My sub has VERY reactive skin and so I sometimes draw on her lightly with a knife or even just my fingernail (on the rare ocasions I have one long enough) and the image shows up in red for hours and hours (as long as I don't do anything else to that patch of skin to make it all red [;)]). It's a fun sort of ritual that is often used to mark the beginning of a longer session. If she had the mark all the time it wouldn't have the same meaning.
