As you look at all of the results...Presidential, Senate, House of Reps. Issue Votes?

For me it was that Ted Stevens wasn't buried in his election in Alaska. The King Of Earmarks, Convicted Felon,
and yet if he didn't win(still open) he was so damn close. Maybe Alaskans like all that pork he brings to them? Perhaps the news of his conviction wasn't known throughout the state? Was his opponent that weak?
I have no clue about Alaska but, I wonder about how this could even be close?

This biggest surprise to me was the pot bill passing in Michigan....I didn't think it had a chance. I was also dissapointed in California's vote on the gay marriage. I keep hearing about how the most progressive ideas are from there, but I don't see it happening.

Note: I said I was dissapointed in Cali, but not really surprised.

The single greatest surprise for me was McCain pulling as much of the popular vote as he did, running as a Republican, after 8 yrs of GWB. While McCain isn't cut from the same cloth as GWB, he failed to convince the voters that he was sufficiently different to overcome the taint of being in the same party.

the biggest surprise of the election wasn't the results itself but the voter turn out where i live.

there were people who lived in the neighborhood for years yet voting for the very first time ...many newer and younger voters so excited about this election ...and seasoned voters like myself feeling quite confident about our choice.

I'm surprised by how close several elections and issues are still. I just did not see much "gray" this time around.

i'm amazed that proposition 2 passed in california, at the massive voter turnout, the fact that last night was pretty peaceful after all the local talk about potential rioting =p

i kinda thought that obama would lose the popular vote but win electorally, and we'd end up in another recount situation
but nope :) yay :)

cannabis is illegal simply due to that the pharmaceutical companies can not make money off of it.

1. Obama did not pick hillary.
2. the GOP did not pick Ron Paul
3. in the many months of the campaigne the real issues were not addressed nor were the debates any better then 2004.

4. the neocons did not steal the election
5. Palin was selected.

6. Ron Paul was not on the ballot on 48 states.

7. stray Obama family members keep showing up.
8. McCain does not know how many houses he owns.

9. Obama had gay sex and drugs in a limo with larry sinclair, and later the chior boy of the chruch mysteriously died.

10. Ron Paul being shut out of the GOP convention, then throwing his own convention which was more dynamic.

any finally, that people think this is the cure- when in fact the currency has doubled in the past 6 weeks which will ead to massive inflation, if not the collapse of the currency.

The United States of America, as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services applied for a patent on February 2, 2001 for " Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants" and it was granted, as patent #6630507 on October 7, 2003.

The same federal government that steadfastly denies pot has any medicinal value also holds the medical patents on the plant’s various therapeutic cannabinoids.

I'm amazed that hardly anyone in my area was at the polls. One of my coworkers was running one of the polling places and he said 25, MAYBE 30 people came in, and that was over the course of the entire day.

I was working at the polls. Very sad day.

I cannot believe that we now have a socialist in power. What are we? Canada?

A co-worker and I had a discussion yesterday...

me: Jeez I can't believe he won. Sweep in Charlotte too.
her: ya well it's time for a change
me: what is he going to do?
her: he's going to change things
me: how? by redistribution of wealth?
her: ya it's a change
me: you really expect he's going to keep through with what he said?
her: McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time
me: okay... Bush was an idiot, and McCain might be Bush-like but isn't Bush. McCain voted 90% of the time that way, but on what issues? and how did Obama vote?
her: Obama is going to change things
me: **pulls out hair and jumps in front of a MI resident trying to get a script for Weed**

maybe I'm surrounded by dumb people, but the majority of Obama supporters that I met can't even tell me if Obama is his first name or last.
Obama's campaign is based on one fact: McCain voted 90% of time with Bush, but no one that has told me that has been able to tell me how Obama voted, or what the issues were.

As for Michigan and Florida, I was disappointed in those 2 states more then anything. The Democrats (with the exception of the Banshee, I mean Hillary) turned their backs on those two states. Did they forget the primaries already?

Biggest surprise? I kept being told such and such "thinks like Oklahomans......." I kept yelling back at the TV--I do NOT! I am Not biggoted nor do I think gay people do not have the right to marriage and families--I also believe in pro-choice !! But, it didn't do any good--this is a redneck state and going to stay that way despite those of us educated and open minded people practicing in it. Bleck.

Biggest surprise?

McCain's speech. I'd seen him speak on a number of occasions and while I voted for Obama, his speech on election night was actually well said and rather touching on his part.

.....biggest surprise for me is that there are still people admiring Palin......who basically lost the election for McCain, alienated the middle ground, whose demeanour even alienated those on the right who came into contact with her and who seems to hold her ignorance proudly on her sleeve.........i heard today that one UK newspaper suggested that McCain lost because he was running against three people: Obama, GWB and Palin........

The biggest surprise to me might end up being how long the pubs whine about losing. It would still take 8 years to match the moaning about the 2000 debacle from the dems but please don't try to top that. It looks bad no matter who does it. Remember what you said to them?

I have no clue about Alaska but, I wonder about how this could even be close?

Presidential: McCain didn't stick to his own brand to appeal to centrists rather than shore up a base that was not enough to get him elected so I guess my biggest surprise is that he let himself get handled rather than handling his own campaign.

Senate races: I'll have to agree with the Stephens call but for a different reason. I watched his debate with the mayor and he made it really clear that it didn't really matter whether he was innocent or guilty because he had enough friends in the Senate that they would never allow him to get the boot should he win re-election. The man has huge balls and they're made of steel. His opponent was pretty good in the debate, but I think it may have been missed by many Alaskans. I can't imagine anyone who actually watched that debate would have voted for his arrogant ass. He stammered, stuttered, avoided etc, but he did know energy cold and I guess that's pretty much #1 up there.

My other surprise was how far Dole stooped to win re-election. I was not surprised, however, that the tactic, once employed, backfired, so congratulations to Kay Hagen for her new seat.

Not a whole lot of surprises in House races and I didn't keep as close an eye on those as I did on Senate races, so I guess I would just have to say that nasty politics was not quite as effective as usual so that was a pleasant surprise.

On issues - Two come to mind: the first was that McCain suspended his campaign to go back to Washington to help with the bailout drafting (so did that on again, off again first debate thing) ... and second that was he actually signed it. Bachmann, (MN) in my opinion got re-elected despite the very nasty politics because she didn't sign it.
