Under Bush we have lost the following freedoms:

1) The right to a speedy Trial, the right to know the accusations against you, and the right to counsel. (6th Amendment)  At least 2 US citizens were imprisoned without trial, charges or access to counsel during the Bush adminstration, which has claimed for the executive the right to declare any US citizen an "enemy Combatant" without review by any court, and thereyby the right to imprison them indefinitely without trial.  Also a vilatiion of being deprived of one's liberty without due process of laws (5th amendment)
2) The right to be safe from unreasonable seach and seizure. (4th amendment)  "National Security Letters" issued by the executive branch allow a search to be performed with out a warrant, and without any proof of probalby cause, merely on the say so of one member of the executive branch.  The Adminstration has also undertaken a vast dometic surveilance program that essentially scan all internet and phone traffic within the united states, again a vilation of the 4th amendment, wihc requires tht any search be with a warrant  "particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized" (also the 4th amendment)

3) Freedom of speech.  If served with a National Security Letter you are forbiidden to speak of it to anyone, even a lawyer to question it's validity.

4) Right to peacably assemble and also freedom of speech: specifically during Bush appearances across the country protesters have been required to limit themselves toso called "Free Speech Zones" (a rather Orwellina concept that) far from the president, and the press or be arrested.  In one case the "Free Speech Zone" was in a hanger hundreds r yards away from the event.  As one proester who chose to be arrested rather thencomply stathed "this is the United States, the whole country is a free speech zone".  In another case an attendee at a Bush town hall meeting was detained and removed from the hall, his only "crime"?  Having an anti-war bumper sticker on his car.

Those are just off the top of my head.  There are others, but I think these 4 quite make the point.  We have in the past 8 years suffered troubling losses of the fundamental freedoms that make this country what it is.  I'm a lot less worried about what Obama might do than what has been done by the Bush administration, policies that McCain and Palin have refused to distance themselves from.

Somebody had to bring up Chavez. Well them people seem to be doing OK down there, while we are not. Chavez has alot more popular support than Bush. That isn't quite a good example. Lessee, China, oh wait, they are in an economic boom. OK Saddam, nope, we bombed schools and hospitals, from where did they come ? Japan, I don't think so. Russia, hold on, how's the ruble doing right now ? Iran, no wait, the Iranian government buys gasoline and sells it at a loss so the people can afford it, why would they do that ? Our way is to tax it.

It might be better not to compare ourselves to other countries at this time. People will not like what they see.
