It's pretty crass and idiotic really.
The yahoo article doesn't give the full poster Phil and probably because of the reasson - it actually reads -  'there probably is no god, now stop worrying and enjoy your life'.
 
Yeah, 'great' freedom of speech - assuming the negative of a groups of people who have a non belief.  It's been a pretty heated debate here, as it was sponsered by the Humanist society and most humanists and atheists find it a pretty dire interpretation of both their belief and their life.  I pretty much agree with them.

..........saw this story on the CBC this morning.  Whether or not one is an aethist this seems to me to be a good example of free speech. How will this story play in the US?

.....that's as crass a statement as someone saying that all Christians are anti-abortionist nutcases. Just because some aethists mock those with faith doesn't mean they all do.

From the POV of free speech it carnt be faulted.
Whether a God exists or not depends upon what you mean by God.
How deep is that perfesser?

If you were to say ...
the probability is low that a God who has much concern for human beings exists...
then I would have to agree with that.
The only problem there is that it wouldnt fit on the side of a bus.Maybe that was God's cunning plan and he does exist after all.

The reactions would depend in part, on the location.  Different regions of the U.S. would likely have different reactions.  And the other consideration would be population size and density.  As an example, a small city in the South would likely have a different response than a large industrialized city in the North.

I see this as the functional equivalent to the Roman Catholic Church putting ads on the sides of busses saying, "Don't worry, Protestants are probably wrong. We had Peter!" Let your imagination run from there. This could be fun!
 
And don't forget to brush [theme song] with delicious, healthful, Atheist Toothpaste!

I don't really think a billboard on the side of the bus is really going to influence anyone, but it will attract the media that is looking for something to do to justifiy their existence, and it adds a few dollars to the transport company I guess.  I think the the athiests should change advertising companies...their slogan would have more
impact if it said "There IS no God" rather than "Their probably is no God"..

...strictly speaking, no. As the existence of God is neither empircally provable or not provable, any position vis a vis the existence of God has an element of belief in it.

Which is why agnoticism is such a hard position to defend, because it's the furthest away from belief available to me so far. I wouldn't dream of advertising it on the number 12 though [8D] .
