everhope -> new pet peeve (11/1/2008 12:23:45 PM)

when you begin an e-mail exchange with someone, do you sign your first name in the first e-mail?

i realized today that i have no time in my life to correspond with someone who can not even sign their e-mails with their name.
i am not one who dwells in pet peeves and would even find it difficult to make a list of them, but this is an official new pet peeve of mine.
curious how others feel on this matter.

may we all find our bliss.

No, I rarely sign my emails at all.

Particularly on a site like this I don't see the need to give my real name right away.  People can address me by my handle here as well as people in person address me by any kind of nick name.

Guess I don't see why this would be an issue for you.  Not saying you're not entitled to your opinion.  I honestly would like to know why this bothers you so much.

GreedyTop -> RE: new pet peeve (11/1/2008 12:35:17 PM)

I usually don't sign my name the first email, but I will after the second or third.

Of course, it's usually because I'm too lazy to think of it..LOL

everhope -> RE: new pet peeve (11/1/2008 12:38:28 PM)

i think it has to do with simple manners. if i were to meet you in person, i would be introduced to you by your name. now out in the scene, yes that may be handle and i would address you as you introduced yourself to me.

i think it became a pet peeve today because i recieved an e-mail today from someone who i have exchanged a few emails with and first he did not address me by my name and second he asked some personal questions. i realized he had not even found me trustworthy of knowing his first name, but expected me to devulge personal things about myself.
perhaps, i am old fashioned when it comes to manners.

may we all find our bliss.

I'm with you.  Every time I've exchanged emails with someone who hasn't given his first name in the first couple of emails the person in question has turned out to be a waste of time.  I've since adopted the policy that if someone doesn't share his name by the second email, I stop corresponding.  Maybe it's draconian, but I just don't have time to spend on someone who doesn't meet my specifications.

CalifChick -> RE: new pet peeve (11/1/2008 12:50:10 PM)

I sign my emails with "Cali" when I remember (which is most of the time), but that's not my real name.  But my real name is no secret either.

Cali

sunshinemiss -> RE: new pet peeve (11/1/2008 12:50:37 PM)

Hi everhope,
I don't sign my first name on a first email but usually will by the third.  However, I have an odd spelling of my name so I actually spell it with the "normal" spelling so people know how to pronounce it.  Then a couple more later, I correctly spell my name.

Or maybe I'm just psychotic.

heh.

Daddysredhead -> RE: new pet peeve (11/1/2008 12:53:15 PM)

I don't use my first name until a few emails have been exchanged.  If the other person signs theirs, then I'm more apt to give out mine.  For me, it's just a matter of feeling comfortable enough to give out my name.  However, lots of people I've met or talked on the phone with from here still call me "Red."  Some of my nilla friends do, too.  I'm the last of 8 kids though, so I pretty much answer to anything.  [8|]

Cali is your nickname, i was not offended by you signing your e-mails with it.
and you didn't ask me my tit size ever!

xxblushesxx -> RE: new pet peeve (11/1/2008 1:01:31 PM)

I've always wondered about that too.
Like there aren't a million guys named "Rick", yanno?
And then I've met people with very unusual ethnic names who weren't afraid to tell me. (semi-famous, at that!)
Go figure.

i agree with Red.  i usually will sign just "dream" for the first few emails, too.

this is exactly what i realized today.

CalifChick -> RE: new pet peeve (11/1/2008 1:06:09 PM)

So it was a good thing that Kirk gave me his first and last name in his first email? LOL!  It's not like it was a "cold call" though, I knew him a bit here from the forums.

Cali
PS:  How big are those tits anyway?

Yeh, like that.
I usually wait until someone has given me their real name, before giving mine.   Occasionally i offer mine first, usually to persons who post on the forums, and by then we have exchanged a few mails.
But manners are nice. I rarely answer a first mail that asks personal questions, or has no salutation or signature.
