonies wee typo

I have replied when the person was courteous and polite in their message. If it's a form letter type or they write nonsense, I delete message without replying back.

People on the P&ORS threads tend to be a little more subdued. It could be the familiarity with one another or it could be the ample supply of Prozac over here. [;)] This place tends to have less bloodshed with one another and things don't end in such a shitfest as they do elsewhere.

I also think it is a valid position: that the Internet is an inherently rude place. I voted "Both" so I can view the results without skewing them.
