Musicmystery -> A few kind words for President Bush (11/7/2008 10:30:37 AM)

President-Elect Obama ran a disciplined, focused, well-organized and well-resourced campaign, both in the primary and the general election. He's already demonstrating the same this week with his transition team, working on White House staff, defense, and the economy.

But I want to credit President Bush, who promised "unprecedented cooperation" in the transition, and by all accounts, has been absolutely true to his word, from office space in the Treasury ready, to invitations to join in world conferences, to opening the door to implementing new economic ideas, to making unquestionably clear that a new president has been elected and he will support him fully.

I'm impressed.

I've never thought he was anything but sincere, I also think he is a patriot and believes he was doing what was best for America…He is just incompetent.

I'm not.

Bush and his cronies continue to busily push through regulation changes bad for the environment, working conditions, human rights and the economy. Putting an absolute stop to that is the absolute minimum before I would consider him to be cooperating with teh peaceful transition of power.

Furthermore he should state that no past or present member of his administration will receive pardons from him.

BitaTruble -> RE: A few kind words for President Bush (11/7/2008 10:38:54 AM)

The show is good, what's going on behind the scenes, not so much.

So they're not going to pry off the 'O' keys from the keyboards then? [:D]

I understand that some of the same people that Clinton used for his transition out of the White House Obama is using to move in...There may be a little traditional hanky panky as well as a little revenge.

I don't know.

Ever had a job you really hated and you couldn't wait to train the new guy so he could do the work while you coasted out your 2-week notice?

Tim -

President Bush was less than a year in office, and many positions in his administration were still unfilled at the time of the 9/11 tragedy.  This is apparently what prompted him to push for changes in how transition was accomplished.  One of those changes was the fast tracking of security clearance checks for President-elect Obama's staff.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a Bush fan.  In this, however, he is indeed doing his best for the nation.  The last thing we need right now, with so many issues of paramount importance facing the nation and the incoming administration, is time wasted after the inauguration on tat which can - and should - be accomplished before.  I, too, am impressed.

Regards-
Grace

So if I'm understanding this, you're implying that his inability to put his own house in order after 8 1/2 months in office was somehow the result of bureaucratic red tape and not really his fault.

And, again if I'm understanding correctly, your 9/11 reference was meant to imply that this inability to staff key positions (which of course was not in any way Bush's fault) excused his failure to react to clear warnings of a terrorist attack.

Good thing you're not a Bush fan.

MadAxeman -> RE: A few kind words for President Bush (11/7/2008 12:08:20 PM)

Bush has had the air of someone who has accepted that his legacy is beyond repair for some time.
Perhaps he is genuinely being selfless.
I'm sure he loves his country.

JustDarkness -> RE: A few kind words for President Bush (11/7/2008 12:09:42 PM)

Isn't Bush just damn happy to give away all the shit to some one else?
I would cooperate also then..lol

Oh great! Thank you. Now I am hearing that bloody song, over and over, in my head. And over, and over, and over........

It isn't unusual for any president to take a full year to staff all positions.  Expediting the security clearance process, so that a good deal of the paperwork can be done before the inauguration is a good idea, whose time has more than come.  Frankly, I'm appalled that it hasn't been policy before now....but then, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The bitterness you display is on a par with what I've come to expect from the far left and far right.

I was also impressed that President-Elect Obama stressed at his press conference today---he said it twice--that America has one President, and until Jan. 20, that President is Bush.

You're damn right I'm bitter.

And it has nothing to do with my political leanings.

This man is a fool who has single-handedly brought this country to ruin in every conceivable area from the economy to the national debt to the degradation of the Constitution to the loss of respect from the rest of the world.

I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and listen to revisionist history being formulated before my eyes and even before the fool is finally out of office.

I noticed that as well, however, I had a different take on it. My take was that Obama was clearly pointing out that the current issues belong to the current administration, that they happened on someone elses watch.

As for the graciousness of GWB I think we need to reserve judgment on that until the torch has been passed. I've already been reading in alternative press some things that indicate any graciousness is but mere illusion.
