Anyone else get so used to calling Him "Sir"or "Master" that trying to refer to Him as your "boyfriend" seem at least a little awkward?

It's such an annoying thing. When around family or vanilla friends or co-workers I use the term but it always causes some sort of pause or 'uh', 'um', 'eh'. It just feels wrong >.> perhaps I could relate the feeling to calling a husband a boyfriend, know my meaning?

Of course its something you need to do ocassionally, but it doesnt make it any less strange, at least to me. lol

you could use "S.O." =p i'm not in a strict M/s relationship but i don't think "Dom" is always "situationally suitable" either
occaisionally i use "boyfriend" but i'm starting to like SO better

Well techinically speaking He is many things to me, not just Master.  He is my boyfriend, lover, friend, Master and lots of other labels.

I do sometimes stumble over how I introduce Him to others though, so I can relate.  I ran into a former coworker while we were in Walmart one day, and I stammered through an introduction  that left my Master looking at me like I was crazy.  LOL!  He said, ya know, if it's that difficult, you could just say.... "this is George."

Oh! I hate this! But, as we are in a committed, but unmarried state, I have yet to come up with a better term.

Sometimes I say the dreaded "boyfriend" and then ad, as a cute aside, "I hate saying boyfriend, but you can't really say Lord and Master in a casual setting." People smile and laugh, and think I'm kidding.  (sometimes I say "man who owns my heart" instead of "Lord and Master".)

for some incredibly bizarre reason, when this slave refers to Him as "The Most Wonderful Man Currently Walking Planet Earth", everybody knows EXACTLY who she is referring to...

yeah beth, but tell us what you REALLY think...

@Daes
*laughs* Insofar as boyfriend, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You'd think it gets easier being married... after all, mine could always refer to me as her husband. But see.... there's these pet names that we use all the time... And every now and then when she isn't paying attention, I get addresses as "bun" (we're both "bunny" to each other, don't ask).

... bun ...

OK, now THERE is a blow to my domly ego.

greetings to all,

I've always used his given name, or "my partner".  Neither has ever felt "wierd" or out of place.  If anything, titling him "Master" feels awkward, because it forces me to vocalise a concept that I am more comfortable with expressing via actions (if that makes sense).

Now, "my partner" has turned to "my husband" (we got married on October 15th).  The way I see it, "husband" is interchangeable with "Master" because, to me, they are one and the same.

well wishes,

Well he is my boyfriend. But I dont mind talking to him and calling him Sir in front of others. But i introduce him by his name. I told my son to call him Sir. Its a sign of respect.

Oh it just happens when someone asks if hes my friend.

I actually like referring to him as my partner, for me it makes more sense in a way.

just the term "boyfriend" (for me) has connotations latched onto it.

leadership - Aww thats cute ^^

I call Sir my boyfriend cause he is. He is also my partner and owns my heart.  For me its not weird at all and Sir calls me his girlfriend, so I'm guessing its not for him either.

I expect to be refered to as his girlfriend, since I am. I refer to him as my boyfriend, becasue he is. Now, if someone is not romantically involved in the relationship i can see how it would be strange, but all the partnerships I have ben involved with were at one point or another romantic, so I was either the girlfriend, or just a friend.

If I am calling someone "Sir"or"Master", I would consider the relationship to have eclipsed my idea of boyfriend.  Partner would be, imo, the least committed vanilla equivalent.

Omg!!! me too.... i sooo call Him "me Lord and Master" in a cockney accent...and people laugh.  i also call Him "The Boss", "The Man in Charge", "Big BossMan" in casual 'nilla situations.  i never say "boyfriend."  It's even hard to type.

I've never thought of Sir as my boyfriend... He's my Sir . When speaking of Him to other people I refer to Him by His given name. He on the other hand, has referred to me as His submissive girlfriend.

ehhhh...WRONG.  You are his fiancee...and he is your fiance...that sounds way better than "boyfriend or girlfriend."  Just sayin.....

Doug has a name I call him.  It sounds odd to me calling him Doug even.  We don't use Master or Sir.

Even telling others he is my husband feels odd.  I don't know why but it does.

My Sir asked that I refer to him as my other half... but to me that implies marriage... or at least a level of duration that we haven't yet reached.  I typically call him my friend and don't correct others when they call him my boyfriend.  It's kind of the same thing in lifestyle circles, though.  I call him Sir, but don't correct anyone when they ask me how my Master is doing.

As I understand it from him, Q's objection to the term "boyfriend" stems from the negative associations with the term that he acquired while involved with a previous sub (-ish... I can never think of her as a sub).

Our relationship has recently shifted from a friendship based M/s relationship to a love based M/s relationship.   Even in my head calling Him my boyfriend feels weird, kind of high schoolish in a way.
In my head and heart He is my Master, my best friend, my Love, my lover, and so many other things that i don't know if there could ever be one word to fully describe who He is to me.
