Reminds me of Lincoln's answer when people complained Grant was a drunk:

"If it will help him win the war, I will personally buy him a case of the finest Kentucky whiskey."

I remember that as being "find out what brand he drinks, and send a case to all my other generals." (paraphrasing from memory)

add:  Celt beat me to it, but at least I know I'm not crazy

WOW...You really are old.

And wasn't Clinton a cigar smoker?  I'm pretty sure those have nicotine too...

From what I recall, he mostly chewed them unlit, particularly on the golf course.

Side note: nicotine per se is not harmful--it's addictive.  It's all the other stuff in cigarettes that are carcinogens.  The nicotine in them cancer sticks just gets you hooked.

MissSCD -> RE: Obama is a nicotine addict... (11/6/2008 8:39:02 PM)

President Obama said he had problems with nicotene as many of us do.  They do not allow smoking in government offices.  He will adjust.

Cannot wait.   Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside when I think about him taking the chains from the dictator.

If he's going to be smoking the cigars, I wonder what he'll use on the interns?  [8|]

Why not the cigar he's smoking? Heck, for all we know, he's a regular reader here on this site.

if the white house is non-smoking is our president going to have to step outside for a quickie?

Why not??  Clinton had his quickies in the house didn't he??

Yes, someone beat me to the Cliton joke... DAMN YOU ALL!!!  HAHAHA!!  I usually stay clear of the political stuff (Since I tend to be Too open with my opinions), But I HAD to say something to that! lol

Speaking of crazy: "Grant stood by me when I was crazy and I stood by him when he was drunk. And now we stand by each other always." -- Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman

I don't actually give a damn if Obama smokes or not but I did learn a new quote about Grant and, in googling it, found this page: http://www.clangrant-us.org/ulysses_s_grant.htm

So I'm happy. [:)]

Been a long time since we had a cigarette smoker for a Presidential or VP nominee.  I cannot recall one since FDR with his famous cigarette holder.

Impeach! Impeach!

Mind you its a long time since you had a statesman for a Presidential or VP nominee. Seems Virginia is the key in more than one way.

'' Obama is a nicotine addict ''

So what, if he finds nicotine, which is legal keeps his mind on the job in hand ,go for it.

Despite what people are making Obama up to be, he is at the end of the day, only human, not some super human god figure.

As being only human, he is susceptible to the very same things the rest of us are, give him a break.

Dnomyar -> RE: Obama is a nicotine addict... (11/7/2008 4:29:32 AM)

I wonder if Clinton dipped his cigars in Hillary. Probably where he got the habit from. Who would have thought he was one of us kinksters.

MadAxeman -> RE: Obama is a nicotine addict... (11/7/2008 4:29:39 AM)

I hope he isn't susceptible to all the things I see on CM

Sigmund Frued said that,"A cigar is sometimes just a cigar." But Monika can tell you,"Sometimes a cigar is WAY MORE than just a cigar."

MadAxeman -> RE: Obama is a nicotine addict... (11/7/2008 5:05:04 AM)

Did she inhale though?
Maybe Clinton could have secondary thrush

Aneirin -> RE: Obama is a nicotine addict... (11/7/2008 5:09:22 AM)

I think people should just concentrate on a President's ability to run the country, what he does in his private life, is his own business. If he does something unlawful, then as others have said, he is not above the law, he will be found out, as I suspect there are many axe grinders and smiling knives around any leader.

Look at yourself, can you honestly think that if you were in a president's position, you would be whiter than white, could you be, is that possible given the pressure you would be under.

Interesting thing I read recently, men who are in absolute positions of power, find submission to another in their private lives actually beneficial to their professional lives, if a president in the privacy of his own private life does that, then more power to him and it is no one else's business.
