A quick thought- I sleep different in different sized beds. When Master and I sleep together in a twin, I don't move more than a few inches all night long. When we sleep in a King, I wake up sideways or upside down or on the complete opposite side from him. Maybe you have too much room?
However, the gurgling you mention sounds a bit like sleep apnea to my untrained mind...a sleep apnean (?) will momentarily stop breathing, which might not be noticable to him or his partner, and then breath deeply to recover. It's not like you stop breathing for minutes at a time (maybe, if it's severe, but not usually), it's like a hiccup in your regular deep breathing pattern. Gasping would be the way your body would recover from the breathing hiccup.

Could be a dust mite allergy. Try taking antihistamines and see what happens. Tylenol PM has Benedryl in it, and if that helps then probably it's an allergy. Take two otc Claritin daily and see if you sleep better after two weeks on that. Get hypoallergenic mattress and pillow covers and see if they help. Wash pillows, blankets, mattress pad in hot water at least once a month.

Sleep apnea is less likely to be the cause than allergies. If an antiallergy routine doesn't help at all, then it's time for a trip to the doctor.

I suffered from insomnia for months. Tossed and turned so bad that I would strip the fitted sheet off the bed. I took 2 Tylenol PMs every night for two months.

We finally found a whole food based liquid vitamin. Among the 175 ingredients is Tryptophan. After about 10 days of taking it, I noticed I had started sleeping through the night. Without the groggy mornings caused by the Tylenol PM.

not a master either, but maybe try "sleepy time tea" it works great.  OR, maybe give HER a sleeping pill and you toss all you wish

Do you know what sleeping aid would be good Steel? Like, a brand name or anything like that?

Valerian is an herbal sleeping aid and very inexpensive.  I've only needed it a few times and had no side effects except pretty vivid dreams.

Hubby used to snore a lot but it stopped when He started sleeping partially sitting up to ease His hip pain.

I second valerian root as a sleeping aid. Melatonin works great and so does Tylenol PM but neither should be taken nightly. Look for a herbal sleeping aid at a whole foods or something that contains ingredients such as, Valerian root, Passionflower, Kava Kava, and Hops.

I have one that is called Sound Sleep, I dont take it often but when I do it puts me out- I fall asleep softly and soundly, and wake up nice in the mornings, not groggy at all!

Melatonin from Wal-Greens works well I like the Purple Lid one.

...

The Melatonin is about as Natural as you can get because it is a Chemicle the body naturally produces it just doesn't always produce enough for whatever reason. If you plan on using it all the time I would go with the Melatonin and give yourself about three weeks to notice a serious change.

Take Care.

greetings A/all

if You do choose melatonin - be prepared for some seriously weird dreams, even nightmares, for the first few weeks you use it.

antipode -> RE: I keep my sub awake all night. Not in the good way. (11/3/2008 12:00:10 PM)

I'll give y'all an example that actually happened to me. My second marriage, my wife began complaining that I woke her up fidgeting all the time. We couldn't figure out why. Completely accidentally, we eventually found out that I had developed a medication caused (which is why it crept up on me) skin allergy, that made me not only allergic to her hair, but even my own.

All I am saying is that there can be weird causes, that you wouldn't think of. With medication and me slicking my hair back into a ponytail, it eventually subsided.

VampiresLair -> RE: I keep my sub awake all night. Not in the good way. (11/3/2008 12:08:47 PM)

If regular Valerian is too strong, try Valerian tea. I used it every day for weeks and had no effects.
I also use something called Midnite from Walgreens. It is formulated to be taken in the middle of the night if you wake up and still not knock you out the next morning.
You mgiht want to consider changing the filter in your AC or moving the bed away from the window, too. You might have some minor allergies that sleeing with your head near the AC or window is aggrivating.

DesFIP -> RE: I keep my sub awake all night. Not in the good way. (11/3/2008 12:17:21 PM)

Don't take valerian if you need to be drug tested for work. It shows up. If you have a doctor's scrip for it, that's fine but without that you could have troubles.

Oh yeah, and what antipode said... bringing medical questions to a BDSM forum... well... *laughs*

Well, I'm glad this thread came along. I'm trying to figure out a more efficient sleep regimen and it's been interesting to read other's thoughts and experiences.

Schmerzmeister -> RE: I keep my sub awake all night. Not in the good way. (11/7/2008 7:18:08 AM)

I find two fingers of Balvenie and a waterbed works wonders for transient insomnia when my sub isn't there for sex before sleeping.  However, I did a sleep study some years ago and made some behavioral changes (meal times, stress management, etc.) that are probably the biggest key to a good night's sleep.

MasterHypnotist -> RE: I keep my sub awake all night. Not in the good way. (11/12/2008 5:23:32 PM)

After a doctor and you have ruled out something medical (or maybe even if there is) get into your phonebook and call local hypnotists. If they share something along the lines that they help clients discover the emotional cause to their problem, you've probably found a good resource.

Yeah, I'm biased,

Lavender is great for a solid nights sleep. You can get it in oil form from a health shop.

natasha66 -> RE: I keep my sub awake all night. Not in the good way. (11/12/2008 5:35:33 PM)

If it's not due to a medical condition, i would second the "Midnite" idea....any drugstore has it.  Or Sleepy Time Extra tea (has valerian in it).  I'm not a huge fan of Tylenol PM....hate feeling groggy in the morning.

thedavezone -> RE: I keep my sub awake all night. Not in the good way. (11/14/2008 11:43:32 AM)

You may need a new mattress.  At least flip it over every six months.

Try ear-plugs, try different temperatures, get a sleep study - you may have sleep apnea.

And there's nothing wrong with separate beds - you CAN have them both in the same room you know.
