Now this has been bugging me for a while, George Bush's war on terror, what exactly is it ? Is the war on terror an actual war, or just a convenient excuse ? So instead of going about the globe killing people that fit certain criteria, is there not an easier way to fight terror, is killing the only way, or are there other ways ? What causes a person to become a terrorist ?

I seem to recall that the USA has not declared war at any time during the past two hundred years? Them USA governments always say they are conducting a police action or something like that when they invade a country and massacre its citizens, not a war.

The USA is full of terriosts. If you dont belive me go outside this friday night. I don't think the netherlands are capable of invading the 7-11.

If I remember, there was a little disturbance in Europe some years ago. You're probably right though, we should have stayed out of it since you folks were doing such a wonderful job on your own.

It depends on where you look if you want to consider something a war. I personally served in the first Gulf War..I do believe we were told it was a war. Anyway if you look at va.gov who should and should not know what a war is. You find out we've been in many. Of course, yes I do know they call them conflicts. I also believe when the current war started many of us believed Georgie started it to finish what his father did not. We did not believe they were hiding Al Quida or anyone else. I was there...I saw the sanctions put on that country. I don't believe we really want Bin Laden. If we did we would have taken him out long ago. Just like we didn't want Saddam in 91. He would have been vaporized if we had. A terrorist...I really don't know other than hatred. I know we breed many of our own in this country. What would happen if say...a terrorist came to our soil to be tranined..and he/she fell in love with our country? Would they be reformed and no longer attack us or would they still do it out of loyalty? If you're Obama you believe there is another way of fighting terror. You go visit them in their fox holes and order up lattes for everyone. Reason with them on their hatred.

You would be correct and for the REAL constitutional constructionist, but only our 'wars' since WWII have been...unconstitutional. The war on terrorism does NOT exist, Al-Qaida (a wholly CIA concocted term) does not exist as a worldwide network of terrorists but we got 3 years of unmitigated bullshit about it. It was only after Bush used the term to find a handy culprit for 9/11, that any Arabs picked up on it. Wars are used to create fear, rally a country around it 'leaders' and ultimately for profit. Viet Nam, and now Iraq was and is to be perpetual. Example: A very successful Bush fundraiser just as we invaded Iraq formed IOTC. The Internation Oil Trading Corp. Why we needed a new middle man to get oil to our forces and in a country rich with oil...is beyond me BUT... This co. has 'brokered' $210 million of oil to our own military and made $70 million in profits. Look at Haliburton, CACI, Carlyle Group among many others and you see what...profits, profits and more profits.

I'd say the "war on terrorism" is much like the "war on drugs" or the "war on poverty". I think it's all political and rhetorical BS.

Good post, DK. You always supply the required facts. Well done. Hm, no declarations of war since 1942... So would it be accurate to say that though the USA did declare wars during the past two centuries, they never started a war, but always declared war in response to war? (Question not addressed to Dom Ken specifically.)

Uncle Nasty Well, I'm not sure if you are agreeing or being sarcastic, but the term is used as a noun, adjective, and adverb with the definition being basically the same.
