MzMia -> World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 9:22:16 PM)

I am surprised to NOT see this thread, so here it is.

Pretty much, the Whole World is cheering for President-elect Obama!
In my lifetime, I have never seen the world so happy and supportive

of any American President!
[;)]
This speaks volumes about "what the people around the world are thinking".
This is one of the biggest historic events that many of us will be a part of.
I am thrilled to have been able to vote for him and see him win the election.

Is anyone else surprised and elated at the world wide support and cheers for Obama?

I'm not surprised at all. When Himself and I were in Europe this summer, Obama getting in and Bush getting out is all anyone wanted to talk about as far as politics. [:D]

faithbunny -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 9:24:46 PM)

Surprised, no. Elated, absolutely. After 8 long years we're stepping up and showing the world who we really are. I have never been so proud to be an American.

faith!  You hit the nail on the head.
There is a vibe going on, the spirit is in the air, it is almost magical.
I have always been thankful to be an American, but I have NEVER been as proud as I am right now.

MadAxeman -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 9:28:17 PM)

The American image has been poor these last 8 years.
I know enough good Americans to know they are far better than that.
Worldwide reaction has been almost completely positive to the election result.
Hopefully, Obama can justify this improvement.
Well done you lot.
Welcome to civilisation.

Mia, that's because they all think that he's going to be cutting checks to them!
Wait 'till he takes office and says; "Sorry, no check for you, we need to replace a few hundred bridges."

Popeye, President elect Obama has inherited a nightmare.
I told my daddy last night, he probably would not have been elected unless
America was in the toilet.
But he was elected!
He is the best candidate to start to dig us out of the shit hole we are in.

He is the best man for the job!
America has to take her medicine now, but isn't it better to take your

medicine from at least someone you like and respect?

corysub -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 9:56:46 PM)

Welcome to civilisation!  World wide acclaim!  We are loved by the world!!   The world does not love America...only children being told that by their teachers really believe that to be the case.  Do your really think the people in France, Italy,Germany, Russia, China, et al give a rats ass about America??   They would be even happier if our "nothing is impossible for us" attitude that has made our country so great was crushed under the weight of government...if socialism destroyed the fabric of our capitalistic system that, until now, mostly rewarded achievment, and "success" was earned not a right or something to be "taken" from another by mandate.

So much for the feeling of bi-partisan ship in the Obamanation.  "It's our time" is the rallying call..."change" is in the air...and now one knows if the man the elected is up to the task for positive change.  Obama now has the power of the Presidency, re-inforced by a liberal controlled Pelosi/Reid Congress...no question there will be change....I only wish that the 100 million Americans who did vote their choice in 2008 will also remember that we are all part of this young experiment as a nation with all it's fragility. Over 50,000,000 people, like me, did not vote for Obama but, in truth, I have not heard the vindictive, crass, insulting language used to describe Obama as what met and is still thrown at President Bush.  I wonder how Barack would react if we used some of the languge used by Pelosi.

I also love the childlike naievite of those that hear politician say "I don't reprsent democrats or republicans, I represent Americans"!  Yea,sure...people who believe that never heard an acceptance speech by a politician.  Pardon my cynicism, but Obama has proved nothing in his lifetime other than an ability to advantage himself in position, and his strong organizational skills.  No question on this ability...but can he lead from the most powerful position in the world...will he pass when tested?  For all of our sakes, I happen to really hope he does, and not because the "world likes us".

Shekicromaster -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 11:11:58 PM)

I'd say a big part of the "Obama enthusiasm" can be attributed to the Bush administration. If he was elected for example after Clinton who had a better international rating/image it probably wouldn't be like that.

iam4her -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 11:25:11 PM)

corysub, you are correct, the world does not love America. USA foreign politics the last 60 years has coloured its reputation very dark.
But there is a difference. Even though it might take decades to change the hard-rooted foreignpolitics of Pentagon and the white house, the world has atleast a hope for Barack, that he might be the one that take the first step of healing Americas reputation.

I believe that the Amercian peoples attitude to the world have started to change the last years, and next phase is to change the system aswell

This is a test for America, and the world will be watching him very closely if he will actually change his country and its politics.

Personally I actually cried when I saw Jesse Jacksons tears, and my heart and soul  has big hopes for Barack.

So yes, CONGRATIOULATIONS DEAR PEOPLE IN THE WEST !

awmslave -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 11:29:13 PM)

It just shows World is totally screwed. We may hope Obama will change US path for better. However, he has not demonstrated any understanding what the real problems are. Candidate of change for something we still need to figure out? We just have hope  and let him prove himself for some time. Rookie challenge!

ElectraGlide -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 11:39:21 PM)

Did he win ? Been busy not sure.

Vendaval -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/5/2008 11:42:37 PM)

I knew that the international support would be huge after seeing the crowd gathered for him in Germany last summer and the responses from several of our CM posters from "across the pond".  The President of Kenya, where President-Elect Obama's father lived, declared a national holiday.

barelynangel -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/6/2008 3:30:37 AM)

A couple of my friends made a pretty interesting statement -- are the cheering FOR Obama or are they cheering that the Republicans/Bush are out of office.

Also, i think people need to acknowledge something, It took Bush a while to piss people off, so the the world has hated us for 8 years is kinda a desperate and wrong assessment.

I agree colouredin.
We ALL know bloody well, the world would not be roaring and cheering this
loud for a Senator McCain.
They are cheering for the first Black American President.[:D]

Wow, Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

corysub -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/6/2008 5:17:58 AM)

I think it is fantastic for America that people looked through the fact of the mans race and voted for him because he showed the empathy for the fears of Americans as Bill Clinton did, although Clinton also had the benefit of Ross Perot taking about 17% of the vote.

I also find it amazing the europeans are soo happy about the election of a "black President" in the United States, which I think is bullshit.
Europeans have victimized people of race for centuries, (the first slaves came to an America under English rule), and the prejudice against peoples because of their race, ethnic group or creed has littered the landscape with dead bodies fro Dachau to Bosnia, to Belfast, to Germany and to every country on the continent until today.  Don't preach to America about our morality or lack thereof Europeans.  Someone made a comment here that American foreign policy has been terrible for the past 60 years...That would include feeding Berlin, standing tall with our "allies" against the Russian horde, to keeping South Korea Free,to forcing the Iron Curtain down and freeing the Eastern Bloc,  to freeing tens of millions of Iraqi's until this morning.  What have the British, the French, the Germans, the Italians, to Spanish, the Greeks..or any one else done,..what could they have done withhout America and it love of freedom everywhere.??

And here I thought they were cheering because they thought we picked the best man to lead the country. I thought they were cheering because they think the new administration is going to bring change in the US policies. And now you say it's because he is the first black....if that was their only problem with Bush, then we coulld have painted him years ago and everyone would have been happy.

Feeling venomous much? Why don't you ask the people of these other countries, rather than make false assumptions? I can assure you that the people of my family are EXTATIC over Obama's election... yet, a large majority of them has never set foot in the USA in their life. We live in a global society, corysub: what goes on in another country affects all of us, and that's whether you like it or not.

And your guy lost the election: get over it.
