Aww everhope, congrats on the visit to Florida, any chance you'll have a layover in Michigan? (wishful thinking, I know)

WinD

Everhope, if you can't get laid in Michigan, maybe stop at Dulles Airport, and you can get laid there?

For anyone that doesn’t read leet speak:

Dear slave maybe,
I never logged my hours spent having sex with partners or solo.  However, the bigger question I see is in your sig.  What's up with the lowercase s?

No, I'm not a gamer, but I'm just stunned at the use of the keyboard in that way.  (easily impressed, perhaps... or maybe I'm just easy)

Either way, I'd go cross-eyed trying to make a go of it.

getting laid is not ever the problem. having a connection now that has been elusive in my world. however, i have a strong feeling that good things would be awaiting me at Dulles, if by chance i got laid over there.

I don't think it is a big thing to give out my first name. If I write someone I will usually sign it with my first name. I don't get annoyed if someone else doesn't use their name right away. But if we have corresponded more than a few times, I would like to know their name. Of course everyone on the boards pretty much knows my name since I used to have it in my sig line. So it's not really a secret. A couple even know my last name.

I used to have my name on my profile. Now I don't use it until I have made some sort of minor connection at least. This was engendered when I received a mail addressing me by name, referred to many of my posts and seemed very familiar. It's not about manners, it's about something I can give as a small sign of trust and also use as a filter to know I really have chatted to someone before.

Briefing over this thread I realize I failed to mention why I use my first and middle name (Kalon Eric).  It’s old secret society protocol and old school gangster type stuff… In the gangster world the old Jimmy “two fingers” style nick names served a good purpose in clarifying which one of the many Jims in the underground they were talking about.  The same was true when BDSM was taboo and it would ruin your life if someone found out.  So with no last names but with a first and middle, you can tell which one of the Jims, Johns or Roberts in your group someone talking about.

... I'm well guarded with my personal info ... but if I like someone .. have traded a few CM mail messages with them ... I sign with my first name.
as MadAxeman said ...

I always sign my first name to emails, I don't offer my last name, (unless it's business or such of course). I figgure there are thousands of Alexandra's out in the world so it's not like I am giving any special info to people, beyound how I prefer to be addressed. It also saves the trouble of people destroying my user name it shreds, most people don't realize it's latin, I often get called...... uberdomina........ urggggggg it's Umbra (shadow in latin, domina being lady).

my thinking is the same as yours, UmbraDomina. a first name is not much to go on, if one was trying to do any kind of searches to find out further info on you.
i honestly think it is an oversight on a lot of people part. in a world where instant gratification  is the norm, who has time to type out a few characters on the computer. i realize that i have no rights to dictate how others conduct themselves in an online enviorment where e-mails are shared back and forth, but i certainly have a right not to respond to someone who is not mannered to my liking and/or is paranoid about sharing a simple first name.

may we all find our bliss.

i can understand your point of view, MadAxeman. i have been known to respond to a first e-mail by signing "everhope", but after that signing my first name seems the polite thing to do. when you break it down, offering your first name is the first step (granted a baby baby step) into intimacy with another. some people are just more guarded than others when it comes to intimacy.
thank you for your reply to this thread.

Dearest Sir,
not having any interaction with the gangster world, i was not aware of this practice.
up until the last few years, when my boss decided that i was to go by my first and middle name to cut down on confusion with multiple brenda's at work, i had only been called brenda lee when i was in trouble as a child.
funny, now i am rather attached to being called brendalee, it is like a special term of endearment that some have chosen to address me by in my personal life as well.

I must admit to not signing my emails w/my name until we've corresponded for awhile. I like to remain.....anonymous .

Yeah... I thought it was how people from the southern backwoods differentiated each other... you know, Bobby Ray, Bobby Joe, Bobby Lee, etc.
