Lordandmaster -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/14/2008 2:28:35 PM)

The number-one rule has got to be: You're the top; you make the rules.

There are no "rules" -certainly not of the everyone-generally-agress-to-these sort.

Oh I'm not too sure..

1. Clean underwear.

2. No BO.

3. No skidmarks left on the bedsheets.

tweedydaddy -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/14/2008 3:21:45 PM)

3 rules of a top.

1 keep spinning
2 keep spinning
3 er that's it.

LadyPact -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/18/2008 9:24:09 AM)

OK.  If I really had to pick three.

1.  Don't break your toys.  If you do, you can't play with them anymore.

2.  Have empathy.  Remember, whatever "it" is, they are doing it not only for themselves, but also for you.

3.  Remember to love.  Give them space in your heart, even if it's just for the duration of the scene.

nicely said, LadyP :)

There truly are generally recognized sets of ethics, codes of behavior and rules within the BDSM community or we never would have bothered to define the difference between a Top, Master or Dom in the first place.

When you speak of SSC vs RACK, those are codes of conduct for BDSM in general.  They are not applicable to any specific role but rather the personal choice for a code of conduct for those choosing to participate in BDSM activities or relationships.

If your OP is looking for a general guideline of behavior, i.e. the expected "rights and responsibilities" of Tops as opposed to Doms or Masters, there is a nice little book called The Topping Book.  It covers what is generally accepted and expected from someone that carries the moniker of “Top”.   Below are links to amazon.com and the BDSM Book List thread here at CollarMe.

The Topping Book : Or, Getting Good at Being Bad
by Dossie Easton, Catherine A. Liszt
This is book was a very fun and informative read. It talks about the rights and responsibilities of the Top and what it is like to be a top. It tells you that Tops and bottoms are equals. Dossie and Catherine are always very good about including all genders, preferences, and relationships.

okay may be being a little blonde but, what are the agreed three rules of being a 'top' am sure its safe sane and consensual, but are there any others????

Never use "light" mayonnaise.

Raechard -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/18/2008 11:27:37 AM)

1. Nothing is above it
2. It is above everything else
3. Pointy arrows on the side of a box indicate it.

And that's a rule that can be applied pretty much everywhere in life. (I should remember that more!)

DavanKael -> RE: three rules of a 'top' (10/18/2008 7:55:11 PM)

I'm with Daes on RACK rather than SSC; RACK seems less judgment-based, more accurate, concise, and honest.
