Status: offline 		I note that though many say race was not a factor the last stat. I saw shows 96% of blacks voting for Obama.

On the bright side the BBC, the UK arm of the Obama fan club is ecstatic, so that gives me a nice warm feeling.

Lets see what happens vis a vis Israel/Palestine, Iraq,Afghanistan.
The economy, out of any domestic politician's hands I think.

I fell asleep on my sofa last night and awoke to McCain's concession speech - which in my muddled, sleep-addled state i mistook for a victory speech. Imagine my relief when i found that was far from the truth.
 
I do believe that Palin cost McCain the election. Thank you Senator Palin !

Status: offline 		I cannot speak for other former Republicans, but I feel it is too late. They have allowed a complete hijack of the party by the Non-Cons, they squandered their majority in the Government, they completely went against some of the cornerstones of their own philosophy, and they showed that they cannot learn from those mistakes by offering much of the same.

I just hope the Dems handle it differently now that they have a majority and the President.

Well, I can surely understand that.

I mean, if you can't be wealthy then obviously you can't suceed (sic).

Anyone and everyone knows the only measure of success is how large your house is, what kind of car you drive, and how much money you have.

Status: offline 		Marcb, i went to bed prior to seeing your last post, I have had people ask me if that was me who have seen my pic, although similar in coloring, its not me.  And let's be clear, i never stated that avatar was me, anyone who has ever asked i have stated clearly it is an avatar, while it looks somewhat like me it is not me.   When my profile is up my picture usually shows.  I am not looking for anything right now so to me its silly to keep my profile up.  People are able to contact me if they want through the pm feature on the boards and that's sufficient for me.

Deleted portion for form sake.

As for my comments, i explained why i posted what i did to Owner59.  Take it or leave it lol i really don't care.

Yet another quote taken out of context while you ignore, or just don't understand, the point he was trying to make.

Which is that over-consumption is at the root of many of our problems. 

Though that is a seperate argument.

He is not proposing to regulate any of that.

I am very interested in how history will judge Bush. There will be no doubt that he made some mistakes but he faced some challenges that no one ever saw coming.

As for FDR... there are many that would say he was one of our greatest presidents. He must have been pretty amazing to be elected to 4 terms. Again another president who faced some real challenges that no one would have seen coming when he was first elected.


And oh yeah the stock market has a very big impact on the economy. Buying stock is what allows companies to expand. If their is confidence in the stock market and companies feel good about offering ipo's that all equates to new jobs. This is one of the reasons that the Clinton years get some much credit for a good economy. It wasn't really anything he did - it was just a great boom, driven by the new internet, in the Stock market that we all benefited from.

If someone made it impossible for you to make a hundred billion dollars a year are you saying that you would rather sleep in a dumpster than make a million dollars a year?

Status: offline 		Jax, don't you know that Clinton was entirely responsible for everything good?  It is law that you cannot speak ill of the patron saint of oral sex.  And if you think telling the truth about his "accomplishment" doesn't fall into that category you may be surprised by the backlash.  Anywhere in this country there will be hordes of people willing to defend what a great president he was even though many lost their jobs due to his opening the NAFTA door.
His true legacy?  A stained dress, lost jobs, a weaker military that caused more guard and reservists to be called to the current fighting, and a library built with Chinese funds on stolen ground. 
If history judges him as great, Bush will at least be good.  If history ever takes off its rose colored glasses and looks at who really did what, they'll see that both men sucked.  They both worked together to destroy the middle class.
