ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's largest newspaper, has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president.
The newspaper said Sunday the Democrat "brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand."
The Daily News said since the economic crisis has emerged, Republican presidential candidate John McCain has "stumbled and fumbled badly" in dealing with it.

Greedytop is always getting me in trouble…I will have all sorts of government agencies looking into my back ground.   The fact of the matter is  John McCain sided with President Bush, that there was no economic  problem in the United States until the socked Market crashed and his rich friends look like they where going to have to need public assistance from the Government. (for those not in the know…I am speaking about getting on welfare) that is when the light bulb went on and they said that there is a problem. The only reason President Bush help out was because his rich friends were losing money out of the ass. To lose 6 million dollars in one day, messed their minds up

Most newspapers lean way to the Left - even in Alaska. Liberal media bias is nothing to be proud of... they're just keeping people ignorant, doing us all a disservice.

Even here, the Idaho Statesman endorsed Obama, and Idaho has to be one of the most Conservative of all 58 states.

The Statesman is almost bankrupt too, as a result of alienating their majority Conservative readership.

LMAO!!!!...oh come on now!....I am just absolutely sure that is why newspapers are losing money EVERYWHERE...it is a Liberal Conspiracy to take over the world!
We liberals are slowly and insidiously invading the mainstream media...first the newspapers next FOX News will hire Tina Fay to be the main anchor done entirely in the character of Sarah Palin and completely with left wing slanted reporting.

McCain does not believe in abortion…I am tried of old rich men trying to tell me what to do with my body. These men allow for people who want sex changes to have them but want me not to have an abortion…….I think we should stop people from having sex changes if we want to stop women from having an abortion.

Think this through. Alaska is a solidly red state, Palin as Governor has an approval rating in the at least the 70's, and Alaska is trending McCain by a margin of 10% - 20%... hmm. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. The newspaper in question is out of touch with the people of Alaska or, in other words, is much further left than the population is.

I don't have a figure for "most", however, no one can argue Murdochs influence on the news and how it is reported. As for your question in another thread, yes,Virginia, there are conservative news anchors. Watch Fox News and you'll see plenty. Btw, Murdoch also owns Fox News, and The Wall Street Journal, and,  awwww, read the article, in case you don't know, or pretend not to.

When Reagan was president, there was an econimist who said it very succenctly. He said:
'The problem is, when you look at the current economic situation, the stock markets soaring, the unemployment rate soaring, people losing their homes, their jobs - but investments doing record well -
Well, it is obvious. Either the markets are crazy, or the people are. President Ragean choses to believe that the people are crazy.'

That pretty much describes W, as well. Until the markets fall, what's the problem?

taken from the article I originally posted:

quote:

The Daily News said Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has shown the country why she is a success as governor. But the paper said few would argue that Palin is truly ready to step into the job of being president despite her passion, charisma and strong work ethic.
"Gov. Palin's nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency — but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation," the paper said.
"Like picking Sen. McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time," the paper concluded.

that was the part I found most interesting.

According to you that is why Newspapers are losing money?...Nothing to do with cable news, the INTERNET, much faster news cycles, lack of advertising revenue due to better sources of advertising?....a bit too simplistic although, I am sure every newspaper in the USA would align themselves to the right if your thinking is correct.
Take a look at the proliferation of national media conglomerates like Gannet and why the individual publishers are selling papers as fast as they can. Has little to do with politics and has a lot to do with what drives their business. Papers like all business have to make money to survive and many of them can hardly keep staffing anywhere near it's old levels and must depend on the news services for their articles. In the next 10 years I would almost bet you that we will see perhpas statewide newspapers as opposed to city wide if they exist at all.

I like to read a newspaper, and I would take one every day but I refuse to subscribe to one (like the Idaho Statesman or the New York Times) that blatantly slants their "news" as a part of an obvious political agenda on their part. Even if I were a Liberal, I would feel offended at the way they treat their subscribers as if they are little children who can't be trusted with hard facts.

So yeah, I have to say it's a factor. At least, in my opinion, I'd have to say that more than likely it's a huge factor - it's crazy that you're even arguing this, we have the perfect example right here. Most Alaskans support McCain / Palin yet their newspaper shits on them by endorsing the empty suit Obama. He has no experience, she has some - yet they argue that SHE isn't qualified even though she is the bottom of her tickert and she is still more qualified than Obama is.

He makes as many gaffes as she does, and when you throw Biden in the mix the Obama campaign effectively becomes a bizarre gaffe machine. All of Obama's past associates seem to be felons or extremists, Obama is clearly a Marxist... he's against drilling, while most Alaskans are for drilling.

Yet Alaska's largest newspaper chooses to shoot itself in the foot by angering the majority of Alaskans by backing Barack Obama. I'd sure  like to know how many cancellations will ensue for that newspaper on account of this fiasco
