Because there is no proof, just the human desire for mystery. In the same way Däniken would have „proved“ some years ago when that kind of thingswas in that it was al a work of an alien civilization. The attitude is wrong as one is looking for something mysterious at the first place, builds up a theory and than in such a biased mood looks for evidence (and that if he personally believes it at all and it is not just trying to making some money), usually constructing theories without a sound proof.  Only in the last 15 years or so that I'm paying attention to all this stories (was to young before that) so many theories become popular and got forgotten over time, it's like cheep „one season“ music hits, noting substantial but tickling the imagination enough for people to want to believe it and for the authors to make some money on that.

Let’s take another example. There is a village in France on the ex Cathar territory. There was a priest in that village that overnight become rich but started behaving strangely. A theory developed in time that he found some secret Cathar treasures (some started to mention the Grail of course :D ) and mysteries and this very legend become one of the basis of the today’s „Code“ type of theories. Hoverer there is an even more mysterious and secretive theory in the same village between the very villagers themselves.  It tells us how the priest was manipulating with the church money and how the owner of the local restaurant later lunched a myth about all that to get more customers. Of course no one of us here can be 100% sure, but though it is more in believing in secret knowledge, historical complots by the powerful to conceal it and so on the second version is still much more probable. So when we believe the first one it is because we are looking for fairytale stories and want to believe, not because there is that much reason to believe it.

Geometry was just an example, it is the same with almost all aspects of this type of theories, if it was not so it would be in the history books, not where it is ;)

As I told you only in the small region where I live there are a lot of active or semi demolished churches, pre-Christian sites, temples, remains some prehistoric or pre-Christian hill forts that in some new age theories also have a „secret function“, remains of Ilirs, Slavs, Romans, Venetians, Francs, Austro-Hungarians and so on. With a map I can draw you any kind of pentagrams, crosses or whatever you want selecting some of them for making such connections. There is absolutely no proof of anything like that. Nothing like a document, a drawing on the wall.. anything that would tell us that they had a plan in building it within such parameters... And if we dive a little deeper I suspect we would probably found that the they were built at different times, by different people and so on. There is nothing more plausible in this theories than that guy that was seeing pyramids, big artificial canals and the like on the Mars. He had pictures of the planet, he wanted to prove something and by looking so much at the available at the time maps and pictures of the planet from his strongly biased position he started actually seeing it on those pictures.. fortunately in time we developed better instruments and recently even have pictures from the planet and for a long time now no one is taking this guy seriously, probably few remember him now at all... but at his time he was one of the typical „mystery theorists“.

It's just a lot of imagination.

But what a poor species we would be if we did not have imagination.

It is imagination, the ability to dream that makes us move forward as a species.

But our past, there are so many facts that have been manipulated and squashed for the politics of the time, people know this and some want to know, it is their right to search for the answers to their questions if there are answers to be had and no one will ever know if attempts to find out are not made.

Because something has not yet been found or revealed, it does not mean it did not exist.

For some, dreaming is hope.

Maybe but one should not try pass that as a fact any more than the Santa. It's OK for a child, but when a grown up can not see a difference between fantasy and reality sooner or later he'll get in trouble (with the „ugly“ world, with the manipulative cult leaders or whatever). We have the need for the mystery but we also have the reason and discrimination ability to check where this need will be directed.   Search of the answers and of the past is not done in a world of imagination but in the world of the facts to the best of our abilities, possibly by combining more independent sources abut the same event. Fantasy theories are not a search for the truth but a projection of our imagination on the outer world.

as I understand it, science is moving towards a somewhat similar conclusion...that all humankind shares common ancestors.

Well, now, perhaps, but the Neanderthals were a separate, less successful branch.

Only until people like Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair came to power, then they found a new future as Cabinet ministers and managing things like the NHS, the Inland Revenue and the Department of Work and Pensions.

Drop Genesis. Read the book of Enki. If you want truth, then this is what to read. Precedes Genesis by 1000 years.

Did dragons exist ?

None have been found, but the world over has a past belief in them as demonstated in all kinds of literary and figurative works. Works by their very nature that were crated by learned men.

No skeleton or fossil remains have yet been found, so it is fair to say they remain a possibility until  proved otherwise. Who knows what nature has created in the past, science has already revealed some pretty strange creatures.

That being so, what other possibilities might exist, perhaps the vedic texts, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Rig-veda, the Yajur-veda and others also refer to the fantastic, but might not be so fantastic given our present technological age. I believe NASA is now examining these texts.

Until proof is found against, there are so many possibilities.

Having read many books on the subject, and many on related issues over a period of the last 15-20 years, I would have to disagree with you. There is a great deal more than "imagination" at work. Perhaps the final reality of what is going on is not yet known or understood, but there is much more to the story than meets the eye. Apparently it's not something that interests you enough to do anything more than watch an hour of TV on the subject, so why are you debating it?
