Healthcare plan that works == contradiction in terms.

How about some facts proving otherwise, and not just an opinion ?

You're passing the risk to the insurance company, which does not equate to a bet. In fact, passing the risk is a risk averse stance; betting is a risk seeking stance, of course.

...let's see, decent healthcare for all obviously reduces the chance for people to fail catastrophically.........people failing catastrophically is a good way of making those who succeed look even better........societies need to reward success more than they need to mitigate failure.....therefore anything that helps people avoid failure is bad. i think thats something along the lines of CL's thinking........either that or he read WAY too much Nietzche......

I don't know why anyone would not want a national health care system since we have become nations of people who are unable to fend for ourselves and leave much of our administration of almost every activity of our daily life up to our governement as is.

A healthy nation is a happy nation.  Not to downplay it,  but if you ever saw the movie 'John Q' with Denzel you would know what I mean.  Illness of a loved on, or one's self can bring out the most vile of anger at the world around us.  Is one of the stages/steps of many topics on the subject as well as of on death and dying.

Having less fear and added stress of not being able to pay for services or validate an insurance insurance card (especially in an emergency) is an engagement that drops the human compassion level which even leaves even hospital staff (doctors, nurses, admin) at a lesser level of (true or anticipated) stress. If the object of the health facility is to help or heal, how can they? How can the ill person not fall further into illness from the surrounding malevolent circumstances?

Despite the numerous values within statistics of violence, crime and the mere likelyhood of mistrust of those in authority (whether it be government, police or the medical establishment) wouldn't it make sense to have a system that values YOU as an individual and in turn the likelyhood of the repercussion from the angry, bitter and the seemingly helplessly oppressed declines solely because such person feels 'safer' and more stable in their own surroundings? Those that do not feel safe, have claws and teeth...guarenteed they will bite, scratch or even perish. Such circumstance would allow for plenty of opportunities to explode into mahem (suicide, violence, or general malaise from economic loss and burden).

Until such day as you can truly say that YOU take care and are responsible of yourself wholy and only for yourself (no cops, no doctors, no schools, no laws, no even traffic lights ) then by all means, save your cash to tuck under your own pillow and save for your future heart attack, if not, then be a compassionate person and distribute a few tax extra dollars to those less fortunate.  It all does pay off in the long run.

Phil, i find it ironic that America spends more per capita on health than anyone else. The money insurance companies dont spend, goes straight into the pockets of said companies. That doesnt make much sense to me, and frankly i would rather see extra cash helping the poor than the insurance giants. The NHS is far from perfect and myths abound of horror stories of long waits, which are the exception rather than the rule. The nonsense spouted about social healthcare is also ironic, since there is a social education system in place. I am a loss as to why people see health as less important. In my view, for a healthy and fair society, both should be equal.

...i agree.......no-one is seriously suggesting that the NHS is perfect. Such a large organisation can't be. However it does, broadly, do the job it is meant to do....and at a lower cost to society than the US model. What it doesn't do is give much of an in to corporations wanting to profit from other peoples misery......and preventing people making a profit, in whatever industry you can think of, will always be anathema to those of a certain ideology.

The French?
The French are great. Good food, wonderful art and great kissers. What you picking on the French for?
Is this just because they make better motor cars than America?
Leave the French alone.

Seriously I can see no great moral failing in any nation with a health service, I could see one in a powerful rich nation that fails to provide for its poorest most vulnerable citizens.

As for the One destroying the freedom of America....socialism is indeed his goal, but fortunately he lacks the intelligence, the competence, and the fortitude to accomplish much more than grand speechifying.

You're so bitter. I could probably name at least 25 Health systems that work better than the US system.

However, Obama from what I heard isn't going to radically change the system so you can sleep easy in your bed. There will be no Kalasinkovs on prescription of the new American national health service.

You can order fish amoxicillin and take it.  Of course I don't know if this is effective for strep throat.  I normally use fish meds on the cats, but being recently uninsured, may be reduced to taking them myself.  We have the 37th best healthcare system amongst industrialzed nations.  Why do people think this is something of which to be proud?
