I read the beauty series and a lot of it was just whank off fantasy. Like when they were tied upside down for hours in the sultains garden and mens genitals were whacked.

Do that in real life and see just how quickly you will get a rep for damaging your partners and become a pirah.

The idea of a slave town was kind of neat where like naughty s*laves were sent when they got sent away from high court, but again not practical.

Anne Rice sucks at writing erotica, I almost gave up on te book 5 pages in cause her writing was so lame, She made homeopathic stew made out of the shadow of a starved pidgion look good lol.

she had to reach very hard to write erotica I felt, it was contrived and lots of thin weak spots.

The Story of O is good, as long as you remember it's a story. You can take the Sleeping Beauty series and sink them in the deepest seas; they have nothing to do with real life BDSM and/or D/s. If you want a good book, try The Punishment of Ann.

I've read them both.

I liked the first book of the Beauty series, but it soon got boring, and the other two books were mainly just more repetition of the first.

Story of O was a bit more interesting.

The Marketplace series has been my favorite so far. I have read the first three books, and intend to read the others.

I enjoyed both 'O' and the Beauty series when I first read them, but that's been years ago, and I don't doubt that I'd feel different about them now. Anne Rice in particular--she's so pretentious that it makes it hard for me to read anything *else* she's done; it's like her attitude seeps over into her writing. I do remember reading the Beauty trilogy and saying, my God, surely you can't actually *do* that to a person, to myself quite a bit.

The Marketplace books are just lovely. I'd also highly recommend John Preston's I Once Had a Master; I'd comment on Mr. Benson but haven't finished it yet.

I have read both. I liked the story of O. But wasn't really crazy about the make believe style of the Beauty series. ~Ophelia

I read both years ago, and really hope that anyone that the scenarios discussed are NOT what is normal in D/s relationships. I do have to admit a certain love for some 'aspects' of the Beauty Trilogy that I have adapted into scenes over the years. I would also have to admit that if I ever open my own dungeon, there would DEFINITELY be a race track!!! While I've never been a huge fan of pony play (not an area of interest for me), I do love the idea of the high kneel foot races and ricksaw races.

Slaves serving as art and the infamous rose game are two of my favorite portions to act out with subbies (of course all have twists)!!!!

Now back to a responsible answer............ while some things in the books could be great fun in controlled circumstances, quite a few of the ideas discussed in the publications in question are not safe, sane, or consentual.

FYI.......... the Marquis de Sade books fall under the same category as do Amanda Ware's 'Bound' books (Bound to Obey, Bound to Serve, and Bound to Obey).

While I do enjoy reading some of the extreme books to get play ideas, I do keep safety and reality in mind. I would hope anyone else that enjoys 'researching' for ideas from extreme sources would do the same.

i remember back in my twenties and went to a flea market. i saw some books called sleeping beauty and thought i would get the whole set. when i got home and started to read the first one i was just a little surprised. lol. this was before i even knew of this lifestyle. but being a good girl i read them anyways.

i guess even back then i was a little naughty

i liked them, the story of o i havent read but will get around to it one of these days.

Yes, I have read the Sleeping Beauty trilogy of books and have both read the book, "The Story of O" and seen the movie.

Sadly, most BDSM fiction and movies are sadly lacking in taste and depth. However, I believe these to be the exception to that rather than the rule, but I am sure there are many who will disagree.

I loved O when I was younger and adored it. As someone with more RL experience under my belt, it'd probably bore me now.

I have attempted to read Beauty several times, and found the writing style so insufferable I couldn't get past a couple pages.

I agree to all thats been posted about both these books. (Except throwing them into the ocean. No book should be distoryed!) I have read both and own The Beauty Series. I like Anne Rice's work even though she can be a hard read sometimes. Another book along this line is Exit to Eden by Anne Rice. DO NOT judge this book by the movie of the same name. (It is horrible!) It is an interesting look at both sides I think.
What can I say, I love to read!

Yes, I have read them both. The Beauty series is quite lovely actually and was an introduction into the world of BDSM for me. It let's your mind fantasize and takes you away from the realities of the world for a while. It instills a longing into your soul. I highly suggest reading it.
