Ok...this is horrid and something that my beloved Master just pointed out to me. The population of Alaska according to the census in 2006 was 670,053 http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/02000.html , the population of Brevard County Florida as of 2007 is 534,359  http://www.bestplaces.net/County/Brevard_FL-OVERVIEW-41200900000.aspx , so effectively her Governorship is the numeric equivalent of being County Commisioner for Brevard County and LESS than the Experience of being Mayor of New York City with a population of 8,214,426 Living on the island of Manhattan in 2006 http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/36/3651000.html or Washington D.C. 550,521 in 2006 http://www.idcide.com/citydata/dc/washington.htm .

Please...say it ain't so Joe.... The Mayors of Washington D. C., Miami, Orlando, Tampa, NY, Chicago, San Franciso and other cities have far more experience than she does as THEY actually HAVE to deal with Foreign visitors and Dignitaries on a regular basis. Heck the U.N. in NY puts the Mayor in that position DAILY!

Sanity, wake up and smell the coffee. Newspapers are always either liberal or conservative on their Op Ed pages. That's not to say that either kind necessarily ( hopefully ) slant the objective reportage. I think that's usually not the case. However, they are owned by someone, often the publisher. Everyone on the editorial staff answers to the owner. It's no surprised that the owner's views and politics are reflected on the Op Ed pages. After all, it's their right, be they Rupert Murdoch or whoever. Free speach, free press.

If you want to hear/read only the conservative point of view, that's your choice and priviledge and right. No need to rant about the papers that reflect the opinions of those different from yours.

Sanity I agree with you...it seems all the conservative newspapers in this country have gone out of business. We had a good conservative newspaper here in St Louis.. I liked it but it went out of business.....I wonder why?

It does seem that the media in general has a liberal bent...maybe like I have said in the past...the media has to reflect the political position of its customers...over time anyway.

Over time we have been a liberal  leaning country.

Hey, Butch...news flash ! Since 1980 when Reagan came to office, this has been a conservative leaning country. Now, after the policies that the conservatives have brought to fruition have born fruit, we are involved in two wars, the US is the largest debtor nation in the world, and we are on the verge of a depression that their "free market/no regulation" policies have wrought. The pendulum always swings, back and forth. Your bos have been fucking things up and getting super rich in the bargain long enough.

I'm not writing about the Op Ed pages, cjan. If you don't see the media bias in the news itself then you're in a very slim minority:

quote:

Voters overwhelmingly believe that the media wants Barack Obama to win the presidential election. By a margin of 70%-9%, Americans say most journalists want to see Obama, not John McCain, win on Nov. 4. Another 8% say journalists don't favor either candidate, and 13% say they don't know which candidate most reporters support.

A separate study released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism looks at the media’s recent campaign coverage and finds that McCain received significantly more negative than positive coverage between the GOP convention and the final debate. The study says that press treatment of Obama has been somewhat more positive than negative, but not markedly so. [See "Winning the Media Campaign" released October 22, 2008.]

Don't know which country you live in but in my country since I've been alive there have been 23 Democratic congresses and 10 Republican. That says the majority of people in this country voted Democratic.

Sanity,

You do realize that it is not a left leaning media, or a right leaning media... it is a corporate leaning media... which is why Obama is able to buy so much airtime... This election season he is the one with the mulla.... so he is the one with the megaphone, and all those ads he is buying may just be getting him preferential treatment. I do want to add, part of McRage's problem is image, he just sucks in the presidential looking department. Fortunately for America Obama has the brains to back up the look... he is not an empty-headed plaything like Reagan.

Now I know this pisses you off, that the American people donated so much to Obama and that OUR free speech was heard for a change, instead of Big Oil and Big Pharma... but I would suggest you learn how to suck it up like I have had to for 8 years. I quit watching TV because Bush made me wanna vomit, now it is your turn

Riiiiight, ok, now I get it, the Dems arem by definition "liberals" while the GOP is, by definition also, "conservative". And, even if that were true, your math doesn"t add up. Well...thanks for clearing that up for me, Butch.

Some examples of this slant?

If they are so blatant,it should be easy to show us some.

The paper had it pretty correctly. She`s a good politician and a successful governor, but not presidential timber.

Sounds like cons want a paper to agree with them,or they lean left.

That certainly shouldn`t be the criteria for deciding a paper`s leaning.

Sure it does...remember congress changes every two years check it out...I am just older than you maybe...hell I'm older then most sad but so.

I'm not much for labels either but it seems most others are so I guess most associate liberal with democrats and conservative with republicans…Am I wrong?

Remember Al Gore?   He won the popular vote, but lost the electorial votes.  This makes me think about him losing his own state Tennessee.  If Palin loses Alaska, well she is in deep trouble.
Interesting note.  Thanks for putting on the board.
She was in Ashville today.
If she can carry North Carolina with all the corruption that state has, I will be impressed to say the least.  South Carolina is always republican.
She must use a lot of hair spray.
