I am just wondering. When Meeting a Mistress for the first time, would it be a good idea to bring a gift? I am not talking about money dommes, or anything like that, but bring some flowers, or something that she will like. Just wondering terri.

A token of appreciation is always nice, but certainly not necessary in my opinion.

I think it's charming. My boy gave me a set of handcuff keys on our first date. Not big... just symbolic.

That's really kind of sweet, but to me it would come across as pushy, unless this was someone I already had a friendship with via phone or net.

I'm with you, LadyH. Anything more than flowers or a small box of chocolates would strike me as presumptuous, unless we'd had an ongoing long-distance relationship of several months prior to the first meet. I don't accept more substantial gifts from someone unless I'm in a committed relationship with him.

Would you bring flowers or chocolate for a woman on a normal "vanilla" date? If yes then do it, if not then don't. It personally doesn't matter either way to me. It's cute but not needed.

My subs would take me out for coffee or a meal for our first meeting and they would pay for mine. I thought that was a very nice gift. I did have one sub I never met send me a dozen roses out of gratitude for all of the time I had taken with him online. I would never expect anything like that at a first meeting, but a single carnation or something similar would be a nice touch.

if you are able to find out her favorite flower, it would not only be seen as a nice token, but also as a sweet submissive gesture that you took the time to find her favorite flower not just what ever they had ready made. not a huge dozen roses type of thing, just a simple flower or small bunch, something sweet with out expections.

i agree, if you'd normally do something, a little gesture like a rose or whatever, that would be nice. otherwise, just be yourself, don't try to be something or someone you're not. PM

Yes, a small gift is a great idea. It shows that you have already given some consideration to pleasing her. A small bouquet, chocolates (not Russel Stover or Whitmans though - ick), a new crop perhaps, a package of clothes pins - keep it small and try to make it personal Some of the things subs have brought me - toe rings, a quirt, shoes, stockings, socks, movie scripts, books, mix CDs, home made brownies, a rock, bubble bath, perfume, a Starbucks card. Each of these was received with pleasure and did, indeed, earn them brownie points.

A rock? Now there has to be a story to that one! Like the handcuff keys... It sounds sort of silly out of context. However, I had complained that I had been given (more like a very extended loan) a set of old, official police issue handcuffs for a photo shoot, but the keys were long gone. My Westie has a relative who was a police officer, so he brought me a set of keys. The cuffs are so old and rusty that the key doesn't work reliably on one side, so it's still not a good idea to use them. But it was such a sweet thing for him to do that I now carry one of the keys on my key ring... just as a reminder.

Giving is a positive thing and earns brownie points for me. Gifts from subs on a first meet: The best set of cuffs I've ever seen. [8D] Healthy food to prepare here by them for a nice dinner, a really nice set of floggers, pavers, plants, organic coffee, lotion, good wines, coffee out, meals out, flowers, rope, and a funny one: A gag! (That was a sub who knew they needed a gag or duct tape so they could listen more efficiently...) themselves: the best gift of all. This is after online including plenty of good yahoo and phone conversations, or referrals from Dom/me friends, and/or subs I met for the first at munches. You are wooing a particular Domme who is a woman first and a domme second, so gifts or not would become clear when you communicate with her along the way before your first meet. Ask what she likes/needs in the moment, or make a few notes as you begin to know her as a person. imo, of course. ME

Just make sure that you know enough about her to not make a huge booboo with your present. Someone once mentioned that she recieved a single lily - for me, that would be a horrible mistake, as I seem to be more allergic to lilies than any other flower. If she is trying to lose weight, chocolates - even a small box - would probably be a less than stellar idea. A book isn't a bad idea, as long as it's a topic/style/author that she likes. If someone bought me a history book, it had better be history before 1500 ... after that, not so interesting to me. If she likes biographies, you probably don't want to buy her a sci-fi book. I think, as someone else said, that if you would normally do so for a vanilla woman you are going out for the first time with, then you should do so for a Domme as well. It is a nice, sweet gesture that you appreciate the time she is taking, and that you have enjoyed the conversations that you have already had with her (assuming, of course, that you have talked with her online or on the phone before).

Honestly, handpicked flowers would give the guy a bigger bonus than buying flowers ... that shows an effort that buying flowers doesn't quite show - and money doesn't matter to us as long as he does have a job ... so handpicking some daisies would give us a MUCH better impression than a huge bouquet of roses.
