If you go to Ask a Master, there's a thread by Mad Rabbit about what new doms should know. His op is very helpful and SimplyMichael's post on page 4 is spot on.

Lordi71 -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/13/2008 1:36:43 PM)

wouldn't say I am a beginner, this has all come form a discussion my mate and I had, and we ddecided that any 'laws' or 'rules' are completely open to opinion. Thank you though for yr responses :)

besides always good to spark a debate :)

SteelofUtah -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/13/2008 1:39:23 PM)

I think I know what you are getting at.

SSC which as you say means Safe Sane and Consentual is a set of guidelines for safe play but it not the only one.

RACK which means Risk Aware Consentual Kink is one that is used alot as the idea of how can one who is not in thier right mind determine if something is sane and how can one who has never done something know if it is safe. RACK is used a LOT in the leather community.

Neither are exclusive so I have made my own version.

KWYADACTGDB. (I am actually getting the Copyrighted) It stands for Know What You Are Doing And Close The God Damned Blinds.

So that you know a lot of people use SSC and RACK as blankets that they believe protect them from prosecution or arrest when in reality they are just slogans they really don't mean much of anything. Any time you Hit another person you are commiting Battery because NO state has a Consentual Battery Law and in Most States the State itself will prosecute you for the beating if the bottom or victim as they like to call it.

Now How Often does it ACTUALLY happen? Rarely. Most people aren't Stupid enough to beat the hell out of someone in a public place where it isn't expected like in a Dungeon or at a play party.

So as I said Know what you are doing and close the God Damned Blinds

yep there are debates about the analogies, whats safe? whats sane? differant people think differant things so there isnt a standard blanket answer, the rules then have to be use your head its not some alian world think dont rush into it and dont try to be anything other than who and what you are and whatever makes you happy (within reason)

DreamyLadySnow -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/13/2008 3:02:06 PM)

1. Informed consent
2. Recycle your toys, someone else may want to play with them later.

There are others?

MsAuthoritarian -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/13/2008 4:18:22 PM)

I won’t call them rules, simply some of the things I do:
1. Keep my CRP & EAD certification valid.
2. Invest in my play list, human behavior, human body and safety measures education on a continuous basis.
3. Practice items often that take accuracy to keep my skill level up and/or improve it.
4. Never rely on safe words.
5. Avoid SM when I am in a bad mood or drinking alcohol.
6. Communicate effectively with my play partners prior, during and after play.
7. Take proper care of my toys.
8. Balance my responsibilities with FUN!

I have been both Domme and slave, so I've gotten to live both sides.  If I were writing the rule book - LOL - these would be that very basics:

1)  Never expect submission until trust has been built, and never stop building trust
2)  Care as much about your sub's fulfillment as your own
3)  Communicate well and with meaning
4)  Never take a sub, or their submission, for granted
5)  Try new toys on yourself before trying them on a sub

MidMichCowboy -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/13/2008 5:57:46 PM)

Damn, see, I knew I was doing it wrong. I thought it was do what I want, learn to drive her body crazy and lose control at least once a week.

I wish they would hurry up and get that damn book published. I thought it was all about ... just being me.

persephonee -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/13/2008 6:19:06 PM)
