I wonder McCain would have chosen if Obama had selected Hillary for his running mate?

lol.. Okay, hmm.. It would have to have been someone that was approved of by the pub base but also appealed to centrists. Maybe Mike Huckabee. He's safe for the pubs, not noxious to centrists, appeals with the good ol' boys in the south, brings him a whole state and, even though he's got a few family skeletons has basically behaved himself. He's not too bright, not too dumb, has a down-home quality and hasn't really pissed anyone off as far as I can tell. He's not, however, a darlin' and isn't cute or sexy enough to draw in the slut vote (which is way underrated by most folks!)

I would have a lot more respect for him currently if he would have just went ahead and picked Liberman

Word! If John had picked Joe, I would have bought 'maverick' hook, line and sinker. I wouldn't have voted for that particular ticket but damn, I'd be beaming with pride for such an awesome (puts on Tina Fey mask) mavericky pick!

Fun question. "what if, shuda, cuda, wuda".

I would guess McCain would have had to choose Sarah Palin, or someone with the same conservative credentials. McCain is not loved by the republican base and he needed to move his ticket to the right. Obama had tremendous momentum after the democrat convention and the Palin
nomination closed that down for awhile.  If it was correct we will only know in a few weeks.

Picking someone like Palin would have been even more important if Hillary was on the ticket since so many of us not in the Obamanation had come to respect her grit and passion, and she would have brought experience to the democrat ticket that Obama lacks.  Certainly, putting old Joe Biden who has been part of the "establishment" for thirty plus years was not the way to convert those independent voters still on the fence and who will still determine the election at this stage of the game.  I would guess that those people who are for Obama or McCain are basically in the bank for each candidate.
The race is still up in the air at the moment,  notwithstanding the hysterical rantings of the media  and others over poll results. In most cases the race is still within the margin of errors which is amazing considering how inept and apologetic a campaign McCain is running and, importantly,  how much of a runaway year it should have been for the democrat nominee.  Yep...I'm gonna lock in my final answer and go for it....Sarah Palin!

Cory,

Please get out some and stop watching faux news.  The republican base is the problem.  If McCain had just stayed true to himself rather than pandering to the ultra conservative portion of the party, I do believe he would have stood a much better chance of winning.  That pandering and Palin doomed him.

Could you please point to some of the "faux news" I look at?.....or does "faux" = "Fox"....
Why is it that you libs always come up with the same old attacks, name calling, and such but don't have to prove anything.   The "republican base" is THE problem for the democrat base....that's for sure.  It was also a problem for John McCain who got along better with liberal democrats than his own party until he put Sarah Palin on the ticket.
Americans who don't care about faux news, CNN news, MSNBC news..Rush, Maldow, et al..have a "clear choice this year".....A far left inexperienced, radical socialist whose friends are "out of the mainstream" to put it mildly, and include a guy who is a convicted felon and, on the other hand,  a conservative, right of center republican ticket with a far right VP that believes in capitalism.

It's really ironic that the Obama campaign sole attack on McCain boils down to painting him as another Bush!  I only wish he was...at least in some respects.  Probably should start a thread, "Is their life for the left after George Bush leaves Office".

Cory I am hoping you realise that is simply your take on the choice presented this year......You do realise a large segment of the electorate see the choice in a different light, don't you?

Funny thing, who is doing the name calling?  Please provide one shred of evidence any of this is true.  All we have is name calling form the republicans and the retort of "we are skeptical" or "it is suspicious".

Truth poor Cory whether you want to hear it or not.  That fanatical far right, ultra conservative, religious oriented portion of the GOP is not enough to get McCain elected.  The biggest mistake he made was not staying true to himself and pandering to them.  John McCain was always an honest man who seemed to try his best to do what he felt was right.  Something terrible happened to him during this process and he let himself be swayed into behavior that he always swore he wouldn't do.  He probably would have been better off to just let the far right pout and stay home as they swore to do on election day.

Your answer is no there will be no life left after "W" leaves office.  We has left a huge path of destruction in his wake.  Fortunately the Phoenix will rise from the ashes and we can all work on rebuilding this nation.

K

The problem with the Dem ticket isn't who they put on the bottom.  Hillary would have helped motivate the Repub base, but she would have locked in her own for Obama.  The need to pick someone "historic" would have still been in play.  Add the popularity (not) of the current administration.  McCain needed someone with no ties to Bush, and either other than caucasion, or lacking a penis.  He might have still gone with Sarah.

And Hillary would have destroyed her in the debate.

Aside from immediate entertainment value, that particular debate has no long lasting meaning. It will go down in history for 'the wink'. Apart from that... zero, nada, zilch. And Hillary will destroy someone else at a later date :-) .

That's because Biden had to stick to telling blatant lies that she didn't catch.  Hillary could have opened a can of something.
