First of all, it is Baptists.  Yes, they suck. I know because I was one of them for 45 freaking years.
They basically hate women.
Their ideas of helping women is standing in front of them with a picket sign before they have an abortion.
Yes, they preach their services this way.
I had enough.
One day, my old pastor called Hillary Clinton a lesbian in the pullpit.   I waked out.   I called him.  We had a meeting.
I hated that spectrum of the church from that point on.
Now you see why I am the way I am, and I was engaged to a black male in the 80s.  My grandfather threatened to kill him, and my dad never knew about it. My ex husband never knew about it.
Now that I am out of the Baptist church, I am at peace with my small Pentecostal church where the Pastor did not mention the election one time.  I told him I appreciated that effort beyond words.

These people aren't Christians. In fact, they're the opposite of what Christ preached. They're an obscure and minuscule sect lead by an insane old man who brainwashed his entire family - but Christians? No.

As someone mentioned, they are lawyers, although fred has been disbarred both in Kansas and in the Federal courts.  I used to have to deal with them when I lived in Topeka (where the zip code starts with 666).  What they hope for is a confrontation, after which they file a lawsuit, then seek a settlement to keep their antics going.  Yes, they are an evil group, and the best thing to do is to ignore them.  They are attention whores, and if no one pays attention to them, they go away.

AND the Secret Service is all about PREVENTING incidents.

I remember an interview years ago with an extremely outspoken critic (published) in a radical sense, and when the president came through town, the Secret Service came first, nicely but firmly detaining this person for 30 minutes until the president was gone.

When this person complained about rights, the polite but adamant officer calmly said, "Look, we don't get second chances in this line of work."

The WBC wants the press coverage. That's all they're gonna get, too.

That is exactly how they function, but it's easy for me to ignore them at present: I'm not going to the funeral of a person I love with them chanting over my grief [>:] .

The SPLC is almost the worst group around. Odinists are a hate group to them. Morris Dees is the biggest asshole in the world. However I don't do funerals. They are dead and they do not care. Funerals are for the living. With any common decency a person would let the people mourn and comiserate in peace.

So in this particular case the SPLC is probably right.

And THAT my dear kit, is what I mean by not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Others say a broken clock is right twice a day, but I never really adopted that saying.

Now that I think of it I have heard of Westborough before. I don't think even the neo Nazis want them around.

You know when you come to what you think is a bunch of kooks, and they have the Constitution and whatever from which to quote, I can deal with that. But when they break out a Bible I am outta there.

I want to know in which part of the Bible it says to go fuck with people when they are burying their dead. Someone has to know. I also want to know where the Bible says a whole lot of other things as well.

Look, I don't even accept some scientific theory, even if it works, so if anyone thinks they are going to tell me what God said, they better have something better than the Bible to back it up. I mean awesome powers like Moses or Jesus or someone.

If there is a hell, I want to go there. I want to see Hitler and Dees side by side, and I want Bush there as well as Cheney. I'll take mine as long as I know they are getting their's. Fair is fair.

In our local case, they intended to protest the funeral of an Iraq veteran, because "the war was God's punishment to us all for allowing gay people and abortions."

Neither of which had anything to do with our fallen soldier, a popular lad who was wounded, sent home, got better and went back.

Although that's a very tame way of putting it. Their rhetoric is peppered with references to 'fags', 'whores', 'bastards' and other lovelies.

I have no problem with Jew whores.

Jew - Christ was not divine, this here coming will not be the second coming, it will be the first. What the governmanet of Israel does is a whole seperate issue.

whore - someone, usually a Woman who provides sexual favors to decadent sex addicts to earn a living. Did you read the word earn ? They are not stealing or anything else, they get paid for what they do, that is all.

So what's Liz's phone number ? I'll go see how good she is and get back to you on it.

Term, you're right about that, the splc did good work,....30 years ago.
Now it seems that the pendulum has swung the other way and they've become a "hate group" themselves.
Morris Dees and the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church have much in common. And they're both probably mentally ill from all that hate.
I'd like to see someone sue the splc for defamation or something.
We do have "freedom of assembly" under the Constitution.
Even vile, despicable, disgusting groups and causes can assemble peacefully.
Keeping groups like this..."at a distance" and having the "Freedom Riders" rev up their Harleys everytime they start yelling their hate is a good solution I think.
Of course I'd love to see them at an "Irish" or "Italian" funeral in Boston and have someone payoff the cops to show up 15 minutes late!

"Right guys?"
"Yeah, nobody knows nuthin'!"

I think that we make a big mistake when we assume that the actions of people who claim membership to a particular group are indicative of the thinking of the group as a whole.  My hubby used to be a Baptist, my inlaws are Baptists, and they're perfectly lovely people who despise this kind of hateful action.

PaHunk, I'm *Real Big* on free speech but having these fucking *ASSHOLES* show up at funerals is really pushing it.
Maybe if they stated in the obituary that it is "invited guests" only they could keep these pos's away.
Now, the t-shirt issue is all together different I think.

I take offense to that, actually. There are many Christians who are open-minded and caring people; on the flipside, there are also atheistic and agnostic persons who are as close-minded as you are insinuating here.

I agree that WBC is an abomination and they have no idea what the true tenets of their supposed religion are, but to lump them together with other decent, caring and good people is ignorant and a gross generalization.
