Some people may have these inner desires - both Doms and subs - they may wish to explore this inner definition and online at first is a safe way to do it - they may not understand that those they are talking to are beyond the thought and want the real and so get swept along.... i think everyone needs the time to figure this out for themselves - some will ultimately take that next step into real life - others won't and sadly may screw with some heads.... which agreed is not entirely fair.... however i think as "we" become more self assured in what our own next step is to be it becomes easier to spot those that are standing on the brink of reality and fantasy....

sad thing is when 2 brinks get together online - one wants to jump off and the other grabs the rope and reels themselves back in.....

just my ickle opinion!

Well the fakes from Nigeria or Romania with model picture I dont even *count* they are just poor scams.

And I agree, it is difficult to find out if the other is what he/she describes. Normally chat helps and if some1s ad sounds "too good to be true" (like 18 year old supermodel seeks extreme 247 right away, any age, any place ), it certainly is not real.



 
Hang on, not done my bit yet

It's all about sex, a lot of guys out there want quick sex, maybe have someone at hand to participate.  Before my current Master, I had automatic radar zoning on these type of guys and fell for it every time. These guys have no incling of being a Dom whatsoever, it just isn't in them, although may be really nie people, but these are the guys who would cheat on their wives if they were married.  Kind of sad really.  Worse still, I kept finding these type of guys. 

Hmm, no BDSM, but lots of sex involved.   I once had to beg for a beating, I got a Tens machine instead which relaxed me awfully nice which resulted in a really good sleep.

Status: offline 		I've always thought adding that "no fakes..." clause to a profile is silly.  If someone is a "fake" he or she either doesn't know it, or doesn't care.

I doubt that a "fake" reads that and says "Oh crap!  I'm busted!  Next profile!"

Status: offline 		I generally avoid subs who talk about true or fake doms. I agree with DnD, more often than not, it is simply a pejorative and fairly close minded to boot.

Status: offline 		Isn't is really down to what you may be looking for? so yeah, a bit of fun and frollick, nothing wrong with that if that's what you're after, people are people at the end of the day, and I had fun with all my play pals, had lots of sex, no whips or chains, but the sex was fun.   I was really looking for a relationship rather than games, but while I was there, there was always time to play. 

Learned now of course.

Status: offline 		I think "playing" is fine, but if I meet with someone who calls themselves a Dom, I expect there will be a little bit of actual domination involved. I have met several Doms who really just wanted to get laid. I know there are plenty of different people out there and everyone has a different idea of what a Dom is. That's fine with me. I know everyone has a different idea as to what a sub is too. And not every person is a match for every other person. And I am way too polite to ever call someone a "fake" or "wannabe" to their face, but I have met a couple who have made me think they really had no desire to dominate anyone, they just wanted to have some fun, somewhat kinky sex.

Status: offline 		I've met with a couple of "fake" doms, who turned out to be married 'nillas looking for quick sex - after all, we subs will have sex with anyone who orders us to, won't we?!  Sheesh....

But seeing a dom with the words 'fake' and 'wannabe' in their profile acts as a filter for me - if you're so gullible and jaded to write this, then you're not the kind of person I'm looking for.  Next!

For example someone who claims to be an expert at flogging and then clouts themself with every back swing.
Someone who claims to be honest but is actually a big fat liar.
Someone who claims they are a pilot but they are actually a cleaner.

I would say the same thing but I call that a "liar" not a "fake."  Semantics I suppose.

Status: offline 		I hope it isn't too far down the thread for me to circle back and agree with littlemisssnarf.  I think a lot (definitely not all) of what people call fake dom/mmes & subs/slaves are people who are on their way to being real ones.  They just haven't figured it out yet or may have blinked at the last second.  Some people may need a few "near misses" & "false starts" before they finally hit their target and get where they are going (boy is that a jumble of metaphors!).  The path to "realness" is different for everybody and entails occasional failure.  I say we were all fakes before we were real.
