I don't know, but I wish I could find someone too, or figure out how to do it myself. I was looking at videos last weekend too as I was preparing for my Halloween costume. I did the best I could but my makeup looked all smudgy and kinda freaky (and not in a good way).

I know of one person in particular who takes a look (often from celebs) and teaches you how to do it.  She makes it pretty approachable, so while you prob. don't have her products you could learn the concepts and work with what you have.

All you have to do is learn Photoshop... that is what you were watching

YouTube user Panacea81 has some great and easy tutorials to follow.  She does quite a bit of the bright, out there looks.  With practice most women can eventually do it themselves.  Also, and I know this sounds snobby, but Mac make-up is the shit for dramatic looks.  After I bought my first fuchsia pigment, I'd never go back.

YHMA, Sometimes Macy's at Arden has a free facial / make up deal that you can sign up for. The make up artists teaches you what and how to apply as she is doing it. Then of course she talks you (er...me) into buying hundreds of dollars of product, heh.

People really do, do make up in those styles, that type of makeup is not fake. If that's what you're implying by photoshop comment.

I can do that. OK, the multicolor lips were probably photoshopped, but I can do the eyes and all no problem. On someone else. cant do my own for anything

Please I'm not putting anyone down or calling them liars...PP is standard procedure today.

I don't know about what you have seen in the past...I am only talking about those particular movies.

All makeup is fake...lol... much of your Youtube move is photoshoped...I've done it for years...I could cut shots and post the mistakes...how they did it… where they messed up. There is nothing wrong with doing it...Every single glamour photo is enhanced today before published.

Some of the movie is real… but a good part is not… all has been enhanced.

Lip gloss and color has been digitally added and enhanced… all skin has been dodged and burned…lashes have been added…on and on.

alot of the make-up artists that do the fantasy looks, use airbrushes, it allows a much smother application. The last time I had mine done for a special event that is what they used. You might want to contact a local theater group or such, thats how I found someone to do mine the last time.

Hi there! Thanks for the vote of confidence, puella!  :) I am a makeup junkie, that's for sure.  I am still a novice though and have never worked professionally in the MUA field except for a short stint in the late 80's for Lancome.  I am working on expanding my current cosmetic collection to include some better foundations for photography purposes as well as more highly pigmented colors for dramatic looks.  As it stands I have just a few MAC pigments but they are pretty incredible. When it comes to the youtube videos, a great many of those images are post-processed which is the norm in the modeling/photography industry.  Genuinely flawless skin is a rarity and post processing can help to correct that as well as correcing color balance, hue, brightness, etc. There are some who can apply makeup (and make it look completely realistic) with photoshop alone.  It is a difficult thing to do but possible if you have crazy-uber-good photoshop skills.  I'm not quite there yet lol. Below is a link to a few examples of what I've done.  Some photos are post-processed, others are not.  A few are even just webcam shots.  I use this page as a sort of amateur portfolio when people are interested in having their makeup done (or photographs) http://www.moonspheres.com/makeupart/ Are you looking to have makeup done for an event or for photography purposes?  Or are you looking to learn the application itself?   Well wishes! Cav's ally

Celene.. I dont have the wings anymore.. I left them in NY *sigh* (They were shedding feathers, anyway.....)

You aren't going to find these looks at the Wal-Mart or Rite-Aid.  These are high grade theatrical make-ups.  The right tools make the job a lot easier.

Ben Nye makes very good stuff.  Don't try to skip the setting powder.  You can download the catalog from the website.

allyC -> RE: Where can I find someone who knows how to do makeup like this? (10/31/2008 12:34:16 AM)

Awww shanks!!!  Trust me, the makeup helps a LOT!!!! As for where to find the cosmetics, Ben Nye is good but there really are some Walgreens type cosmetics that are quite good.  There is one wet n wild pencil that nearly every professional MUA I've ever spoken to keeps in their kit.   Brands I recommend for high pigments are:  Smashbox (they make excellent primer too), MAC, Lorac, and believe it or not, L'Oreal's HIP line. As for foundations for photography, I recommend RCMA and Cinema Secrets for photographic purposes.  I use L'Oreal True Match foundation for nearly all of the photos but I do use a green-based primer and apply my foundation with a brush.  Sponges soak up too much product and fingertips are good but don't get the coverage that a good foundation brush will give you. Hope this helps! -Cav's ally

If I ever get out that way, I'd love to have a makeup session.  I love girly stuff even though I still have a raging tomboy living somewhere inside of me.  hehehe :)
