So my room is booked ,my son is on board....and now I find out, stupid asshole that I am,a ticket is needed to get anywhere near enough to actually hear the oath and the speech.Calling Congressman will commence on Monday, and in case I can't sites I have researched indicate there are plenty of areas available to watch the parade and to view the oath taking on large screen monitors. If anyone else has experience with this event or advice ,I would love to hear it.

slvemike4u -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/8/2008 11:39:31 AM)

Now I find out you need tickets.Dumb fuck that I am I assumed one could go to Washinton and arrive early enough at the mall to secure oneself a chance to witness the swearing in of President -elect Obama. Not so seems tickets are required to gain entrance to viewng areas.Has anyone actually attended a previous inauguration, any advice?....Please.

windchymes -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/8/2008 1:22:58 PM)

It's those damn Secret Service.  They're so anal about security. [8|]

slvemike4u -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/8/2008 2:50:22 PM)

First let me apologize for the repetitive post's,I had thought the first one didn't go through...rewrote it a bit and resubmitted....violla repeat post, sorry
Windchymes that was so not helpful, but might I say in researching the Inauguration there is an official government website that actually list's proscribed items one can bring into these cordoned off areas....surprise surprise...you are not allowed to attend this function armed to the teeth...they really are anal it would appear..[:)]

windchymes -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/8/2008 5:27:47 PM)

Oh, no apology necessary, mike :)

One thing I did want to mention.  On a normal weekend, DC is pretty crowded and busy.  I can't even imagine what it's going to be like this year inaugural weekend.  Absolute chaos.  You mentioned earlier about renting a car and driving a stop or two further to pick up the train....I wouldn't.  Parking garages for miles around are going to be jam-packed.  If you can take the train/Metro from your hotel in Baltimore, then I'd just take that if I were you.   I personally am just going to stay away from the city...as I normally do, lol.

I'm picturing something along the lines of Times Square on New Year's Eve....not a place I ever wanted to be, either.  I hate crowds.

slvemike4u -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/8/2008 5:35:24 PM)

Not a big fan of crowds myself ,but this time I can't resist. The chance to see this is just too compelling ,it is akin to having a ringside seat to the lunar landing...One small step for man,a huge leap for mankind...and all that.
Actually born and raised in Queens New York ,a short subway ride from Times Square, never felt the compulsion to go there on New Years Eve,what the hell it happens every year.

(fast reply)
Daughter's b/f worked for the Obama campaign and was given tickets so she is trying to decide whether to go with him or not.. It sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity.

slvemike4u -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/9/2008 3:58:11 PM)

Just trying to keep the thread alive....hoping someone steps up and decides having a sub/slave around for the weekend prior to the inauguration might be useful(already have my accomodations for the event worked out, don't have a place to stay for the w/e though)....begging is unseemly, but so is what I am willing to do for lodging.....Lol

GreedyTop -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/9/2008 5:12:49 PM)

geez, mike.. makes me wish I lived in the area ;)

slvemike4u -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/9/2008 5:15:01 PM)

Well GT i am sure we could work something out, after all distance is nothing if not relative.

GreedyTop -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/9/2008 5:16:49 PM)

Tampa to DC is a bitch of a commute, mike...LOL

slvemike4u -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/9/2008 5:31:41 PM)

Some experiences are worth the trouble, what I have seen of you on these post's tell me this would be one of those times.....LOL

justgemmie -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/9/2008 7:17:23 PM)

hi mike :)

sorry i haven't been around, but i spend weekends with Dauntless so i'm not on line from friday nite thru sunday nite.  i have never attended an inauguration so i have no clue about tickets.  truth is, i wasn't really planning on attending the inauguration itself, just hoping to meet folks afterwards.  i'll ask around for you, but i don't know how much that will help.

we still have a couple months, so i'm hoping more folks will be able to come to town.

gemmie

I went to Reagan's Innauguration in DC w/my sister & a couple of other folks & we didn't know you needed tickets & we were just standing around looking lost. Someone actually came up to us & GAVE us 4 tickets & they were GREAT seats too!
I was 18 then & we took my Mom's car to the subway station & when we got in it to go home while we were waiting in line to pay to get out of the parking lot the car in front of me backed right into Mom's car. I was so young/naive I agreed since there was no damage no use reporting it. I memorized his license plate JUST IN CASE & to this day I remember it....DFG 452!

slvemike4u -> RE: Anyone coming to DC for the Inauguration? (11/10/2008 11:43:31 AM)

Well VirginPotty the people I have talked to at various Congressional offices have assured me tat lack of a ticket is in truth no reason to stay away .There will be many areas of the Mall for non-ticket holders and multiple jumbo-trons for viewing....All aides who took my name and number went to great pains to impress upon me the numbers of requests their office's have allready recieved.
CNN is doing a story on Ticket Brokers who are trying to sell these "free Tickets" Congressional Aides are being warned it is a breach of ethics to sell these tickets to brokers.I would not buy one of these free tickets on pain of death.Principal alone would preclude me from giving these bastards a dime of my money.....to see my President take the oath of office, how dare they.
